If you can accept the evolution of consciousness as a basic fact of life and reality on our planet and in our solar system, it will be obvious that at some point our planet (and all life on it and associated with it) must progress to the next step in its development towards perfection — a sign of the constant unfoldment of latent possibilities.

How then to explain the barbarity, the craving for power, the blood-lust, greed, corruption and sheer evil of the crisis in which we find ourselves now? Just when people of goodwill dared to believe in our own humanity and in divine inspiration towards the next step in our collective upward journey, the forces of materiality confront us with the current chaos.

Unjustified. Unjustifiable. Illegal. Unconstitutional — literally in breach of the Constitution of the United States. Criminal and in contravention of International Law. Murderous. Corrupt. Amoral. Depraved. Perfidious: Israel and the United States attacked Iran on spurious grounds while negotiations were ongoing. The truth is yet again the first victim of war, or was it already barely alive? The mainstream media appears to have sacrificed its integrity to the snares of bulging bank accounts and the lure of perks, influence and so-called prestige.

As the dying US Empire flails about, it could, like a drowning man, pull others down with it. The question is: what course of action can the rest of the world take to rescue itself from the insanity of the ‘United States of Israel’ and its backers — the ‘Epstein Class’ or oligarchs?

We may perhaps find in the following comment by Benjamin Creme’s Master (25 July 2016) an accurate description of our times as well as an answer to the horrors which are the stuff of nightmares and the content of our daily lives:

“Turmoil is almost always the result of the change from one Cosmic state to another. Many people are still enmeshed in the old ways. Many people are too worried or too unaware to recognize the need for another way of acting and being.

It is also a question of how humanity responds to the new energies. Most of the response is based on greed or fear. The wealthy have become independent and very greedy. They are afraid they will not be able to take advantage of everything on offer; they are also afraid of losing their wealth. Men have to realize that the world is One — One humanity. The rich, who manage the resources based on greed and competition, deny this truth at their peril.” (A Master speaks, Volume Two)

Writing in The Externalisation of the Hierarchy, the Master Djwhal Khul describes the basis for a new world guaranteeing peace after WWII:

“6. The new world order will be founded on an active sense of responsibility. The rule will be ‘all for one and one for all.’ This attitude among nations
will have to be developed. It is not yet present.

7. The new world order will not impose a uniform type of government, a synthetic religion and a system of standardization upon the nations. The sovereign rights of each nation will be recognized and its peculiar genius, individual trends and racial qualities will be permitted full expression. In one particular only should there be an attempt to produce unity, and that will be in the field of education.

8. The new world order will recognize that the produce of the world, the natural resources of the planet and its riches, belong to no one nation but should be shared by all. There will be no nations under the category ‘haves’ and others under the opposite category. A fair and properly organized distribution of the wheat, the oil and the mineral wealth of the world will be developed, based upon the needs of each nation, upon its own internal resources and the requirements of its people. All this will be worked out in relation to the whole.

9. In the preparatory period for the new world order there will be a steady and regulated disarmament. It will not be optional. No nation will be permitted to produce and organize any equipment for destructive purposes or to infringe the security of any other nation. One of the first tasks of any future peace conference will be to regulate this matter and gradually see to the disarming of the nations.”

In this issue we have chosen articles which underscore our interconnectedness — not only with each other but also with all other life — and our role as the link with, and stewardship for, the other kingdoms. ‘Other life’ involves also the unseen worlds, working not only with nature but nature spirits — the devas. Underpinning and sustaining all forms are the finer etheric energies which are featured in this issue and are a source of hope and of clean ‘fuel’ in a future where war and conflict for power and resources has been relegated to the past.

As ever, the emphasis in Share International is on a better future, with justice, equality, the rule of law and peace upheld and respected by all. As Benjamin Creme’s Master expressed it: “When men know, beyond all gainsaying, that there exists only One Life, manifesting through a myriad of forms, they will begin to see their task as the organizing and distribution of that Life for the greater good of all creation.” (from “The linking kingdom”)

History occasionally presents moments when the truth about a conflict is stated plainly enough that it becomes impossible to ignore. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s 7 February address in Doha, Qatar should prove to be such a moment. His important and constructive remarks responded to the US call for comprehensive negotiations, and he laid out a sound proposal for peace across the Middle East.

Last week, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called for comprehensive negotiations: “If the Iranians want to meet, we’re ready.” He proposed for talks to include the nuclear issue, Iran’s military capabilities, and its support for proxy groups around the region. On its surface, this sounds like a serious and constructive proposal. The Middle East’s security crises are interconnected, and diplomacy that isolates nuclear issues from broader regional dynamics is unlikely to endure.

On 7 February, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi responded to the United States’ proposal for a comprehensive peace. In his speech at the Al Jazeera Forum, the foreign minister addressed the root cause of regional instability — “Palestine… is the defining question of justice in West Asia and beyond” and he proposed a path forward.

The Foreign Minister’s statement is correct. The failure to resolve the issue of Palestinian statehood has indeed fueled every major regional conflict since 1948. The Arab-Israeli wars, the rise of anti-Israel militancy, the regional polarization, and the repeated cycles of violence, all derive from the failure to create a State of Palestine alongside the State of Israel. Gaza represents the most devastating chapter in this conflict, where Israel’s brutal occupation of Palestine was followed by Hamas’s attack on Israel on 7 October, 2023, and then by Israel’s genocide against the people of Gaza.

In his speech, Araghchi condemned Israel’s expansionist project “pursued under the banner of security.” He warned of the annexation of the West Bank, which Israeli government officials and National Security Minister Ben Gvir continually call for, and for which the Knesset has already passed a motion.

Araghchi also highlighted another fundamental dimension of Israeli strategy which is the pursuit of permanent military supremacy across the region. He said that Israel’s expansionist project requires that “neighboring countries be weakened — militarily, technologically, economically, and socially — so that the Israeli regime permanently enjoys the upper hand.” This is indeed the Clean Break doctrine of Prime Minister Netanyahu, dating back 30 years. It has been avidly supported by the US through 100 billion dollars in military assistance to Israel since 2000, diplomatic cover at the UN via repeated vetoes, and the consistent US rejection of accountability measures for Israel’s violations of international humanitarian law.

Israel’s impunity has destabilized the region, fueling arms races, proxy wars, and cycles of revenge. It has also corroded what remains of the international legal order. The abuse of international law by the US and Israel, with much of Europe remaining silent, has gravely weakened the UN Charter, leaving the UN close to collapse.

In the concluding remarks of his speech, he offered the US a political solution and path forward. “The path to stability is clear: justice for Palestine, accountability for crimes, an end to occupation and apartheid, and a regional order built on sovereignty, equality, and cooperation. If the world wants peace, it must stop rewarding aggression. If the world wants stability, it must stop enabling expansionism.”

This is a valid and constructive response to Rubio’s call for comprehensive diplomacy.

This framework could address all the interlocking dimensions of the region’s conflict. The end of Israel’s expansion and occupation of Palestine, and Israel’s return to the borders of 4 June, 1967, would bring an end to outside funding and arming of proxy groups in the region. The creation of a Palestinian state alongside the state of Israel would enhance Israel’s security as well as that of its neighbors. A renewed nuclear agreement with Iran, strictly limiting Iran to peaceful nuclear activities and paired with the lifting of US and EU sanctions, would add a crucial pillar of regional stability. Iran already agreed to such a nuclear framework a decade ago, in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) that was adopted by the UN Security Council in Resolution 2231. It was the US during Trump’s first term, not Iran, that withdrew from the agreement.

A comprehensive peace reflects the foundation of modern collective security doctrine, including the United Nations Charter itself. Durable peace requires mutual recognition of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and equal security guarantees for all states.

Regional security is the shared responsibility of all states in the region, and each of them faces a historic obligation. This comprehensive peace proposal is not new, it has been advocated for decades by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (57 Muslim majority countries) and the League of Arab States (22 Arab States). Ever since the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, all of these countries have endorsed, on a yearly basis, the framework of land-for-peace. All major Arab and Islamic states, allies of the US, have played a crucial role in facilitating the latest round of US-Iranian negotiations in Oman. Additionally, Saudi Arabia has clearly reminded the US that it will normalize relations with Israel only on the condition of the establishment of a Palestinian State.

The United States faces a moment of truth. Does it really want peace, or does it want to follow Israel’s extremism? For decades, the US has blindly followed Israeli misguided objectives. Domestic political pressures, powerful lobbying networks, strategic miscalculations, and perhaps a bit of blackmail lurking in the Epstein files (who knows?) have combined to subordinate American diplomacy to Israel’s regional ambitions.

The US subservience to Israel does not serve American interests. It has drawn the United States into repeated regional wars, undermined global trust in American foreign policy, and weakened the international legal order that Washington itself helped to construct after 1945.

A comprehensive peace offers the US a rare opportunity to correct course. By negotiating a comprehensive regional peace grounded in international law, the United States could reclaim genuine diplomacy and help to establish a stable regional security architecture that benefits all parties, including Israel and Palestine.

