Up to the end of 2025, the online edition of Share International magazine presents a selection of items from the printed edition. Each online edition includes a complete article by Benjamin Creme's Master. Most other articles reproduced here, covering a wide range of topics, are excerpts. The online edition usually also includes a selection of Questions and Answers, Readers' letters, and photographs of Signs of Maitreya's presence. From the beginning of 2026, the printed edition is no longer being produced, but the entire magazine is available on this website.
See the full table of contents of the printed edition at the foot of the page.
From the inception of Share International magazine, Benjamin Creme’s Master provided an article every month for nearly 35 years. These were intended to be published not only at the time they were written, but also whenever appropriate according to world circumstances.
Whenever men make a determined step into right relationship, there are always others who make an equally determined step into confrontation. Multitudes work, and even die, for greater freedom and justice; while other forces threaten the peace in cynical attempts to consolidate their diminishing power. Meanwhile, humanity at large watches and trembles, witnessing with fear a renewal of ancient hatred thought to be discarded and overcome.
We, your Elder Brothers, too, watch carefully this dangerous ploy, but fear not. Common sense, We know, will force the acceptance of at least a precarious peace, with gains and losses balanced, more or less.
From now on this scenario will be repeated across the world, where the ‘great powers’ attempt to maintain or to even increase their power, knowing, however, that they must do so carefully without damaging the status quo.
For how long can the nations play this useless game? The only sensible course is to work together for peace and prosperity for all. Only in this way will they ready their peoples for the joy of peace, the prosperity of justice, and the bliss of sharing.
(Share International, June 2014)
The time for men to make their historic choice has arrived. Soon, men will come to realize that they must make a momentous decision, one which will determine the future for every man, woman and child, indeed the future for every living creature on Earth: a choice between continuous and ever expanding creativity on planet Earth, or a devastating ending of all life, human and sub-human, on our planetary home.
Man, unfortunately, has discovered the secret of the awful power which lies hidden in the nucleus of the atom and has harnessed it for war. While humanity is so separated by competition, greed and lust for power, the danger of extinction, by accident or design, is ever present. Men must therefore find a safer way to live.
So potent today is the individuality of men and nations, so divided have they become in their struggle for life, that they have lost their way and must quickly find it to survive.
Thus the Great Ones, your Elder Brothers, have sought to show the only way to peace. Only sharing and justice, We say, will bring the peace which, in their hearts, all men desire. Simple indeed is Our recommendation but, so far, difficult for humanity to grasp. Men have divine free will and are the masters of their fate. Take, We advise, the path of sharing and justice which are the garments of Brotherhood, without which a man is not fully a man.

These articles are by a senior member of the Hierarchy of Masters of Wisdom. His name, well-known in esoteric circles, is not yet being revealed. Benjamin Creme, a principal spokesman about the emergence of Maitreya, was in constant telepathic contact with this Master who dictated his articles to him.
Share International co-workers are often asked “What is Share International magazine about?” There are many ways in which that question could be answered. In 1982, just before the magazine was launched, we penned the following: “Share International brings together two major directions of contemporary thought — the political and the spiritual. Our main purpose is to make known the fact that Maitreya the World Teacher for the coming age and the Masters of Wisdom, are now among us and are gradually emerging into the public arena. At the same time, our aim is to show the synthesis underlying the political, social, economic and spiritual changes now occurring on a worldwide scale and to stimulate practical action to rebuild our world along more just and compassionate lines.”
This magazine is about life. A presumptuous claim some will say; regular readers will recall having seen the rusty doors of history unlocked, taking us, even if infrequently, back to civilizations unknown to most — Atlantis, for example. More importantly, ancient archives are opened to explain why a world of wonders such as Atlantis ultimately failed and sank beneath the waves of implacable karma. Greed, gross materialism and separativeness brought it to an end — the exact lesson we must surely consider taking to heart today. World Wars I and II can be traced back to those earlier dark times — another lesson. In other words, this publication is educational and enlightening, providing guidance for our times and beyond.
On these pages we can discover that not only is humanity One Being but that we are intertwined with all life on our planet with responsibility for the natural world. And, thrillingly, we read that our planet is part of the solar family that is our solar system, a great Life itself. Add to that the humbling fact that we have sentient benign friends and helpers on other planets within our solar system, who wish us only well and serve to save us from ourselves within the limits of karmic law.
