From the inception of Share International magazine, Benjamin Creme’s Master provided an article every month for nearly 35 years. These were intended to be published not only at the time they were written, but also whenever appropriate according to world circumstances.
Much has been written about life in the future; much fictional writing is devoted to a description, imaginatively conceived, of the life ahead for humanity. Almost without exception, these writings describe a life and environment dominated by technology and scientifically organized systems. A chilling, mechanistic view of the future is held before the reader who could be forgiven for preferring the present, with all its uncertainties and dangers, to such an inhospitable prospect.
However, the future need not be so bleak and barren of human warmth as that presented by writers of fiction. That science and technology will flourish, there is no doubt; we are entering an age in which the mysteries of life will be revealed and the energies of the universe will be controlled, through the discoveries of science. Our technology, too, will become ever more sophisticated as it adapts to the challenges posed by these discoveries. We must ensure that a proper balance is maintained, and that the achievements and resources of science are channelled along lines that serve, rather than are served by, mankind.
We will help you to do this. Ours will be the task to oversee the development of the new society along paths that preserve correct balance, and naught that infringes human need will receive Our recommendation. Beauty and a sense of fittingness will be the touchstone. All that is ugly, mechanical and harmful to the human spirit will be eschewed. The aim will be to maintain, in full freedom and harmony, a right relationship between man and his environment; to ensure that every technological and scientific advance is seen as serving better man’s needs and knowing better the nature of Reality.
In this way, you may be sure, the needed safeguards will be built into the new structures. All that pertains to the enhancement of life and the beautifying of its forms will know Our blessing; every manifestation which serves the commonweal will gain Our support.
The time is coming when man will develop a new relation to his environment. In keeping with his sense that man, nature and God are One, he will build forms which allow him to manifest that truth. The closest contact and free interchange between all aspects of the Whole will be achieved; a sure knowledge of the meaning and purpose of life will replace the present confusion and lead to a demonstration of beauty hitherto unknown. The true, the good and the beautiful will become a reality in men’s lives.
All of this presupposes, and depends on, a change in direction from the present chaos. Naught of good can emerge without a fundamental restructuring of social forms along lines more compatible with human needs. Were man to realize how much of his God-given potential is sacrificed to the present unholy order, he would delay not one moment in making the needed changes. Were he to sense but an inkling of the glory of that potential, naught would be allowed to bar his way to its achievement. The future calls man to his finest efforts, his noblest aspiration, his grandest vision.
Let man build a future in which his sacrifice is not of his divinity but of his separated self. Let him embrace his brothers in love and make himself whole.

These articles are by a senior member of the Hierarchy of Masters of Wisdom. His name, well-known in esoteric circles, is not yet being revealed. Benjamin Creme, a principal spokesman about the emergence of Maitreya, was in constant telepathic contact with this Master who dictated his articles to him.

The Masters serve the plan of evolution of the human and subhuman kingdoms. They are the Custodians of all the energies entering the planet. Powerful cosmic energies impinge upon this planet from everywhere in space. We know nothing about them and can do nothing with them, since we do not have that science; but the Masters work with these energies, scientifically balancing them and sending them into the world to help humanity evolve. Eric Leskowitz MD, is a retired psychiatrist who spent over 30 years studying energy healing, meditation and hypnosis. He founded and directed the Integrative Medicine Project at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, where he served in the hospital’s Pain Management Program for 25 years. He held appointments in the Departments of Psychiatry at both Harvard and Tufts University.
In Part One of his interview with Share International’s Jason Francis, Dr Leskowitz explains how life energy — or the ‘biofield’ — is recognized in many global healing traditions. He argues that Western medicine is undergoing a paradigm shift toward integrating this energetic understanding into its model of health and healing.

Franz Mesmer and animal magnetism
Share International: One of the first scientists in the West to discover this subtle life or etheric energy was German physician Franz Mesmer (1743-1815). Could you talk about his contributions to an understanding of subtle energy and the healing techniques he developed?
Eric Leskowitz: Mesmer is a key person in the development of holistic, integrative health and medicine. In Europe in the late 1700s there was a lot of interest in these new forces of electricity and magnetism that scientists were just discovering and working on. Benjamin Franklin was flying his kite and attracting electricity from lightning. People were finding that certain kinds of stones were lodestones that have a magnetic force that could be tangibly felt.
