Crisis in the Middle East
The world’s latest crisis, we believe, needs an unusual response from Share International.
The world is deeply troubled by the excesses of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Any lasting peaceful solution can only be based on justice for all. The current conflagration must be seen in the context of sustained injustice and oppression of the Palestinian people — decade after decade since at least 1948.
We realize that our contribution to this complex issue is limited. Benjamin Creme remarked in a number of his books and in this magazine that, while a solution and reconciliation must be aimed at, “it will take Maitreya Himself to bring this reconciliation about”.
The following three articles by Benjamin Creme’s Master refer to the events and tensions of earlier periods, but they also provide an insight into how the international community’s failure, thus far, to find a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian problem has played into today’s horrific situation. Sharing and justice are key in this and other conflicts.
Many times before have I spoken of the need for action to realize men’s plans and dreams of a better life for all. As Maitreya has said: “Nothing happens by itself; man must act to implement his will.”* With this in mind, let us look to the problems which most demand attention, and seek to throw some light on their solution.
The major problem awaiting resolution is that of achieving just and lasting peace. Without peace, today, there would be no future for the race. The nations, even now, are edging slowly towards this goal, but certain basic requirements must be met before real peace can be assured.
Firstly, true peace depends on trust which arises only when the Law of Justice is fulfilled. The great and widening gap between the lifestyles of the rich and poor, nationally and between the nations, is, today, the greatest block to the achievement of peace. Divergent ideologies play their divisive part but this factor is diminishing in potency. More important, by far, is the ingrained complacency and greed of the developed world.
Peace results from balance, whose absence guarantees conflict and war. The achievement of balance requires the recognition that all are interdependent, peoples and nations, and that the needs of all can be met by just sharing. Until that realization dawns and is followed by action we shall know an unstable world. While half the world goes hungry and millions yearly starve true peace remains a dream.
The present crisis in the Middle East has brought home to the industrial giants the folly of selling arms to emerging nations. Iraq is but one of many countries whose ambitions have been fostered by this cynical trade. The factories of the West cannot be allowed to prosper in maintaining the regimes of tyrants and reactionaries around the world.
Events in the Persian Gulf have at last focused the need for an integrated solution to the problems of that region. No resolution of the present situation is possible without an Arab-Israeli accord, and an end to the bitter enmity which has festered there since the founding of the State of Israel. The Palestinian people must, and will, have their homeland. Nothing less will satisfy the legitimate aspirations of that long-suffering group, and nothing less will bring an end to the recurrent crises which have maintained tension, and thus threatened world peace, for so long.
Events are moving fast. If the leaders grasp this present opportunity and, with wisdom, take the longer view and withhold their military hand, the world could see emerging the end of hostility and war, a just redistribution of resources, and a new and saner relationship between the nations.
For this Maitreya has worked long and hard, counselling the main protagonists in the various crises as they have arisen, seeking to endow them with His insight and breadth of view. Their gradual response to His endeavours allows Him the sooner to come openly before the world. (*Message from Maitreya No. 31)

Recent events in the Middle East have focused world attention on that troubled area in a new way. Gone are the assumptions that, if left alone, the many problems there will sort themselves out or go away; that conflict and division are endemic and, if contained, of no great account, and that nothing can be done for this historically and strategically important part of the world.
The nature and technical advances of modern warfare have changed such thinking and are leading to a reappraisal of the role that the United Nations might play in that theatre. For the first time, the possibility of a nuclear-free zone for the Middle East is receiving serious attention. Also, for the first time, a final and fair solution to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is seen in many quarters to be of paramount importance, while a new urgency can be heard in the voices of those demanding democratic reforms.
Herein lies the challenge and the opportunity for the community of nations to address these many problems with energy and wisdom. Gone are the days when laissez-faire will suffice to keep under control the many warring factions and interests which struggle for supremacy. The international community must accept responsibility for maintaining peace and prosperity in the region, must use its new-found authority to bring to the negotiating table the representatives of the various peoples, and must guarantee the implementation of the compromise agreements which would follow serious negotiations.