This magazine is about the future and how we can create the world we all long for. “We all” refers to all of humanity — that is to say, those who yearn for a new way of being and living. These pages hold the key to the future since we are privileged to read Maitreya’s wisdom and teachings, the words of a Master as a way-shower and those of a senior disciple working in close rapport with his Master. What better advice and help could one wish? …
Simply the fact of Their existence is a basis for hope enough to carry one forward into service for the world and the Plan — as much of it as may be accessible to us. Just the knowledge that such a being as a Master exists and that there is a divine Plan, that Life has meaning and purpose is a source of hope, of love and reverence for the Life of which we are a part. Making the right choices becomes easier given the guidance available — if it is taken to heart.
That that reverence for life is broadly missing from the world today is incontrovertible. Our world is ‘not in a good place’. We are in a state of chaos and we, or those in positions of power, lurch from crisis to even bigger crisis, from regional to national conflict and from national to international tension and dangerous warmongering, militarism, and politicking that could spark worse crises. …
Maitreya and the Masters urge all who can to take up the joy of service wherever we feel called to serve. They exhort anyone who can to raise their voices and demand justice, peace and sharing. They encourage people to aim for synthesis and tolerance, to look for opportunities to work with other like-minded people to find solutions, to save the world and begin to right the wrongs. This magazine can provide the inspiration needed, it can whet the heart’s longing to help and, to quote from the Great Ones, to create “a future where no man lacks, where no two days are alike”, where life is sanctified by meaning and purpose, and where all know themselves to be gods in potential and live to express that divinity.
The following commentaries have all appeared previously in Share International publications (books and magazines). We have chosen to reprint them here, along with related questions and answers, for their relevance in today’s world.
On peace, the nuclear threat and the importance of embracing diversity while aiming at unity and synthesis
Peace is no longer an option: we have no alternative. That has to be understood, because, if there is no peace, then eventually we will destroy ourselves. A small war would become a big war. It would become a nuclear war and all the nations would disappear.
I am not writing your banner headlines at the moment. I am trying to focus your minds on the essentials: sharing, leading to justice, leading inevitably to the end of terrorism, and to world peace. Only that will do it. As Maitreya says: “There is no other course.” If we do not share, then we die, sooner or later. It is as simple as that.
It is a question of sharing and transformation of the world. That creates the trust upon which all future agreements are based. You can solve anything if there is trust. You have to create the trust, and only sharing the resources of the world will do that. Then, all the other problems — the Middle East, the problems of saving the planet itself, and so on — all of that can be dealt with when there is trust. Most of the disagreements will just disappear, dissipated in the goodwill that will flow out in tremendous potency when sharing of the resources takes place. …
All people are seeking Unity. That is why they join or form themselves into groups. At the same time, everyone wants to express his or her individuality, that unique quality of every incarnated soul. Only the kind of Unity that is natural and organic, without prejudice and rigidity, can form a proper framework for that rich diversity which makes planet Earth so interesting a home for its people. (From Unity in Diversity)
On humanity’s impact on the weather, climate, the pollution of planetary resources and humanity’s inter-connectedness with all life on Earth
The weather is affected by our attitudes. While we are in disharmony, with much confusion, war, and great discrepancies in living standards; when millions starve unnecessarily and millions more live in constant anguish and want, we set up destructive forces which inevitably affect the elemental lives whose activity creates the weather worldwide. They react inharmoniously, and earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, etc, are the result. When we come into equilibrium, they and the weather will become more predictable and ‘normal’. Questions and answers:
On the Apartheid Wall built by Israel
The world supports Israel because the world is afraid not to support Israel.
They are afraid not to support the right of the Jews to be in Israel. Israel was created by the British by default, as a result of the terror tactics of the early Israelis, by Irgun Zvai Leumi, the Stern gang and other gangs. They were terrorists who fought to get the British out of Palestine, by taking over the land, buildings and towns that belonged to the Palestinian people in 1948.
The Israelis claim that they have a 5,000 year right to the West Bank; that it was promised them by God. If all people were in the land that their forefathers were in 2,000 years ago, there would be no people where they are today. So great has been the movement of people across the world, and so great the intermarriage that has taken place, that there is no one who would be in the place where they are today.
There would be no white faces in America today under that ruling; it would be full of the Native American tribes, and that is all. South America would not be speaking Spanish or Portuguese; they would speak Aztec and Maya and the rest of the native languages. There would be a very different world.