The Middle East stands at a crossroads between endless war and comprehensive peace. The framework for peace exists. It requires first and foremost Palestinian statehood, security guarantees for Israel and the rest of the region, a peaceful nuclear deal restoring the basic agreement adopted by the UN a decade ago, lifting of economic sanctions, the unbiased enforcement of international law, and a diplomatic architecture that replaces military force with security cooperation. The world should rally behind a comprehensive framework and take this historic opportunity to achieve regional peace.

Excellencies, distinguished colleagues, ladies and gentlemen, it is a privilege to address you at this distinguished forum and discuss the profound question of our region: PALESTINE. Let me begin with a fact that the region has learned through decades of painful experience, and that the world is learning again at a terrible human cost:

“Palestine is not one issue among many”
Palestine is the defining question of justice in West Asia and beyond. It is the strategic and moral compass of our region. It is a test of whether international law has meaning, whether human rights have universal value, and whether global institutions exist to protect the weak — or merely to rationalize the power of the strong.

For generations, the Palestinian crisis was understood primarily as the consequence of an illegal occupation and the denial of an inalienable right: the right of a people to self-determination. But today, we must recognize that the crisis has moved far beyond the parameters of occupation alone. What we are witnessing in Gaza is not merely war. It is not a ‘conflict’ between equal parties. It is not an unfortunate byproduct of security measures. It is the deliberate destruction of civilian life on a massive scale. It is genocide.

The human cost of Israel’s atrocities in Gaza has wounded the conscience of humanity. It has torn open the heart of the Muslim world — and it has also shaken millions beyond it: Christians, Jews, and people of all faiths, who still believe that the life of a child is not a bargaining chip, that starvation is not a weapon, that hospitals are not battlefields, and that the killing of families is not self-defense.

Palestine today is not simply a tragedy; it is a mirror held up to the world. It reflects not only the suffering of Palestinians, but also the moral failure of those who had the power to stop this catastrophe — and chose instead to justify it, enable it, or normalize it.

But Palestine and Gaza is not only a humanitarian crisis. It has become the platform for something larger and more dangerous: an expansionist project pursued under the banner of ‘security’.

This project has three consequences — each of them profound, each of them alarming:

The first consequence is global. The Israeli regime’s conduct in Palestine, and the impunity granted to it, have deeply damaged the international legal order. We must say this clearly: the world is moving toward a condition where international law no longer is respected and governs international relations.

What is perhaps most dangerous is the precedent being established: that if a state has sufficient political cover and protection, it may bomb civilians, besiege populations, target infrastructure, assassinate individuals across borders, and still demand to be regarded as lawful.

This is not merely a Palestinian problem. It is a global problem. We are witnessing not only the tragedy of Palestine, but the transformation of the world into a place where the law is replaced by force.

The second consequence is regional. Israel’s expansionist project has had a direct and destabilizing impact on the security of all countries in the region.

The Israeli regime now openly violates borders. It breaches sovereignties. It assassinates official dignitaries. It conducts terrorist operations. It expands its reach in multiple theaters. And it does so, not discreetly, but with a sense of entitlement — because it has learned that international accountability will not come.

Let us be candid: if the Gaza issue is ‘settled’ through destruction and forced displacement — if that becomes the model — then the West Bank will be next. Annexation will become policy. This is the essence of what has long been called the “Greater Israel” project.

The question therefore is not whether Israel’s actions threaten Palestinians alone. The question is whether the region will accept a future in which borders are temporary, sovereignty is conditional, and security is determined not by law or diplomacy, but by the ambitions of a militarized occupier.

The third consequence is structural — and perhaps the most dangerous.

Israel’s expansionist project requires that neighboring countries be weakened — militarily, technologically, economically, and socially — so that the Israeli regime permanently enjoys the upper hand.

Under this project, Israel is free to expand its military arsenal without limits, including weapons of mass destruction that remain outside any inspection regime. Yet other countries are demanded to disarm. Others are pressured to reduce defensive capacity. Others are punished for scientific progress. Others are sanctioned for building resilience.

Nobody should be confused: This is not arms control. It is not non-proliferation. It is not security.

It is the enforcement of permanent inequality: Israel must have a “military, intelligence and strategic edge,” and others must remain vulnerable. This is a doctrine of domination.

Ladies and gentlemen,

This is why the Palestinian question is not only a humanitarian issue. It is a strategic issue. It is not only about Gaza and the West Bank. It is about the future of our region and the rules of the world.

So what must be done?

It is not enough to express concern. It is not enough to issue statements. It is not enough to mourn. We need a coordinated strategy of action — legal, diplomatic, economic, and security-based — rooted in the principles of international law and collective responsibility.

First, the international community must support legal mechanisms without hesitation.

Second, there must be consequences for violations.

We call for comprehensive and targeted sanctions against Israel, including:

• an immediate arms embargo
• the suspension of military and intelligence co-operation
• restrictions on officials, AND
• banning trade

Third, we need a credible political horizon grounded in law. The international community must affirm:

• the end of occupation
• the right of return and compensation in accordance with international law, AND
• the establishment of a unified and independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif [Jerusalem] as its capital

Fourth, the humanitarian crisis must be treated as a matter of urgent international responsibility. Collective punishment must never be normalized.

Fifth, regional states must co-ordinate to protect sovereignty and deter aggression. The principle must be clear: security cannot be built on the insecurity of others.

AND,

Finally, the Islamic world, the Arab world, and the nations of the Global South must build a united diplomatic front.

The Organization of Islamic Co-operation, the Arab League, and regional organizations must move beyond symbolism toward coordinated action: legal support, diplomatic initiatives, economic measures, and strategic messaging.

This is not about confrontation. It is about preventing the region from being reshaped by force.

Dear colleagues,

Let no one miscalculate: a region cannot be kept stable by allowing one actor to act above the law. The doctrine of impunity will not produce peace; it will produce wider conflict.

The path to stability is clear: justice for Palestine, accountability for crimes, an end to occupation and apartheid, and a regional order built on sovereignty, equality, and co-operation.

If the world wants peace, it must stop rewarding aggression.

If the world wants stability, it must stop enabling expansionism.

If the world believes in international law, it must enforce it — consistently and without double standards.

And if the nations of this region seek a future free from perpetual war, they must recognize this fundamental truth: Palestine is not merely a cause for solidarity; it is the indispensable cornerstone of regional security.

Man finds it difficult enough to conceive even vaguely the nature of the Spiritual Hierarchy controlling our planetary system. Our planetary Hierarchy, however, only constitutes a subsidiary of the vaster solar Hierarchy, and the latter is again part of an even more comprehensive cosmic constellation, reaching out to ever wider horizons beyond all imagination.

In these subjective spheres innumerable Entities conduct their activities at levels of their own evolution, and in conditions which, according to the Sages, are to them far more real and vital than what they describe as our ‘world of illusion’. To the man in the street, reference to these etheric realms and their inhabitants may sound like pure fantasy; to him, the believer in such ‘unproved’ nonsense is to be regarded either with ridicule or with the sympathy reserved for the simple-minded. Others hesitate to express an opinion, because, who knows, in this strange world of ours ‘anything is possible’, and therefore there might just lurk some trace of truth in these assertions! With some, a faint inner voice might also warn against too quick condemnation of these beliefs, and some doubt might arise… ‘Would it not perhaps be advisable first to find out a little more about these claims?’ But, whatever the motivation for following these thoughts, try to retain an open mind, allowing the intuition to take its course and giving the imagination free scope to roam beyond the immediate tangible environment — there lies so much, much more beyond the etheric web with which we are enshrouded, restricting our vision and discrimination. How fortunate are those who succeed in penetrating this dense curtain, to obtain even a restricted view of that which lies beyond.

There are those who believe in divine guidance, who recognize the existence of a Supreme Being or God, and acknowledge him as the Almighty Ruler of the Heavens. There are those who see God not only as the absolute, but also as the sole Ruler, at most perhaps assisted by the Christ, or Buddha, or Mohammed, or some other Prophet (depending on the observer’s religious background), and perhaps also availing himself of a few angels as divine messengers, but no more — just the wide and empty heavens, with God the Ruler on his throne.

When it is taught that this Supreme Authority does not stand alone, but has surrounded himself with a vast executive organization to administer and consummate his Will, Purpose and Plan, many would consider this as a form of disparagement and even as sacrilege. But when viewed without prejudice, should the existence of such an executive staff not be most logical? “Ponder on this.”

Think back for a moment to the picture painted in an earlier article, in an effort to depict the immensity of the Universe, in which vast expanse our solar system disappears as the merest atom. Would it be so very far-fetched and unreasonable to assume that there could be, or rather should be, some well organized system through which the Almighty functions, and which he could use as a channel for expression and for the execution of his objectives? According to the Bible, man has been created in the image of his Creator — this would surely in the first instance refer to the mental and spiritual image and likeness, rather than to any physical resemblance. One of man’s most outstanding characteristics, which becomes ever more pronounced as he evolves, is his increasing power of organization. What could be more logical than to conclude that this aptitude is also being received from spiritual planes, and to presume that the subjective realms are similarly regulated and controlled by some wide-spread and perfect organization under the direction of the Almighty?