Only thus will fair and lasting solutions be found and true peace restored. The time is ripe for such action. The time has come to lift for ever the dark clouds which, for many years, have menaced world peace and which, today, literally darken the sun.
To reach such agreements and implement such action will not be easy; no simple solutions stand ready to hand. Much will depend on the readiness of the various contenders to look with realism at the future prospects of the region without far-reaching changes of approach. A stark and bitter future, indeed, would follow their refusal to address the problems with wisdom and goodwill.
The time is not far off when wiser minds than those now grappling with the situation may offer Their advice. The long-withheld hand of Hierarchy may soon be extended openly in aid. With this in mind, we may look more hopefully to the future of this long-suffering portion of the world and see a new light scatter the dark clouds of hatred and war.
In recent weeks, the Master Jesus has appeared in vision to the soldiers of both warring sides, each claiming His appearance as a blessing on their cause. Soon, Maitreya Himself will appear to many and proffer His assistance. His guidance, if followed, will lead the world back to sanity and safety, and open the way for the demonstration, in the Middle East, of the rightful brotherhood of those now divided and estranged.

It is frequently the case that, in acting for what is seen by them as the good of the world, countries wreak havoc on a world scale. So dense are the fogs of glamour which surround their actions, so illusory is their thinking, that great harm may be done, and much pain and suffering caused, for the best of reasons.
Thus it is today. In recent times, the USA, under the banner of ‘the war against terrorism’, has invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, causing thousands of civilian deaths and great physical damage to their infrastructures. The Taliban, fanatical and rigid but, in the main, uninvolved in terrorism, are dispersed but are now regrouping, training in the skills of terror. In Iraq, Saddam Hussein is no more, but a terrible legacy of deprivation and suffering, lawlessness and chaos, has replaced his baleful regime.
Now the attention of the US administration has turned to Syria, Iran and North Korea; they are warned to change or face the wrath and might of the upholders of ‘peace’, and the champions of ‘liberty’ in the world.
Thus does America plunge the world into the atmosphere of stress and fear, and thus do these give fruit to epidemics and natural disasters, which, in turn, serve to increase the fear and stress.
What can be done to stabilize this dangerous situation? How can the nations keep America in check? By what means can ordinary people bring their weight to bear? These are large questions and have, indeed, no simple answers. They require wisdom of an exceptional order and a co-ordinated approach.
Firstly, the world must realize the true nature of the problem: the USA today is led by men responsive to a nefarious energy which prompts their actions and puts peace in jeopardy. It stimulates their glamour for power of an international extent, and threatens the peace of the world. It has outposts in Israel and Eastern Europe, Israel being the major focus. This destructive energy derives, though in diminished potency, from that which plunged the world into chaotic war during the twentieth century and which, men thought, was safely put to rest.
It can be seen, therefore, how necessary it is that there be peace in the Middle East; how necessary it is that the Palestinians have true justice and a viable homeland. This is the most important problem facing men today. Failure to solve it would be disastrous for the world.
It will take the combined resources of wisdom and will of both Hierarchy and men to overcome, finally, this malignant force. A clear understanding by men of the true nature of the threat is thus imperative. Men must organize and act in unison. They must call for an end of oppression of the Palestinian people and so end the fear which haunts the people of Israel. The United Nations must bring all possible pressure to bear on both America and Israel, standing up to the superpower and aid the cause of peace. The peoples of the world are already on the march. They must raise their voices and demand that peace be theirs. They are the inheritors of the future and must fashion it in peace.
We, the Masters, your Elder Brothers, will do Our part but We are hampered by your lack of understanding and will. Hence these words.
Act without fear. Be wise and diligent in your actions and all will be well.

These articles are by a senior member of the Hierarchy of Masters of Wisdom. His name, well-known in esoteric circles, is not yet being revealed. Benjamin Creme, a principal spokesman about the emergence of Maitreya, was in constant telepathic contact with this Master who dictated his articles to him.
The global community knows that the latest horrific development in world events is a major test — a challenge to our humanity, to our ability to rise above sectarianism, to embrace all and, in doing so, to ‘keep our eyes on the prize that is humanity’.