Mesmer was a physician from Germany who was interested in these invisible forces. He applied this idea to the human body to figure out if there could be a form of animal magnetism.
That was the name he used for these forces: animal magnetism. Mesmer did a lot of research and wrote treatises on it with 27 major principles. Some of them said that energy flows throughout the fluids in the body and could be transmitted from one person to another. It was very ‘acupuncture-ish’. But he didn’t know anything about acupuncture since there hadn’t been an East-West connection yet. This is something he developed independently. That speaks to the universality and validity of it.
… there were infirmaries throughout Europe and journals devoted to Mesmerism. There is a famous study by a famous British naval surgeon who used Mesmerism to anesthetize patients so he could do surgery. Something clearly was happening. But it really died out almost totally in the mid-1800s when, in Boston, a chemical or ether anesthesia was introduced that could be produced in just a matter of minutes. Mesmeric anesthesia would take a couple of hours to develop. You didn’t need special training for ether anesthesia and it worked. That took over really quickly. Since then, Mesmer has not been talked about until much more recently now that people are investigating things like the magnetic field around the body and in the body. I think he’s due to reclaim his reputation as a positive contributor to the healing arts. …
Wilhelm Reich and orgone energy
SI: Could you tell us a little about the other Western investigators who have sought to bring to the public’s attention the reality of etheric energy?
EL: There has been a steady stream of them. They usually get ‘excommunicated’. Another one who I write about in my book was a psychiatrist and a core student of Sigmund Freud in Vienna. His name was Wilhelm Reich. He later came to America and established a research center in Maine. Some of his work was fascinating because he invented very simple devices to gather and concentrate an invisible energy [which he termed orgone]. One of them is called an orgone box or accumulator. It is a box like a closet that you can sit in. It’s made of wood, metal and cotton, which by our methods can be anything except insulation. People felt charged up inside.
… his theories of how to help this energy circulate in the body have really changed the focus of psychotherapy because he said you can’t just think about it [healing]. You have to embody it in your body. He and his students developed movement patterns to activate this energy and keep it moving, and from being blocked by what he called ‘muscular armouring’.
Nowadays there are many forms of body-centered therapy. One of the most influential and recent psychiatric books about post-traumatic stress has a Reichian kind of notion because of its title, The Body Keeps the Score [by Bessel van der Kolk]. It is another way of saying that trauma gets stored in the body — just like Mesmer said. Like Mesmer, Reich’s name is mud too. But his contributions have really taken hold and I don’t think there is any going back.

Activists have been working across the USA to inform the public and build consensus around issues not being acted on by both the current and preceding administrations. Many groups are using online tools like zoom webinars and film salons to inform citizens of the realities of situations like the war in Gaza by engaging them with important content. Unlike webinars, film salons have two parts: First, participants watch documentary films (in their own time) which explain the issues and present facts on the ground which are not readily available through the mainstream media. Next, participants can join a Question and Answer (Q&A) zoom meeting with experts, including the filmmakers. At the end of the Q&A, participants are often able to meet and speak to each other in breakout rooms.
One such film salon: Voices From the Holy Land (VFHL) film series (voicesfromtheholyland.org) is sponsored and supported by a coalition of over a hundred interfaith (Christian, Jew, Muslim, Unitarian, Quaker) and interdenominational organizations nationwide (USA) whose members feel called by their faith to work for justice, human rights, and peace in the land that is holy to all three Abrahamic faiths.
It addresses questions such as why is peace in Palestine-Israel so hard to achieve after three generations of conflict? How can we understand the differing historical narratives so as to come to mutual respect? How are issues of justice and human-rights playing out in this so-called ‘conflict?’ How do we understand the American government’s policies and actions when being an ‘honest-broker’ in the Holy Land?
The films in this series provide those interested in the Palestine/Israel conflict with critical information and documentation that can be difficult to obtain through mainstream Western media sources, and encourage dialog towards taking action on the issue.
The series began in February 2015 with a public screening of the film Voices Across the Divide, by Alice Rothchild and Sharon Mullally. It has continued almost monthly since then. In May 2020, the series went online; the first online Q&A session was in September 2020. (A full listing of all the films screened to date can be found on their calendar.