Let us for a moment ignore the wider Universe, and limit our attention to a closer study of our own little planet. Has the student ever visualized how every form is constructed of millions and billions of atoms, all interrelated through the etheric world? This fantastic atomic complex composed of the mineral, plant, animal and human kingdoms of nature, functions from day to day and age to age like a perfect machine, reacting to supernal guiding forces, and evolving towards some particular Purpose, which will forever remain an enigma to man. But that this development is proceeding according to a directed Plan must be obvious, otherwise the whole interrelated and interacting system between the several kingdoms, would in no time collapse in chaos. The direction of this comprehensive divine Plan, with all its minutiae, must therefore surely postulate a vast and most efficient subjective organization.

Man, in his blind ignorance but nonetheless endowed with a ‘free will’ and dormant powers of which he is fortunately not yet fully aware, has on many occasions apparently done his best to upset this natural balance and to produce a state of confusion. Just think of the constant wars and destruction that he has provoked, or the nuclear explosions for which he has been responsible, and of his wanton exploitation of the world’s forests and several other natural resources and features. But notwithstanding all this, and even though temporary imbalance has repeatedly been created, it is surprising how ‘Nature’ always succeeds in restoring some form of equilibrium. Surely this must constitute clear evidence of the amazing and widespread powers of this subjective agency, which retains an ordered control in spite of the many temporary disruptions caused by man’s stupidities.

As a further example of the planned co-ordination issuing from hidden realms, consider the flower, one of nature’s ‘simple’ everyday products, occurring so abundantly and beautifying our world with its many variations. Think of its lovely form, colouring and perfume; consider the many fantastic ways nature has devised for fertilizing and reproducing plants, each true to type and species, and each a perfect specimen. The science of botany has learnt much of the plant’s physiology and anatomy; with the study of genetics some of the hereditary laws to which the plant is subject have been determined, but so much about the life of the plant still remains a closed book to man. It is only quite recently that science has discovered that the plant also possesses an etheric body, and that reactions registered in this vital body closely resemble the emotions and consciousness as reflected in the higher kingdoms.

The Sages also teach about the Deva-evolution, and that these devas are the builders responsible for the construction of every form in material expression. This deva or angel-kingdom, which includes the very actual realms of fairies, gnomes, etc, although closely associated with human activities, must however be regarded as a separate study. This subject is only mentioned here to indicate the existence of a parallel and relatively unexplored evolution, which, on different planes, is closely related to the Hierarchy responsible for human evolution.

Some would scoff at the very concept of ‘nature spirits’ and ‘devas,’ because, in our materialistic culture, we’re trained to believe the only reality is what we can see and measure. The ancients knew, intuitively, the importance of the natural world, recognizing the interconnectedness of all things. However, with the invention of tools that allowed us to exploit and control nature’s resources, we lost that direct, co-operative relationship with the forces we depend upon for our survival. Now, as we experience the many crises created by that separative approach, we’re beginning to reassess our relationship with nature.

In multiple locations around the world, groups and individuals have re-learned experientially how beneficial it is to co-operate with, rather than overpower, natural processes. Some individuals are finding they can access their etheric vision and see nature spirits and devas — or even merge their consciousness energetically with them. Esotericists provide a parallel spiritual perspective, and even modern science has confirmed that we live in a universe much more expansive than we thought. Science and spirituality are converging.

Scientifically, Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Physics have proven that our universe is made up only of vibrations, absolutely interconnected. Objects that we see as the only reality are, in fact, simply vibrations of a denser frequency. According to experiences recorded in The Findhorn Garden and The Kingdom of the Gods, described in the following sections, devas, in this more accurate cosmology, exist at a high vibration, invisible to most, and function to hold the archetypal pattern for each plant species. They direct energy toward bringing individual plants into dense form on the physical plane, whether a giant tree or a blade of grass.

Nature spirits or elementals, from this broader perspective, channel the energies from the devas to create an ‘etheric body’ for each plant or manifestation, according to its archetypal pattern.

These etheric bodies are akin to ours, which can be seen in Kirlian photographs as auras.

Although we’re largely unaware of them, nature devas are fundamental to the inner structure of our planet and play a large role in how our environment acts and reacts.

The Findhorn Garden
Peter and Eileen Caddy’s work in Findhorn, Scotland, provides modern experiential evidence of nature devas, as described in the book The Findhorn Garden: Pioneering a New Vision of Man and Nature in Co-operation. In 1962, Peter, Eileen, their three sons, and their colleague, Dorothy Maclean, moved their thirty-foot caravan trailer into a park on a narrow, sandy peninsula jutting into the North Sea. Peter was unemployed, and the six of them were living on eight GBP (about $20 USD) a week in unemployment benefits. They had moved to that spot based on guidance Eileen received in meditation.

Peter, Eileen, and Dorothy had each engaged in arduous spiritual training throughout their lives. Says Peter: “We had learned to surrender everything, including our wills, to God. Thus, when we were told that what we were doing at Findhorn would be of importance to the world, that there was a pattern and plan behind it, impossible as this seemed considering our circumstances, we accepted it.”

At Findhorn, they were exposed to nearly constant winds from all sides, and the soil was just sand and gravel held together by couch grass.

Peter, still without a job in the spring of 1963, decided to start a small garden and began collecting materials for compost to add to the sandy soil. Soon after the first seeds were sown, Dorothy, who had always had the closest link with nature, made a direct contact with the deva of the garden pea.

From that initial contact followed a long process of communicating with more devas about the development of what became an ever-enlarging garden overflowing with life. The devas told Dorothy they liked variety in the garden, because each plant offers its unique radiation, and many devas wanted to participate in the experiment! In 1964, the Findhorn crew grew 65 different vegetables, 21 fruits, and 42 different herbs.

The produce not only had outstanding vitality and flavor, but was also remarkable in quantity and size. In the second growing season, for example, while red cabbages normally weigh about four pounds at maturity, two at Findhorn weighed in at 38 and 42 pounds!

The devas explained that much of the imbalance in nature has been caused by man, “killing off the birds who fed on insects, for example, by using poisonous insecticides or by filling the atmosphere with chaotic thoughts and unnatural atomic radiations [eg from nuclear weapons testing]. As we put life into the soil, they told us, and refrained from using those materials which destroy life, we were working to right the balance.”

When the County Horticultural Adviser came to take a soil sample, he explained that he was familiar with the soil in that area and “knew” that there would be deficiencies. However, the nature spirits had assured Peter beforehand that if the soil were deficient, they would produce the elements needed for perfect growth. And so they did. The horticultural expert’s soil analysis found no deficiencies whatsoever, which both baffled and impressed him.

“The garden”, Peter concluded, “clearly had become the focal point for an experiment in the co-operation of three kingdoms: the devic, the elemental and the human. Each of us at Findhorn was playing a distinct and necessary role in the experiment. Eileen received direct guidance from the voice of God within. Dorothy was in communication with the devas. Roc [a close off-site friend and participant] had the ability to see and speak with nature spirits. I was the representative of man, the active, practical creator of the garden. … We were learning how these three kingdoms could work together to create a new world in accord with the divine plan.”

Since the pioneering work of Nikola Tesla, the great Croatian-American inventor, there has been a succession of inventor/scientists who have carried on this crucial enterprise to develop a sustainable, clean, and unlimited form of energy production, none of whom, unlike Tesla, have managed to rise out of obscurity, despite their revolutionary discoveries that would otherwise have made them household names. Inventors such as James F. Murray III, mentioned in Part One, who, since the early 1980s, has conducted his own research into Tesla’s work. As a result, he developed a number of paradigm-shifting devices while working for a Canadian company, Nonlinear Dynamics Inc. (NLDI), which was also Tesla-inspired. One such example was the Switched Energy Resonant Power Supply (SERPS), which clearly demonstrated ‘over-unity’: the capacity to supply more electricity than was put into it, in this case, fifty times more, or as it is otherwise described, had a Coefficient of Performance (CoP) of fifty.

Then there is electrical and mechanical engineer Arthur Manelas, who emigrated from Greece to the US and worked on the space programme during the Apollo 13 mission. He designed a battery which was capable of recharging itself using a system based on Tesla’s ideas. At its core was a four-by-six-inch strontium ferrite magnet that created unstable magnetic fields. This magnetic slab was an essential part of the transformer and had magnetic wire wound around it in three directions. Two sets of wiring had high-voltage electricity put through them, producing an excess of power (over-unity) in the third winding, which recharged the battery pack.

In the late 1990s, Manelas used this system to power his Solectria electric sports car. In one test, the vehicle was driven with four passengers in it for 25 miles. By the end of the journey, it was noted that the battery capacity had increased from the 68 per cent it had started with to 89 per cent! During that test, it was also found that when the car was left unused for a week, voltmeters attached to the battery showed it had fully recharged itself, which, as scientists monitoring at the time stated, completely violated the first law of thermodynamics. Put simply, this law means no energy can be created, or destroyed for that matter — only transformed or converted from one form to another within a closed system, such as this one.

The scientists made another unusual discovery regarding the battery’s temperature. They observed that, while the system was running, thermistors placed on the magnetic billet at the core of its transformer showed that it remained at a steady five degrees centigrade below that of its surroundings. Conventional scientific laws would suggest this transformer should, instead, be heating up when working. Sadly, Arthur Manelas unexpectedly suffered a brain aneurysm in late 2012, never recovering his mental faculties, and passed away in 2014. As a result of his sudden decline, he did not manage to share the details of how his invention worked with anyone, and therefore, did not fulfill his lifelong dream of supplying Free Energy to the world.