The facts must be faced and the truth acknowledged. In such appalling circumstances the challenge is to establish the facts; in the welter of headlines and rumours, words like ‘genocide’, ‘ethnic cleansing’, ‘war crimes’, ‘apartheid’ proliferate. Looking to the future and to help ease the bitter aftermath of apartheid in South Africa, Maitreya inspired the establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. There truth and the culpability had to be faced, however painful.
We are required to choose: certainly not to choose sides but to choose for Justice, for Life and Brotherhood, forgiveness and the relinquishing of any longing for revenge. Every thought, impulse and action counts now more than ever; our collective future depends on our choice. Fed by propaganda, and manipulated by those who stand to gain financially and in terms of power, division and hatred have flourished; nationalism, extremism, and fascism — both political and financial — have spawned notions of separation, us versus them. Such attitudes must be abandoned as having no place in a world in which we know ourselves to be one humanity on one planet. Presidents and Prime Ministers appear blind and ignorant; their territorial self-interest and political power games only add to the conflagration, which they may not be able to contain. All efforts must be made to avoid drawing more countries into this most dangerous situation. We are confronted by a momentous choice.
Man’s momentous choice
“There comes a time in the history of men, nations and races when they must reorient themselves to the reality of the life in which they have their being, and seek to understand the purpose of their existence and the means by which that purpose may better be fulfilled. …“Soon, men everywhere will be called upon to weigh heavily the consequence of their actions. “Very soon, now, Maitreya will present the nations with a momentous choice: to continue in the present fearful, self-destructive mode and perish, one and all; or to follow Him into a simpler, saner, safer way of living which will guarantee a happier future for all the peoples of Earth and link man once again to his destiny as an evolving son of God.”

The events of 9/11 seem to have had an extraordinary psychological impact on the people of America, and this has been worked up, magnified out of all proportion, by the present administration. So you have not been allowed to forget it, just as the Israelis make the Holocaust — an unbelievably terrible happening — something which humanity must on no account ever forget. They have raised it as a great symbol of their pain and suffering, allowing them any excess in relation to the Palestinians.
Jewish people everywhere — rightly, because of what happened to so many Jewish people before Israel was created — have lived daily in the remembrance of that event when 6 million Jews died in the death camps of Germany. But so did millions of other people: Gypsies, Poles, Hungarians, Romanians and Russians died in the same way, in the same places. We do not hear these laments from the Russians or the Poles or the Gypsies, from the people of Romania or any of the Eastern European countries.
I am not trying to diminish the importance or the horror of the death camps, but humanity cannot go on forever holding them up as an illustration of how horrible humanity can be to itself. That, I think, is a profound mistake on the part of the Jewish people and the Israeli Government in particular, so that the world will never see their experience as other than through the eyes of their own self-pity. It prevents them from seeing the reality of their own intolerance and intransigence in relation to the people of Palestine. Of all the people in the world who have suffered, suffered over centuries, the Jewish people probably win the prize; but in Palestine it does not seem to count for anything. The Holocaust is used by Israel, even unconsciously, to justify the oppression of the Palestinians in a way which is heartless and has profound danger for the world as a whole. …
There can never be a war against terrorism, which is worldwide, not a state or country. It is a fantasy, but it gives the US Government the right to make war on whichever country they feel is aiding and abetting terrorist activity.
They are aiding and abetting terrorist activity themselves. They support Israel to the tune of £3 billion a year just for armaments, so that the Israeli army is the most powerful in the area, and one of the most powerful in the whole world. …
The West Bank belonged, until the pre-emptive attack by Israel in 1967, to the King of Jordan. Maitreya asked King Hussein of Jordan (at the Conference which Maitreya held in April 1990 in London) if he would give up sovereignty of the West Bank for it to become a homeland for the Palestinian people. The good King of Jordan, now dead, agreed to the proposal, and so the West Bank became the possible homeland, with the Gaza Strip, for the Palestinians.