The 16 February session was co-sponsored by the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice and If Americans Knew.
The list of supporter organizations for this session alone was extensive (a total of 19) and included the Palestine Justice Network of the Presbyterian Church (USA), Quaker Palestine Israel Network, Unitarian Universalists for Justice in the Middle East and Episcopal Peace Fellowship Palestine Israel Network.
Participants watched the film Rooted in the West Bank as preparation: the February 16 session included Breakout rooms after the conclusion of the Q&A discussion.
A longform documentary that was shot over 25 years, Rooted in the West Bank, focuses on the Atta family. We follow their life over that timespan as Israel systematically uproots them from their lands and makes their life impossible. It is one of the most difficult films I have ever watched. I had to stop more than once to take a break from viewing it to give myself time to process what I was seeing on the screen; I cannot imagine what the lived experience must be like.
Even though I have been following events in Palestine closely since 7 October, 2023 and regularly before that, this film was an eye opener. I had never before seen the ‘Settler Youth’ in action; it was simultaneously horrifying and heart-breaking. Most of us have seen maps covering the period from 1948 to the present which show the progressive capture of Palestinian land by Israel, but I had never actually witnessed this capture taking place in real time. Watching was a visceral experience of that process — it was gut-wrenching.
At the same time, the film celebrates much human goodness and valor: the qualities of forbearance and tolerance displayed by the Atta family in the face of this continual harassment and the destruction of their property, as well as the support and involvement of activists from The Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, demonstrate the best in humanity.
I then participated in the Q&A discussion which was moderated by Mouin Rabbani (Co-Editor of Jadaliyya; researcher, analyst, and commentator) and included three speakers: the filmmaker, Bruno Sorrentino, who specializes in longitudinal documentaries; the activist Jeff Halper (who we see in the film), an Israeli-American anthropologist, author, lecturer, and political activist and founder of the activist group Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD) and Eid Suleman Hathaleen, an artist & human rights activist from Umm al Khair, whose home was demolished by the IDF.
Over 350 people took part in the zoom meeting, and the chat was very active. Comments and questions overwhelmingly displayed deep engagement with the issues at hand, and a sincere commitment to understand more.
As the world reels from the first few months of a new American presidency and its administration’s headlong rush to implement an unjust and divisive agenda, it’s hard to not lose faith in a hopeful future for humanity. Yet as those familiar with the esoteric teachings given out in Alice A. Bailey’s and Benjamin Creme’s books about the externalization of the Hierarchy know: crisis is often a catalyst for a breakdown of old structures, and destruction ever precedes the building of the new.
If we look back to another relatively recent pivotal moment in world history, the period of the World Wars we can observe the Spiritual Hierarchy’s efforts to help guide humanity in a time of great chaos. The American President at that time, Franklin D Roosevelt was an initiate who through his office exhibited the qualities of vision, courage, and dedication to the greater good — expressions of soul consciousness that enabled tremendous improvements to the life of his fellow Americans and all of humanity, particularly through his work to secure peace throughout the world in the founding of the United Nations.
In 1934, a close disciple of the Master Morya, Helena Roerich, was given the task of sharing the Masters’ guidance directly with Roosevelt. This took place through letters she wrote to him, beginning in the autumn of that year, hand delivered by two of her close associates. Although the President knew nothing about the “Himalayan Brotherhood,” he evidently received and took these messages to heart as inspired advice. These letters, written between October 1934 and January 1936, were recently published in a book attributed to Helena Roerich entitled: The Secret World Government, Cosmic Guidance for the Leader. The original copies can be found in the Franklin D Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park, New York.
In her first letter to Roosevelt, written 10 October, 1934, Roerich shares her mission, “At the austere hour when the entire world stands at the threshold of reconstruction and the fate of many countries is being weighed on the Cosmic Scales, I am writing to You from the Himalayan Heights, to offer You the Highest Help. The Help of that Source, which since time immemorial stands on constant Vigil, observing and directing the march of world events into saving channels. History of all times and all peoples bears witness to this Help, which concealed from public notoriety, is usually extended at the turning point in the history of countries.”