Gateway to the universal
Another noteworthy example is former aeronautical engineer Floyd ‘Sparky’ Sweet, as he was affectionately known, who invented an over-unity device named the Vacuum Triode Amplifier (VTA). It was capable of generating significant amounts of electricity with only a tiny input from an electromagnetic signal, which went into a special magnetic block made of barium ferrite. Sweet had worked at General Electric and, on rare occasions, had observed electric transformers (with powerful magnets in them) display an effect called ‘self-oscillation’. He thought this effect could be utilized and looked for a way to disturb a magnetic field emitting from a stationary magnet in order to cause the field to continue to shake by itself — self-oscillation. Normally, a constantly rotating magnetic field, as in an electric dynamo when it is near a copper coil of wire, causes an electric current to flow in that wire. Sweet wondered whether the actual magnet could remain still and, instead, its magnetic field be set into self-oscillating motion and still produce an electric current in the copper wire. Eventually, he came up with an assembly of specially conditioned magnets wound with wire as the centre of the generator, which, unlike an electric dynamo or motor, had no moving parts. It literally, as one commentator put it, “pulled power out of the air” when kick-started by only a tiny fraction of a watt.

Lt Col Thomas Bearden, a physics theorist with unorthodox scientific views of his own, was asked by Sweet to test his new invention. In fact, it was Bearden who named it the Vacuum Triode Amplifier. He concluded, having seen it fully operational, that the VTA “served as a gate through which universal energy was herded into an electric circuit”. Once again, instead of creating heat, as all conventional transformers would, the VTA functioned with temperatures within the system as much as twenty degrees centigrade lower than the surrounding air, and surprisingly, the greater the electrical load on the device, the cooler it became. Apparently, when it accidentally shorted out, there would be a flash of brilliant light, and frost would form on the wires! Floyd Sweet suffered a fatal heart attack in 1995. With history repeating itself, he likewise took his secrets to the grave, not sharing the most important aspects of his invention with fellow researchers: for example, how he had specially conditioned the magnets at the heart of the VTA and how, exactly, he shook up the magnetic fields into self-oscillation.

An ocean of energy
Finally, working around the same time as Tesla was T.H. Moray, who, in the early 1920s, developed what he called a Radiant Energy Device, which could also harness this form of universal energy, and, incidentally, what the well-known Austrian doctor of medicine and psychoanalyst, Wilhelm Reich, referred to as Orgone Energy. Moray held positions as an electrical engineer in several large corporations, but, in 1921, he decided to work exclusively on his research into radiant/free energy and, within a few years, had built his first functioning prototype. The machine, which again had no moving parts, used the first semi-conductor valve or detector (made of fused silica — a good radio receiving crystal) that he had developed 20 years before even Bell Telephone Labs had put them into commercial operation. It was a key component of the electronic circuit and enabled it to ‘tune in’ the instrument. The device was connected to an ‘antenna’ capable of drawing down Radiant Energy, and to a ‘ground’ which completed the circuit. Moray referred to it as an “energy pump” as it could extract energy from, as he put it, the “sea of energy” which, like Tesla’s luminiferous ether, he believed pervades all of space. In fact, he wrote an account of his research and experiments in a book called The Sea of Energy in Which the Earth Floats, which was later edited by members of his family and published under his son’s name John E. Moray. Benjamin Creme, referring back to his early childhood experiences of seeing the etheric planes, described similarly that, “It was not until some twenty years later, through the building and use of Wilhelm Reich’s orgone accumulator, that I again became aware of this ocean of energy of which we ourselves are a part, and proved to myself conclusively the existence of the etheric planes of matter.”

An interesting quote from Moray’s book shows the dilemma he experienced in establishing his invention’s credibility amongst scientists and politicians. “Dr Moray realized the magnitude of his discovery and has felt the burden of responsibility for what could well be the future for mankind. He has a sincere desire to place his knowledge where it would do most good for all and not into the hands of a few who were selfish for power and wealth. On 24 July 1925, while conferring with Senator Reed Smoot at the senator’s invitation… Dr Moray offered his radiant energy discovery to the United States Government gratis. The senator thanked Dr Moray for his offer, but stated that the US government would decline such an offer on the grounds that the government was not running in competition with public utilities [ie the monopolistic fossil fuel industry].”

Moray continued to demonstrate his Radiant Energy Device to those in positions of influence who were interested, such as the Secretary of State for Utah, Mr Wilton H. Welling. In his statement, after one particular demonstration, Welling noted that he saw the inventor tune in the instrument, and it was as simple as operating a well-equipped radio set. After that, a light rack of some thirty-five 50 and 100 watt lamps, a Hot Point flat iron and an electric heater were all connected to the attuned machine. The lamps shone very brightly, with seemingly more than the ordinary voltage that would normally be put through them. It was feared they would all burn out, but none of them did. The Secretary of State was informed that it would be the same result even if he had connected hundreds of such lamps to the circuit. At the end of his account, Welling stated: “I confidently believe Dr Moray is on the threshold of perfecting one of the most amazing fundamental inventions of history.” Eventually, Moray produced a machine that could generate 50kW of electricity without any input of power whatsoever. As with the other inventions, the electricity produced had a strange characteristic that some have called “cold current”, which meant it could be passed through thin wires with such power that, with conventionally produced electricity, those same wires would have melted.

Post-industrial evolution
Tragically, this inventor’s story is all too familiar. As fellow system engineer Moray King, who admired and researched his work, described it, “… technical success was followed by business subversion, government corruption, threats and assassination attempts.” One standout example involved a man who, in 1941, took a sledgehammer and smashed the Radiant Energy Device to pieces, wiping out years of work and damaging beyond repair some vital parts of this extraordinary machine. Moray always feared the authorities wanted either to take his invention away from him or destroy it outright, as this and other stories prove. Eventually, under pressure, he withdrew from this work and concentrated on other interests, such as the development of Radio, which did not attract such negative attention. T.H. Moray died in 1974 and, once again, hopes of bringing Free Energy to the world passed away with him.

There are, of course, like those mentioned above, many other inspired inventors who have likewise tried to challenge and shift the dominant paradigm but without exception all have failed — such is the iron grip of vested interests and the pseudo-scientific orthodoxy that plays a crucial role in maintaining the status quo. That said, with mounting evidence and increasing public awareness this stalemate has to give at some point. According to experts in the field, when it does, the process of transition to an unlimited, clean, free form of energy production will be very quick indeed or at least relative to the previous hundred years or so; that is how long this technology has been known! It is also thought that this will radically transform life on Earth as we now experience it, similar in effect to those dramatic changes that took place with the inception of the Industrial Revolution — but this time, for the great majority of us, not just the select few in the so-called developed world. In short, a new era awaits.

Unfortunately, the current obsolescent mind-set is particularly reluctant to step aside and make way for one that better fits the times. As Nikola Tesla said: “The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence.”

The Reverend Jesse Jackson, who passed away in February, left a remarkable legacy from his 84 years of life. He was a lifelong, successful civil rights activist; an extraordinary coalition builder; one of the most prominent of Dr Martin Luther King Jr’s mentees taking his work forward; a two-time candidate for the US presidency; and above all, an untiring voice for the voiceless. Beyond his many political and social achievements, though, he left a legacy of worthiness for all young children that can still be tuned into today. Clips of a 1972 episode of Sesame Street featuring then 31-year-old Jesse Jackson show him leading a call-and-response segment with a group of young children from every ethnicity and race. The repeated refrain is “I am SOMEBODY”, which the children enthusiastically repeat back to him, again and again. Not only is Jackson’s legacy national and international, but as this episode shows, it also touches the deeply personal.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has characterized the ending of the New START Treaty on 5 February 2026, as a “grave moment” for international peace, marking the first time in over half a century that the world’s two largest nuclear powers are without binding limits on their strategic arsenals. Mr Guterres said decades of nuclear arms control agreements — from the Cold War-era Strategic Arms Limitation Talks to New START — played a crucial role in preventing catastrophe and reducing global nuclear stockpiles. “Throughout the Cold War and in its aftermath, nuclear arms control between these governments helped prevent catastrophe,” he said, adding that such frameworks “built stability” and “prevented devastating miscalculation”.

While this watershed moment reflects a dangerous security vacuum, Guterres emphasized that it also presents a critical opportunity to reimagine arms control for a modern era, particularly as both the US and Russian presidents have acknowledged the destabilizing risks of a renewed arms race. Urging both nations to translate their rhetoric into concrete action, the Secretary-General called for a return to negotiations without delay to establish a successor framework that restores verifiable limits, reduces the heightened risk of miscalculation, and strengthens global security.

Following the 2011 Fukushima disaster, Japan shuttered all its 54 reactors, including the world’s largest nuclear plant. But its subsequent struggle with high-cost fossil fuel imports and a slow transition to offshore wind has prompted a controversial return to nuclear power. Central to this strategy is the reactivation of TEPCO’s Kashiwazaki-Kariwa reactor 6, which — despite a recent alarm system malfunction delaying its restart until late February — is expected to significantly reduce annual natural gas imports while powering the greater Tokyo area. (TEPCO is also the operator of the Fukushima Nuclear Power plant.)