Since then it has been whittled away by the building of settlements by the Israelis over much of the West Bank. They are huge conglomerations of buildings with walls and a little army round them to keep them secure, and roads built throughout the West Bank connecting them. These divide up the West Bank, until what is offered the Palestinian people is about 40 per cent of the original land. That is the reality, and that is why Maitreya advised Mr Arafat (the late Yasser Arafat was Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization, PLO, and President of the Palestinian National Authority) not to sign the agreement.
That was the best proposal that there has been. The building of settlements has gone on and on. They have completely decimated the West Bank, cutting off the Palestinians from their land, their orchards, making it impossible for them to earn a living. Now they are building the wall. That is done coldly, professionally, in response to what they call the terrorism of the people of Palestine who are using the only methods they have to get any redress, or a semblance of the freedom which Israel wants for itself.
The early Israelis taught the Palestinians about terrorism. Israel was formed by terrorism. There were a number of gangs, like the Stern gang and the Irgun Zeva’I Le’umi. They fought as terrorists against the British and the Palestinians, and ‘won’ the area we know as Israel. They fought and wrestled for that land just as the Palestinian people are fighting to hold onto the little bit of land that they could call home. It is so unfair, and it has the weight of the American Government and the strength of the American dollar and army behind it. There will never be peace in the world while that situation pertains. If there is no peace in Palestine, there will be no peace in the world as a whole.

[Share International, March 2009] A demonstration in aid of the Palestinians in Gaza was held on 24 January 2009 in London. Protestors gathered outside the BBC who had refused to broadcast an appeal from the Disasters Emergency Committee for Gaza.
I was carrying a banner with a co-worker in a packed crowd of marchers when suddenly I noticed a young child with blond curls, laughing merrily, running and jumping in and out of the demonstrators. The mother, tall, young and fair-skinned, with dreadlocks down to her hips, followed a little later, smiling happily. My spirits lifted and I laughed. They disappeared among the crowd. I looked out for them and saw the young woman holding the child in her arms. She was standing on the broad pavement, balancing a large, pink, heart-shaped banner. It had bold white letters which read: ‘LOVE IS ACTION’. On the back was written: ‘CHANGE CAN ONLY HAPPEN IF YOU ACT’. The demonstrators swept on, taking me with them. I didn’t see them or the banner again.
Would you kindly confirm if they were really Masters?
[Share International, March 2009] Something strange happened to me on the night of 8 February 2009. I was very sceptical about the information of the star sign and began wondering if it wasn’t all just an illusion. I began to think what would happen to the world if Maitreya wasn’t here. It would probably mean the destruction of the entire human race and the planet. I was very sad and depressed and went to my bathroom to take a shower. I turned on the shower and, when the steam began to fill the bathroom, I noticed that there was a handprint on the bathroom mirror. It resembled the ‘Hand’ of Maitreya. I hadn’t touched the mirror before, so I was very shocked, but the sight of the handprint recovered my strength, my hopes and I was filled with joy, calm and hope again.
Was this manifested by Maitreya?
[Share International, April 2009] On 15 February 2009, a handprint appeared on the window of my parents’ bathroom. I asked them about it and they said they had not made it. Was this a sign from Maitreya? If so, it’s the second handprint made this month. What is its purpose? I’m feeling a little tired and depressed these days, is it related to that?
We present here phenomena which, to the editors, are “signs of hope” and “signs of the time”, but which have not been confirmed by Benjamin Creme’s Master.
We present them for your consideration only, since we cannot now make use of the confirmation and additional information which in the past was always provided by BC’s Master.
According to Benjamin Creme, the UFOs and the people in them are engaged on a spiritual mission to ease humanity’s lot and to save this planet from further and faster destruction. Our own planetary Hierarchy, led by Maitreya, the World Teacher, now living among us, works tirelessly with their Space Brothers in a fraternal enterprise to restore sanity to this Earth.
USA — A photo taken by B.A. near Rowlett, Texas in 2021, shows a winged figure and a UFO-shaped object above the sun. The photo resembles many photos published in Share International, which were taken by NASA’s SOHO observatory showing huge winged figures or UFO spacecraft near the sun. Many of the winged figures were confirmed by Benjamin Creme’s Master to be gigantic angels or Devas.