She then goes on to share notable examples of such counsel from the past, including warnings given to Marie Antoinette, Napoleon, Queen Victoria and the government of Russia. She explains that George Washington, one of the founding fathers of America had received advice from a mysterious professor, as well as the fact that at the signing of the Declaration of Independence a tall stranger rose from amidst the audience and proclaimed that “America would be free!”
Saying that the destiny of the country is in his hands, Roerich tells Roosevelt it is still up to him to accept or reject the “Great Messages from the same One Source”: “America has reached the boundary of the turning point in her History. Precisely, America can reach her great significance and peaceful bounty. You, Mr. President, have realised that with the outlived measures, which have reduced the world to its present state of destruction, [it] is impossible to build the welfare and the future of the Country. You are indefatigably and courageously seeking ways of new constructiveness. You have understood that the Bird of Spirit of humanity cannot fly on one wing and hence you have given the due place to Woman. You can be not only the Ruler but the true great leader.”
The book The Secret World Government, Cosmic Guidance for the Leader notes that upon receipt of this historic message, Roosevelt developed a profound interest in Helena Roerich and, from that moment on, eagerly anticipated her responses. His responding questions were always delivered orally rather than in writing. In her subsequent letter, Roerich replies she’s happy that his “…great heart has so beautifully accepted the Message and Your light-bearing mind was free from prejudice, this horrible contagion which extinguishes in us the divine and creative fire of faith.”
She then imparts verbatim the message she has been entrusted to share with him. The advice given covers many topics: the need to maintain a vigilant resistance to being drawn into war, with hints that this provocation would come from “the East.” There is a suggestion to maintain military strength despite public opposition — asserting that a formidable defence can successfully deter aggression. Warnings are given, highlighting the American Midwest’s vulnerability to wheat crop failures, urging proactive grain storage and expanded cultivation in northern and eastern regions. Further letters speak of the need for Roosevelt to help form a Pan-American relationship uniting the countries of North and South America. Imparted also is the fact that America has since long ago had a link with Asia, as well as information that Russia is the “equibalance” of America and “…only with such a construction will the World Peace become a solved problem.”
During the same period, in 1934, Helena Roerich’s book “Guidance for the Leader” was brought by Nicholas Roerich to the United States and presented as a gift to President Roosevelt via Henry Wallace, his Secretary for Agriculture, who was a great admirer of Nicholas Roerich’s work on cultural initiatives through the Roerich Pact. Guidance for the Leader was based on conversations Helena Roerich had with her Master, the Master Morya. The book aimed to inspire a new generation of leaders dedicated to serving humanity across various spheres of life. It offers advice on parenting, education, economics, and emphasizes principles for enlightened leadership in both personal and public life. While intended for those in power, its spiritual teachings are applicable to anyone in daily life. This book, in its entirety, is included in the text of The Secret World Government, Cosmic Guidance for the Leader, published in 2023.
The correspondence between Helena Roerich and Roosevelt ended in January of 1936, soon after it was discovered by Roerich that the two close long-time associates she had entrusted to hand deliver her letters to the White House — Louis and Nettie Horch — had betrayed her trust on one occasion by sharing some advice of their own while maintaining that it had come from Helena Roerich’s own Source. The advice they had fabricated was related to investments and they had hoped to financially profit from actions that Roosevelt might take in response to such advice.
As evidenced through the writings of Helena Blavatsky, Helena Roerich, Alice A Bailey, and Benjamin Creme, the Spiritual Hierarchy has helped to guide the progress of humanity since the dawn of man on our planet, and this no doubt continues today. In the article A Time of Change from the book A Master Speaks, Benjamin Creme’s Master notes the challenges faced in this complex process:
“Almost without exception, the nations of the world are experiencing profound changes, both internally and in relation to each other. This process is the direct result of the energetic stimulus now pervading the planet as a whole, and will lead eventually to a complete transformation of the existing structures. To quicken these changes is Our desire and wish, but so great today are the tensions that We must proceed with care; too much pressure here or there could have disastrous consequences for large sections of the world. Hence Our cautious approach to the problems which face man today. Change must proceed in an orderly fashion or chaos will result. … Always, Our aim is the achievement of ordered change with the minimum of cleavage. Look, therefore, for Our hand in world events and judge them wisely. Much that takes place is fashioned by Us and must eventuate in a better world. When you see Us, you will know that this world is in safe keeping.”