However, the plan faces huge public backlash; 15 years after the meltdown, many citizens remain skeptical of operator TEPCO’s safety management and fear that dormant reactors cannot withstand Japan’s ongoing seismic risks. Further exacerbating this tension are accusations that Chubu Electric, which runs Hamaoka (one of Japan’s most dangerous nuclear power plants as it sits directly above a major subduction zone where a major earthquake is expected), manipulated seismic data to downplay risks. The Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) is reviewing the reactivation of six additional reactors from other providers in Japan.

Once again, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, is being attacked with false news and specious motives, this time by certain elements of the French pro-Zionist right. Francesca Albanese is being accused, in a completely defamatory manner, of making outrageous statements against Israel as a people and as a nation.

In fact, Francesca Albanese has stated, in perfect consistency with what she has been saying for years, that “the fact that instead of stopping Israel, most of the world has armed it, provided it with political excuses, political cover, economic and financial support is a challenge. If international law has been struck at its heart, it is also true that never before has the global community been so aware of the challenges we all face. We who do not control large amounts of financial capital, algorithms, and weapons now see that as humanity we have a common enemy. The common enemy of humanity is the system that made the genocide in Palestine possible, including the financial capital that finances it, the algorithms that obscure it, and the weapons that make it possible.”

So the worst elements of the international right wing, serving financial capital, would like to silence Francesca Albanese because she courageously denounces the international system of complicity that is allowing the genocide of the Palestinian people. But Francesca Albanese cannot be silenced because she represents the moral, legal, and political conscience of the West and the whole world, which refuses to go down in history as an accomplice or cowardly spectator of a horrific crime.

We therefore express our total solidarity with Francesca Albanese, who must continue to carry out her irreplaceable and vitally important role undisturbed.

On 4 February, six Palestine Action activists were acquitted of aggravated burglary over their break-in and six-day occupation at the Elbit Systems factory near Bristol, UK, in 2024 — one of several Elbit sites in the UK that produce weapons for Israel. A conviction for aggravated burglary carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

The activists’ aims had been to disrupt the supply line through their direct action involving damage to computers and drones, whilst drawing attention to the UK Government’s complicity in the devastation of Gaza.

Clare, the mother of one of those released said: “Our loved one’s action against Elbit Systems and the state’s brutal response have exposed the true values of the Government. The Government is determined to do business with Israel and protect its weapons industry at any cost.

“Our loved ones dared to poke this beast — and no expense has been spared in policing, prosecuting and imprisoning them without trial. Imagine if the government had put the same amount of money, resources and political will into preventing a genocide.”

On 13 February, the High Court ruled that the Government’s proscription of Palestine Action as a terrorist group was “unlawful and disproportionate” although the ban was to remain in place pending further hearings due later that month.

There was great jubilation at the decision as being another major blow to the Government’s efforts to ban any protest that undermines its relationship with Israel and the arms industry.

On designating the group as a terrorist organization, on 5 July 2025, it had placed anyone who supported the group’s aims on the same level as members of ISIS or Al-Qaida. But this has deeply troubled all activists as being a first step into repression of any dissent on Israel’s genocidal actions in Gaza and the West Bank, or, for that matter, of any protest on anything.

So far, more than 2,700 people — many of them elderly or infirm and protesting peacefully — have been arrested simply for holding a banner saying “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.” Even where no such banner has been evident, mistakes have been made by overly zealous police. A notable case was that of Laura Merton who had stood on a grass verge on her own in July 2025, simply holding a sign saying “Free Gaza” and “Israel is committing genocide”. She was approached by two armed police who accused her of supporting views held by Palestine Action and threatened with arrest if she did not move. She recorded them saying: “mentioning freedom of Gaza, Israel, genocide, all of that comes under proscribed groups, which are terror groups that have been dictated [sic] by the Government.”

The police had to apologize.

In response to the ruling on 13 February, civil liberties campaign group Liberty said: “This case has exposed a deeper problem where the line between direct action and terrorism has become dangerously blurred, and this will continue to have a chilling effect on protest and free speech. People must be able to stand up, speak out, and take part in protest without fear of being labelled a terrorist and arrested.”

Proportionality is crucial. It is one thing, said the High Court, for a minister to find that a few members of a group may have committed acts that verge on terrorism, but quite another to then decide that those incidents meant the whole group should be banned.

Few high-profile sports managers speak out about what is happening to Palestinians, but, in January and February this year, Pep Guardiola continued to use his platform as Manager of Premier League football club, Manchester City, in the UK, to air his views on conflicts of all kinds, especially the genocide in Gaza. “They want [me] to remain silent, that is what the world wants, right? Be silent, and don’t say anything. I think it’s completely the opposite.”

Speaking at a charity event in Barcelona, 29 January 2026, the Catalan said: “We have left them alone, abandoned,” as he condemned global silence over the suffering of Palestinian children in Gaza.

“What is happening right now, with the technologies and advances that we have, the humanity [sic] is better than ever in terms of possibilities. We can reach the moon; we can do everything. But still, right now, we kill each other. For what? When I see the images, I am sorry, it hurts.

“…Never, ever in the history of humanity have we had the information in front of our eyes more clearly than now. The genocide in Palestine, what happened in Ukraine, what happened in Russia, what happened all around the world — in Sudan, everywhere.

“What happened in front of us? Do you want to see it? It’s our problem as human beings. It’s our problems.

“…Wanting harm for another country? It hurts me. To completely kill thousands of innocent people, it hurts me. It’s no more complicated than that. No more.

“When you have an idea and you need to defend it, and you have to kill thousands, thousands of people? I’m sorry, I will stand up. Always, I will be there, always.

“From my point of view — the justice — you have to talk.”

Recent studies have shown that certain butterflies pick up and interpret sound signals emitted by plants. Researchers at Tel Aviv University have shown that some female butterflies can hear the small crackling sounds emitted by the stems of plants that are under water stress, and will lay their eggs elsewhere on silent, healthy plants. This allows females to select the plants most likely to provide food for their larvae.

Other laboratory experiments have confirmed that some female moths are sensitive to ultrasound. When presented with two areas, one emitting the sounds of plants under water stress and the other silent, female Spodoptera littoralis moths consistently chose to lay their eggs in the silent area.

A victory on seabed mining in Norway

After intense negotiations, and in exchange for support on the budget vote, Norway’s government has just successfully postponed for four years the awarding of the first licenses for seabed mining on a section of its continental shelf. The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate estimates that this area contains 45 million tons of zinc and 38 million tons of copper. However, seabed mining could disrupt the thousands of species that live there, and also release into the atmosphere some of the carbon that has been stored there for millions of years. Significant public mobilization has forced political parties to back down.

“This decision is an historic victory. Norwegian politicians decided to listen to scientific expertise and to the strong public demand to protect the vulnerable deep-sea environment, rather than being swayed by the mining lobby,” said Karoline Andaur, CEO of WWF Norway.

NASA’s high-resolution map reveals more information about dark matter

Using data from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, scientists have made one of the most detailed, high-resolution maps of dark matter ever produced.

The existence of dark matter was first suspected by scientists around 80 years ago, when Swiss-American astronomer Fritz Zwicky observed galaxies in the Coma cluster moving so quickly that they should have been flung away, yet they were bound to the cluster by unseen matter. In the 1970s, the American astronomer, Vera Rubin, found the same issue with spiral galaxies: stars near the edge of the galaxy moved too fast to be held by luminous (ordinary) matter alone.

Dark matter passes through regular matter like a ghost and doesn’t emit, reflect, absorb or block light. Scientists discover evidence of dark matter through observing how its mass curves space itself, which in turn bends the light traveling to Earth.

Diana Scognamiglio, an astrophysicist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, said: “Previously, we were looking at a blurry picture of dark matter. Now we’re seeing the invisible scaffolding of the universe in stunning detail, thanks to Webb’s incredible resolution.

“Wherever we see a big cluster of thousands of galaxies, we also see an equally massive amount of dark matter in the same place…” said Richard Massey, co-author and astrophysicist at Durham University in the UK.

Nearly 800,000 galaxies were identified; the Webb map contains about 10 times more galaxies than previous maps of the area, and twice as many as from the Hubble telescope.

UN scientists report that the world is in water bankruptcy

A new study by the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health has concluded that the world is now beyond temporary water crises. Many natural water systems are in a state of failure or water bankruptcy.

Water bankruptcy is not just about a lack of water — it’s a chronic condition that occurs when more water is used than can be replaced by nature, causing damage to aquifers and wetlands that is difficult to reverse.

Nearly half the global population lives with severe water scarcity for at least one month a year, with many people experiencing water rationing, empty reservoirs, crop failures and more frequent wildfires, as well as sinking cities.

Subsidence often surprises people, but it’s a typical sign of water bankruptcy. When too much groundwater is pumped out, the underground structure, which absorbs water like a sponge, becomes compacted and collapses.