Artificial Intelligence, or AI, seems to be everywhere in the media today, with writers passionately debating its pros and cons — and the technology doesn’t show any signs of going away. Because it’s likely to be a topic of controversy for the indefinite future, and because its widespread application could change the fabric of our society, getting a handle on the main issues seems prudent. …
The Good
Like the personal computer, AI has many practical uses. It can lighten workloads, shorten the time necessary to accomplish tasks, and enhance productivity. For example, AI/MLA can radically cut the time spent by doctors documenting patient visits and can summarize those visits as well, translating medical terminology into language patients can understand. It can also analyze X-rays to help with medical diagnoses. …
To address the climate crisis, AI algorithms are already being used to prevent methane leakage from gas pipelines, improve battery storage technologies, make freight and transport more efficient, plant forests using drones, and reduce energy use in buildings, among many other tasks. They could ultimately be used to help accelerate the development of nuclear fusion, to detect changes in permafrost, and even to draw greenhouse gases directly from the air.
The Bad
There are downsides to some AI applications, however — especially for those entailing human selection processes. Many of these problems are due to biased data used to train the AI model. In the medical system, for instance, AI algorithms are playing a role in decisions concerning distribution of organs and other elements of healthcare, and biases here can have literal life-and-death consequences. …
The additional problem of AI creating falsehoods — euphemistically called ‘hallucinations’ — in response to queries precludes its use in critical applications such as legal research, needless to say. A related issue is its ability to create ‘deepfakes’, or artificially created images and/or audio, which can have devastating effects on the lives of targeted individuals. Misinformation is easy to create and circulate (some say it’s like social media on steroids), and applications like facial recognition have proved to be inaccurate enough that wrongful arrests could be commonplace – and again, difficult to disprove.
On a global scale, AI algorithms could be used by terrorists to create advanced malware or biological weapons, with dire consequences for society.
The Ugly
The next iteration of AI currently being debated is Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). It doesn’t exist yet, but OpenAI’s GPT-4 (by Microsoft) is described as having “sparks of advanced general intelligence”, so it is a precursor. Here’s where the controversy about further development of AI becomes intense.
Once AI can improve itself and becomes superintelligent (that is, able to surpass humans) we are in unknown territory. …
Speaking of other scientific experiments in which scientists were manipulating the mechanism of evolutionary forces (bio-genetic engineering), Benjamin Creme says Maitreya issued a warning that for scientists to use their knowledge to “play God” is dangerous: “You are able to do certain things,” he says, “but you should not do them.” Surely the same warning could and should apply to AGI.
The imprisoned Iranian human rights defender Narges Mohammadi has been awarded the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize for her fight against women’s oppression in Iran and promoting human rights and “freedom for all”, the Norwegian Nobel Committee said on 6 October.
Berit Reiss-Andersen, head of the Committee, commenced her announcement with three words in Farsi: “Zan — Zendegi — Azadi”, and their translation: “Woman — Life — Freedom”, which form the central slogan of the recent uprising. She added that this year’s prize also honors “the hundreds of thousands of people who have demonstrated against the theocratic regime’s policies of discrimination and oppression targeting women” and “the very important work of a whole movement in Iran”.
Mohammadi was selected out of a list of over 350 nominations, the 19th woman to win the Prize in its 122 year history and the second Iranian woman after the 2003 laureate, Shirin Ebadi, her colleague and mentor. Narges Mohammadi is an outspoken and tireless advocate for human rights, freedom and democracy in Iran, who has steadfastly refused to leave the country or stay silent. …
Having been repeatedly imprisoned for her activities over the last decade, Mohammadi is currently serving a 10-year sentence in Tehran’s Evin prison, infamous for its incarceration and torture of political prisoners, charged with “spreading anti-state propaganda” and acting against “national security”. …
Following the Nobel announcement, Mohammadi released this statement: “The global support and recognition of my human rights advocacy makes me more resolved, more responsible, more passionate and more hopeful.” In a written statement to The New York Times, she said, “I will continue to fight against the relentless discrimination, tyranny and gender-based oppression by this oppressive religious government until the liberation of all women”, and emphasized that she “will never stop striving for the realization of democracy, freedom, and equality.”