The Global Water Bankruptcy report, published in January 2026, indicates is the extent of the problem. The extraction of groundwater has contributed to land subsidence over more than 2.3 million square miles (6 million square kilometers). This includes many urban areas — in Asia, the most well-known examples are Jakarta, Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City.

Agriculture is the world’s biggest water user, withdrawing around 70 percent of global freshwater. About three billion people and over half of global food production are concentrated in areas where water storage is already unstable, threatening the production of food supplies worldwide.

Despite these and other issues, countries continue to increase water withdrawals so that they can expand cities, industries and farmland.

Solutions to water bankruptcy include:

• Setting water use limits that reflect how much water is actually available.
• Protecting wetlands and rivers, rebuilding soil health and replenishing groundwater.
• Supporting farmers in the transition to less water-intensive crops, and investing in water security.
• Becoming more informed through satellite monitoring of water supplies, in order to have early warnings about groundwater depletion, wetland loss, glacier retreat and water quality decline.

And last but not least: redesigning cities, food systems and economies to live within new water limits.

Lancet study finds aid cuts could undo global health gains

Researchers at The Lancet Global Health state that there have been dramatic falls in the number of young children dying from infectious diseases in the past couple of decades, driven by aid directed to the developing world. That progress is now at risk of reversal due to abrupt budget cuts by donor countries.

A Lancet study made by the Barcelona Institute for Global Health, funded by the Rockefeller Foundation and the Spanish Government, states that aid cuts could lead to more than 22 million avoidable deaths by 2030, including 5.4 million children under five.

The Trump Administration slashed aid by more than half in 2025, from $68B to $32B, and eliminated the US Agency for International Development (USAID), while in the UK, aid spending is to be reduced by £6B by 2028 to fund increased military spending. Other countries, including Germany, France and Sweden, have also announced large cuts.

Rajiv Shah, who is president of the Rockefeller Foundation and was leader of USAID for five years under former US President Barack Obama, said, “It is the dismantling of an architecture that took 80 years to build”.

Aid cuts have forced the closure of soup kitchens in war-riven Sudan, caused medicine shortages across sub-Saharan Africa, and reduced food rations in places such as Somalia and Haiti.

Gideon Rabinowitz, director of policy and advocacy at Bond, the UK network of NGOs, said, “ODA [official development assistance] funding is one of the most long-term, cost-effective public investments governments can make. It also contributes to making both the UK and the world a safer and healthier place for us all… We urge the UK and other governments to heed this evidence, reconsider these cuts and recognize that their choices are costing lives.”

A new tool to track the world’s soil health

A new tool has been developed to tackle the problem of degraded soils around the world — a difficulty that could cut crop yields by up to 50 percent by 2050. Soils in critical areas have been exhausted by overuse, the challenges of climate change or erosion, and traditional methods of analyzing their health are expensive, invasive and slow. Furthermore, at their best, current tools fail to capture soil complexity and variability across landscapes over time. The Earth Rover Program (ERP), however, is making great strides in mapping key soil properties in order to make high quality soil information accessible to anyone.

ERP, a not-for-profit organization, has adapted methods from seismology to fill in the detailed information that farmers need to make intelligent decisions about how to improve their land. Tapping a metal plate resting on the ground with a hammer sets off seismic waves that produce electrocardiogram-like sets of squiggles on laptops or smartphones. The waves pass through the first few tenths of a meter of the soil, picking up detailed information (seen as squiggles) that can be interpreted using seismological analysis.

Program scientists also use artificial intelligence — an ERP-GPT engine — to interpret collected raw information from giant data sets on soils in a way that’s accessible to farmers on the ground. Ultimately they envision developing ‘soilcasts’ that provide actionable information beyond the usual data on soil compaction — such as high salt concentrations or too little organic material.

Co-founder, Simon Jeffery, emphasizes the importance of collaboration with farmers who have worked the soil all their lives. He says: “That’s really at the heart of what we try to do — to include Indigenous and local knowledge that’s often generated by generations of knowledge of the local land.”

“Precise ‘soilcasts’ are probably a few years in the future”, says Jeffrey, but “imagine being a farmer that has a ‘soilcast’ app on their phone, and getting a suggestion … to irrigate a certain part of the plot in their land, or anticipate weather patterns for upcoming climate extremes…”, adds Tarje Nissen-Meyer, another co-founder and Professor in Environmental Intelligence at the University of Exeter in the UK.

Jeffery points out that phones themselves have appropriate sensors in them, so mobile phones could possibly be used to take the seismic signals. This would open up a world of possibilities, since phones are everywhere. Peter Mosongo, a soil scientist at the Centre for Ecosystem Restoration Kenya in Limuru, which partners with the ERP, says the true value of the ERP will come from giving farmers the information to make the “right decisions at the right time”.

He adds: “It’s an affordable technology, which means that even the poorest of the farmers are able to implement this. If they do implement this, then I see increased farm productivity, not only in Kenya or sub-Saharan Africa, but across the world.”

Amsterdam bans fossil fuel ads

The Amsterdam City Council defied powerful lobbyists in January to pass a legally binding ban on advertising fossil fuel and meat products in public spaces in the city. While several other Dutch cities had already adopted similar bans, Amsterdam is the first capital anywhere in the world to prohibit such ads through local law. Now its action has stimulated similar ad restrictions in other capital cities, including Edinburgh and Stockholm.

The prohibition affects ads for such high-carbon products as flights, gas and diesel vehicles, gas heating contracts and meat products on buses, trams, in metro and train stations and other public spaces. The chief lobbyist and the world’s largest outdoor advertising operator, JCDecaux, complained before the vote that this move would have “far-reaching financial and legal consequences”. The company reported global revenues in 2024 of close to €4 billion ($4.7 billion USD).

Advertising for fossil fuel-intensive products is being increasingly scrutinized now for its role in normalizing climate-damaging consumer behavior and undermining Government climate policies. Anke Bakker, Party for the Animals councillor and co-sponsor of the ban, indicated that there’s widespread public support for advertising bans on products that negatively impact the climate.

Study: Immigrants an economic plus

In a recent report, the conservative Cato Institute in the US analyzed the fiscal effects of immigrants — legal and illegal — on federal, state, and local budgets over 30 years. The findings directly contradict the narrative of the current US administration: immigrants are in fact an economic boon instead of a burden. Data show that in every year from 1994 to 2023, the US immigrant population generated more in taxes than they received in benefits from all levels of government. In that same period, they created a cumulative fiscal surplus of $14.5 trillion in real 2024 US dollars. Without immigrants, the US Government public debt at all levels would be at least 205 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) — almost twice its 2023 level. Further, these results don’t account for immigrants’ indirect contributions (sales tax, etc) to economic growth, and therefore represent the lower range of positive effects. In fact, the authors of the paper write that immigrants may have already prevented a fiscal crisis.

As elaborated in Part One of this article, the neoliberal system that the ultra-rich support is based on hoarding and accumulation. In this second part we will explore a few avenues that could be activated to counter the hegemonic grip of the billionaires over the lives of the masses. One possible lever to activate is to become aware of their system of hoarding capital and not to surrender to their will to accumulate at every opportunity.

Make known their deeds, counter their intentions
A good example is the recent attempt by Elon Musk to acquire Team For The Planet (TFTP)¹, a start-up first considered to be a promising future champion of energy and industry. In his quest for acquisitions of strategic assets in Europe, the famous billionaire had targeted TFTP, offering a huge amount of money to the present shareholders. Supported by Donald Trump, Musk’s campaign of acquisitions aims to slow down the development of alternatives to petroleum technologies, by buying them up (and probably ceasing their development).

All the issues addressed by TFTP fall within Musk’s target: waste treatment, reducing fuel consumption for maritime navigation, electrification and massive decarbonization of buildings, and others. Ultimately, ‘The offer you can’t refuse has been refused’ was the headline in French newspaper Le Monde a few months ago. The TFTP’s aggressive attempt at a takeover bid failed. The small shareholders resisted the temptation of big money and of letting the very rich acquire everything they want.

One important action point in this respect is to make known to the general public on a wide scale the attempts at acquisitions and the underlying intentions of the very rich, using social media and other similar means. Despite their egotistical love of exposure in the media, billionaires hate it when their greed is put on public display, revealing a much less pleasant side of their nature compared to their official persona.

The strategy of informing the general public also applies to other activities of the billionaires, for example, the incessant use of their private jets in the aftermath of Covid. Some civil society groups created computer applications to track private jets, so that any specific jet of a given billionaire could be traced in real time, thus revealing publicly their commitment, or not, to the part they play in reducing CO₂ emissions, contrary to official speeches on the need to reduce pollution caused by air traffic. It was Jack Sweeney, a student at the University of Central Florida, who initiated this movement of publishing on social media the tracking of celebrity private jets. Sweeney was included in the Forbes 2024 list of the most influential Americans under 30 in consumer technology.

The uninhibited power of the ultra-rich is reflected in their ostentatious display of wealth, and their total contempt for the general public. However they prefer that the secretive part of the strategies they deploy remains in the shadows. Thus it is of the utmost importance to make known their deeds and actions.

Tax the rich
The idea of taxing the rich on their assets and their incomes is gaining ground all over the world. Most of them hate this very idea, with a few notable exceptions. Thanks to widespread information campaigns in both social and mainstream media, it is known around the world that the very rich pay an effective tax rate which is lower than that of many ordinary workers and households. Despite the cult of wealth in countries like the USA, many citizens have become aware of this outrageous situation: that while the average income of the middle and working class members has been stagnating, or worse, the income and assets of the very rich, have increased stupendously in the last ten years . A strong sense of injustice is what needs be awakened among the masses. So many people fail to understand the mechanisms by which those at the top of the social pyramid keep rising further up to the heavens while the vast majority of their fellow citizens experience a daily struggle to make ends meet. One consequence is that they become easy prey to far right politicians who will not miss an opportunity to scapegoat migrants and other vulnerable groups.

The only way forward is to implement progressive taxes on incomes, but also on assets.

In France, the ‘Zucman tax’ ² has been recently debated at the Parliament. The central idea of this project is to enforce a tax of 2% on the value of total assets above 100 million Euros. A well-known trick of the very rich, is to transfer their assets to privately owned holdings located in tax havens, via shell companies. In this way, they legally escape taxes on dividends and incomes. They use similar tricks in order not to receive their dividends (thus not paying the related income tax — usually they borrow from banks and offer their assets as collateral). The very rich reacted strongly against the implementation of the Zucman tax, but the underlying facts are now well-documented and known. The very rich cannot hide under the spotlight, thus their temptation to look for authoritarian regimes which will protect their assets.

Likewise in the US, Senator Bernie Sanders made known that trillions of USD of tax exemptions have been granted by the Trump administration to the billionaires, whilst millions of ordinary citizens lost their health insurance. A war of the very rich oligarchy against the people is in progress. The only way to reverse it is to make known the results of these actions, and to tax the very rich more fairly as a measure of creating justice.

Tax the financial transactions
In an economic world dominated by financial powers (banks, hedge funds, equity funds etc) and the stock markets, there is no hope of reversing this situation while profits and dividends are not properly taxed. It must become less lucrative.

Until now, all attempts, the Tobin tax and the like, have failed because the super rich have succeeded in preventing such efficient measures from being implemented by using their influence and their grip on the politicians of the world. It is of course particularly true in the US where donations to politicians by the millions have been made legal.

The fact that many nations use tax havens for their own affairs does not help. Governments, banks, stock market champions, speculative funds and the very rich are linked in a network of mutually interwoven self-interests which prevents any deep transformation. It is estimated by civil society groups and by many economists that at least USD 100 billion worth of tax is lost every year. How can this be reversed? By making known these facts as widely as possible so that it becomes impossible for the billionaires to hide any longer. An educated public opinion is an absolute necessity, and is the most effective way to shine a revealing light on the covert practices of the ultra rich.

The measures detailed above involve a serious focus on the world’s tax havens. At the beginning of the 1980s, the neoliberalism movement gained strength with the leadership of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and US President Ronald Reagan. The wave of liberalization they advocated brought about the free movement of capital and the unfettered and unchecked repatriation of dividends and profits. Now we see that international regulations must again be negotiated and implemented.

Cut the connection between political connivance and corruption of public administrations
The power of the richest people is seldom the result of isolated endeavours. It very often goes hand in hand with a strong connection to the political world. The political decisions which determine the economic, tax and financial rules and conditions are expected to favor the rich. This has to do with the discreet corruption that exists, in particular in so-called democratic nations.

The very rich not only funnel wealth³, they also funnel power, thus undermining democracy and leading to an oligarchy where people are no longer ‘citizens’ but rather ‘resources’ — useful … or useless.

The very wealthy extend their political connections to government agencies and ministries
The following is an illustration of these strong ties: both the French Parliament and the Senate recently voted in a new law to levy tax on “Cum-Cum” dividends⁴. The Minister of Economics and Finance was ordered to implement it, to the great displeasure of the banking industry. Yet nothing happened. Exasperated by the situation, the Senate’s budget General Rapporteur made an unannounced visit to investigate the Ministry of Finance in June 2025 in compliance with his democratic right to carry out on-site and document checks. What he discovered was appalling: the decree that had been passed in order to close the Cum-Cum fraud mechanism had been rewritten almost in its entirety by none other than the French Banking Federation (FBF). The government, on the instructions of the FBF, added non-implementation clauses that reopened the loophole and protected a scheme estimated at 33 billion Euros in lost tax revenue between 2000 and 2020. What this means in effect is that the FBF infiltrated the Ministry of Finance, acting directly at the heart of the system to serve its own interests despite democratic laws.

It was later acknowledged by a French Court that Cum-Cums are a major fraud phenomenon that has allowed foreign investors to defraud the French tax authorities, with the complicity of banking establishments that — in doing so — have enjoyed remuneration.

It behoves civil society groups who act on ensuring transparency in public life, to search out and make known these facts which, otherwise, remain below the threshold of public awareness.

Fight the ‘Mindset’
Will the efforts mentioned above (and many more which could be carried out) be enough to counter and rebuff the actions of the ultra-rich on their way to complete and irreversible domination? Probably not. It is not only an issue of practical political, fiscal and financial measures, since the international liberal economic order is structured in such a way that it favors the accumulation and hoarding of riches and power.

To halt and reverse the present trend, it is necessary to understand, unveil and shed a strong light on the ‘mindset’ of the ultra-rich, and the mechanisms which lie behind their frantic race towards more wealth and more power — because it is these very mechanisms which must tackled.

Breaking the ‘Mindset’
In his excellent book Survival of the Richest — Escape Fantasies of the Tech Billionaires, Douglas Rushkoff⁵ provides a clear analysis of the mentality of the ultra-rich.

The psyche of the billionaires has gone beyond the usual spectrum of thoughts and behaviours of ordinary people.

They have their own particular fears — a set of fears which fall under one common denominator they call “the Event”. The Event is “their euphemism for the environmental collapse, social unrest, nuclear explosion, solar storm, unstoppable virus, or malicious computer hack that takes everything down.” ⁶ They anticipate that ‘something big’ will happen at some point and their life will be at risk, as the world will hunt them down. Thus their rush for safe havens in so called ‘green countries’ where they try to buy properties to build bunkers where they expect to survive (see previous article in Share International January 2026).

“Their extreme wealth and privilege served only to make them obsessed with insulating themselves from the very real and present danger of climate change, rising sea levels, mass migrations, global pandemics, nativist panic, and resource depletion. For them, the future of technology is about only one thing: escape from the rest of us.” ⁷

In other words, despite the brilliant and optimistic business plans they display to convince the world that technology will benefit society, deep in themselves they know very well the immense dangers that lie ahead of us. They could choose to play a significant part in remedying the causes leading to the forthcoming disasters, as they see them. But they choose not to, looking rather for ways to escape from the rest of humanity. As Rushkoff marvellously puts it, “they have succumbed to a mindset where ‘winning’ means earning enough money to insulate themselves from the damage they are creating by earning money in that way.” ⁸ A nihilistic race is leading the whole of humanity to disaster, but the winners of the game (like a digital game) refuse to stop the race and renounce their deeply rooted greed, despite their certainty that doomsday is just around the corner. They just hope that technology itself will save them personally, a deified technology above the law of nature.

They are immersed in what Rushkoff calls the “insulation equation”. In other words, their ‘quest’ is to “earn enough money to insulate themselves from the reality they were creating by earning money”. The richest among the rich have well understood that being a billionaire is not enough: you have to become a multi-billionaire, to reach the scale of wealth and power that might save you from the coming catastrophe (though it is pure delusion). Hence the all-out efforts of Elon Musk, Sam Altman (co-founder of OpenAI), Jeff Bezos and others to possess more than one trillion US dollars.

The race is also among the billionaires — you have to reach the next stage of the game in order to survive, as the rule of game is the ‘winner takes all’.

It is not only a neurotic attitude of egocentric sociopathic, psychopathic, powerful techno-libertarians: they know that the ‘low-level billionaires’ will eventually join the ranks of the losers. The purpose of the game is to reach the stage of ‘centibillionaires’ and then the stage of ultra-billionaires.

Needless to say that shedding any kind of empathy is an absolute requirement for potential winners in this game. Hence the recent statement made by Elon Musk: “The fundamental weakness of Western civilization is empathy.”

As highlighted by Rushkoff, “Research has suggested that after people have gained power, they tend to behave like patients with damage to the brain’s orbitofrontal lobes. That is, the experience of wealth and power is akin to removing the part of the brain ‘critical to empathy and socially appropriate behavior.’” Winners set themselves apart from the rest of us. Worse, their doomsday bunkers’ search reveals that they anticipate that the consumers and labor they are exploiting are “bound to get angry” and that would be dangerous for them. Still, instead of modifying their Mindset and promoting a fairer world, they deliberately choose to isolate themselves further and fail to renounce their privileges. Conquest, colonization, domination and extraction remain at the top of their concerns. Big multinational corporations are their new conquistadors, at the service of their enterprise to conquer and exploit. They have a need for perpetual growth. This is why ‘green capitalism’ is but a smokescreen.

What is needed is to break this growth paradigm, inconsistent with a world with finite resources. Therefore, levying huge taxes on multinational corporations for their polluting activities is a must, and so is regulation at all levels — environmental, social and fiscal. Unregulated markets favor the most powerful. It is therefore crucial to regulate again an unbridled capitalism which is driving the world to disaster, because chaos has become its new form of domination. For nations, it has to do with reclaiming their sovereignty, as a vital shift of power to the people of the world. Otherwise, tomorrow the air we breathe will be commodified into a tradeable asset and the very rich will decide who has the right to breathe and who has not. They will consider it to be their natural right, their normal privilege and, if any tiny trace of empathy might cause them to question their behaviour, the power of the Mindset would quickly abolish it under the justification of pursuing the race to the top. They are piling up bets, from one level to the next (they call it ‘going meta’). More and more moving from real world assets to digital and abstract assets (derivatives today, tomorrow it could be human DNA), to fuel the Ponzi game which, if it is were to be stopped, would result in a dizzying fall.

The planet is not a commodity, humanity is not a commodity. It is the very rich who have to adapt to the world, not the world adapt to the very rich.

Share International: After the world wars we said “Never again”. We put in place the United Nations, and various institutions, organizations and many countries signed treaties. Now we see the deliberate destruction of those treaties, with the US, for instance, pulling out of a more recent treaty to do with climate change. We apparently pay scant attention to anything like human rights, just ordinary human rights — I include in that, the very basic ones, for example, as you see in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, simply the need for food, shelter, healthcare, education, etc, and a decent planet to inhabit. It seems that without being challenged, we are seeing the deliberate destruction of many of these treaties and organizations and so on. The United Nations is ridiculed, as we just saw very recently again, by Mr Trump. What would your advice be to people looking for solutions — not only in the States, but to find a way back to equality and sanity?
Richard Wolff: Well, my answer won’t surprise you. My parents are European. My father was French. My mother was German. I speak French and German because I learned it as a child at home. So, yes, I’m an American; I was born here, but I have half a foot in Europe. For me, therefore, your question is one that’s in my mind all the time: that in a way, the decline that I’m living through is most extreme in Europe. Europe is unique. It’s a testimony to the greatest works of art and at the same time to the greatest acts of barbarism. As Walter Benjamin said, all great works of art are also wrapped up with extreme barbarism. The worst wars in the world, World War I and II, in which mostly European countries participated, slaughtering one another on a scale rarely matched in human history anywhere else, to their horror, and to their discredit.

On the other hand, when those wars were over, they did try to set up a League of Nations after World War I, and they did try to set up the United Nations after World War II. They have in them constructive, but likewise destructive, components and elements. If you want to draw a lesson, you then have to ask yourself: what was it about the constructive elements that created a League of Nations? What was it in them that allowed them to create a United Nations, and many treaties, like the treaty to stop the nuclear competition between the Soviet Union and the United States, agreements about the climate — ones that are being let lapse now?

There are many examples of what the factor was that prevented them from cumulatively giving us the world we want to live in, a genuinely multinational, multi-power world. And for me, the answer is we did not adjust our economic system. We imagined that we could have capitalism with peace. Capitalism with a certain level of equality, capitalism with a certain level of mutual respect, of big countries for little countries, and an end to the usual arrogant, patronizing attitude towards smaller countries, and on and on. And it’s just not true. That’s not available to us. I wish it were, but history has taught me that it isn’t. And it has also taught me that you have to ask the question: Can we build a multipolar world that is safe in terms of the climate? Will we collaborate to give ourselves air and water and the basics we need to survive and not destroy one another? And my answer is, I don’t know if it’s possible, but I see capitalism mostly as an obstacle. And if we had a more equitable economic system, it wouldn’t guarantee anything — I’m not claiming that — but I think it would make it easier for us to do it.

When the United States says today it’s angry at Russia for invading Ukraine, look, I don’t support what Russia did there. I don’t. But there is no way that the United States can speak like that. What did we do in Vietnam? What did we do in Afghanistan? What did we do? It’s a big, rich, powerful country invading a small one and destroying it, basically. The Russians are doing that now in Ukraine. How could you ask the Russians not to do it, given that America goes into Vietnam — and gets defeated, by the way. Learns nothing. Tries it again in Afghanistan. Gets defeated again. Learns nothing. And now we have a president who threatens Panama, Greenland, Canada, Nigeria, Venezuela. It’s like a joke. It’s like a horrible, ironic joke. Except that he is looking to the natural resources that are available there.

SI: So, President Trump is after the natural resources of various countries?
RW: No, he could buy those. No, it’s much more than that. It is, and I don’t mean to frighten people, but either you learn from history or you’re condemned to repeat it. Hitler attacked Russia. That was crazy. And he learned to his horror how crazy it was. He did that because Germany’s internal problems were eroding his support. And the way to galvanize that support, at least in the short run, is to do something foreign, to mobilize nationalism.

Look at the role of the anti-immigrant nonsense across Europe. I know people in France who are decent, middle-of-the-road people. Politically, they like the Socialist Party, which is a very namby-pamby thing in France, not serious at all. They’re ferociously anti-Arab and anti-Muslim and believe horrible, prejudiced junk. And I tell them it’s a short step from that to hating them over there and making up that you have to go over there so that they don’t come here. You know, there we are, and suddenly we have a rationale for a war, and in a war we all have to support our troops and blah blah blah. This is so boringly old. But I have to tell you that’s what’s going on here. Americans like that image. We’ve had it on our television. You see a boat in the water. Isn’t it appalling? Yeah, I don’t know if you’ve seen it. I have. Then you see a light coming from above that sort of blows up the boat in the water. Appalling. And then there’s music and some Government official telling you we’ve struck a blow against the drug trade. It is cheap, phony theatre. You know that. But if you need it to be great drama, you’ve got a president who is presenting it to you as such.

SI: Is the only solution possibly — you were talking about it, of course, the collapse of the problem of capitalism? Is the only solution then a collapse of the economy so that there is a severe, as they call it, ‘adjustment’ of the markets?
RW: At this point, no. Would it be? The problem now is if we have an economic catastrophe…. Let me assure you.

SI: I think that many people think that it’s on the cards, don’t they? I think you yourself…?
RW: Absolutely. I mean, if you were sitting here in New York with me, I could show you the Wall Street Journal this morning or the Financial Times from England. The economists are all speculating. We’re due for another downturn because capitalism has these downturns on average every four to seven years. So the last one was in the year 2020. And so the question, as usual, is …Okay, we’re four to seven years since then. We’re right in the middle. So we are on schedule to get one. And everybody wonders, how deep will it go and how long will it last? Those are the unknowns each time. Could it be that the thing really collapses? Yes. And then I personally would have terrible anxiety, because I know that we are years away from a population that has any idea what to do in the place of this system. So, you know, as the French say, “Faut de mieux” — for lack of anything better, they will reconstruct another capitalism. That’s what we did in the 1930s in this country. Capitalism collapsed — the Great Depression — but what was rebuilt was a regulated, improved, Government-monitored capitalism.

On the other hand, human beings are very creative, and if the conviction is there that our mistake in the past was not changing the system, well then maybe something can happen. And if you want to know what I do in my job, that’s it. That’s what I do. I’m one of the voices, I’m not the only one, thank God. I’m one of the voices whose job it is to say that the system is the problem. And system change has to be part of any viable answer.

There will come a time when humanity will look back on this time as the ‘barbarian age’. So far from the possible ideal is the present dying civilization that future men will wonder how, and for so long, were we able to sustain it.

There are many causes and factors involved in this sad situation: the long, slow, decline in man’s relation to man runs parallel to, and reflects, the growing sophistication of his weaponry. His present, triumphant ability to kill from places continents apart sets the seal on his progress to self-destruction. War has been made clinical and impersonal: no longer need the warrior witness the look of terror on his victim’s face.

In this situation, it is small wonder that man’s institutions, political and economic, reflect, in their turn, this growing alienation of men from the wellsprings of their lives. Commercialization, that burgeoning but stealthy and often hidden menace, controls now the lives and destiny of countless millions, and reduces to a cypher the God-given individuality of man. People are now statistics without purpose or needs, pawns on the chess-board of market forces and company profits.

The arid desert which we call the modern world leaves men bereft of that which makes them human: happy, creatively fulfilled, quick to respond to each other’s needs, and free. Deadly competition corrodes the human spirit and now sits in judgment on the ‘battle’ of life. Life, the Great Adventure, has been corrupted and replaced by an agonizing and unfair struggle for mere survival.

To be sure, these dire conditions are not everywhere and uniformly present but for vast numbers they represent the reality of their lives, and, unless men change direction, they can only worsen.

When Maitreya enters, openly, the world arena, He will show men that such a life of pain and struggle is not inevitable, is not their only option; that another way is theirs by right if it is their will.

He will show that already, amid the chaos and mounting greed, men are reacting against such weakening of the sacred ties of life; that great new forces are generating a new beginning, and that out of the present turmoil is gradually emerging a higher, truer demonstration of the inborn capacity of man to meet the challenges of his time and to overcome his difficulties.

Maitreya will remind men of their own high origin and destiny, and will inspire the creation of a new way of living: in harmony, in right relationship, without recourse to war or competition, in the fullest co-operation and mutual respect. Thus will it be.