The movement of peoples has been immense, so nobody can say: “Our scriptures say that God promised us this ‘land of milk and honey’ which is now called the West Bank of Jordan.” It belonged to Jordan and was stolen from Jordan in 1967 by a pre-emptive strike, an illegal war — like in Iraq — which lasted six days. The Golan Heights was taken from Syria, the West Bank from Jordan, and the Negev desert from Egypt in those six days. It was probably the most spectacular military victory in history, but wrong — an illegal, pre-emptive strike, which has been allowed to stand, upheld by the world, so that the Israeli people can have their “inheritance”.
At the same time, it is too late to change it. I do not believe you can dismember the Israeli state and send the people back to Russia, America and wherever else they came from. I think too great a time has passed. That is a reality that we have to accept. But it is very difficult if it is your homeland, your house, your fields, your history, to have to accept that.
I remember having a conversation many years ago in the Tate Gallery in London with a young Palestinian girl. I was neither pro-Israeli nor pro-Palestinian. I talked it out with her in terms like that. But she said: “I will never, and we will never, give up the fight for the restoration of Palestine. We will never, ever, accept the Israeli state.” That was perhaps 40 years ago when the Israeli state was not as old as it is now, not so established and powerful. Israel has now the most powerful army in the region and could be made more powerful any day by United States’ gifts and help. It is impossible to move. Some kind of compromise has to be worked out, but a compromise that is just. Nothing that is just has come from Israel since it was formed; but it will come. (Share International, January/February 2005)
On change in the United Nations
The veto and the Security Council have outlasted their usefulness, their reason for being, and must go. The United Nations must be purified of the veto and become a truly democratic assembly. It cannot be a democratic assembly until the Security Council is dissolved and the power of the veto withdrawn. Then, the voice, which my Master calls “the voice of the hope of the world”, the United Nations General Assembly itself, can be heard purely and simply and be used to set to rights the world as quickly as possible. That is a very urgent matter indeed.
Despite the present Western focus on democracy, whether people want it or not, if it does not follow the type of democracy that pertains in the US, it is not considered to be democracy, and, therefore, is seen as some form of authoritarian government.
Politicians tend to resent any kind of diminution of their democracy, but despite the present focus, the day is coming when those who care about democracy everywhere will not resent a degree of Hierarchical oversight and decision-making. Once people have come to trust the wisdom and higher knowledge of the Masters, Their oversight will be welcomed as a learning process. A new and rare state of humility will bring this about. When we see the Masters and realize how tolerant They are, we will begin to see that we are not at all tolerant. We will see that the Masters never impose Their will on humanity. When we see how patient They are and how closely They work within the Law in everything they do, we will see that the higher knowledge, the wisdom of the Masters, is something we would love to have.
Share International has a reserve of unpublished letters which were confirmed by Benjamin Creme and his Master to be genuine encounters with Masters, or with a ‘spokesperson’.
I no longer remember the date or the channel, but I have no doubt that Maitreya appeared on TV in 2007 during a lunch time news item about a demonstration for peace in the Indo-Pakistani community in London.
The camera was facing the demonstrators walking in the street. And at the end of the march, in the middle of the picture, standing head and shoulders above the other demonstrators I saw Maitreya looking exactly as He appears on the photographs taken in Kenya during his appearance there.
I exclaimed: “Oh! It is Maitreya!” but by the time I called my wife the sequence was over. I told a friend about it, who regretted that I had not mentioned this earlier and moreover that I could not remember the date or the channel in question.
Was it really Maitreya in the demonstration? Have other people been able to recognize him?
On 7 November 2007, I went to a café for a coffee before starting work. At the tables outside, there were two men standing talking. One of them looked very much like Sai Baba.
While I was sitting outside, drinking my coffee, another man came and sat down next to me while singing a Beatles song. He asked me where I was from and I told him that I lived in Crosshill, Glasgow. He that said that he lived at Bridgerton Cross, and observed that we both live on a cross and said that Jesus, too, lives on a cross, that He was alive and lived within everyone. He went on to sing some more songs and I gave him some money before parting to catch a train.
I enjoyed sitting with this man, as he seemed happy, and I felt uplifted by the meeting.
Could your Master confirm if any of these men was Maitreya or a Master?
On 21 January 2008, I was returning from a trip and went to a café at our railway station. As I proceeded to drink my coffee, a tall, sturdy man came round the corner. I noticed his wonderful aura. He smiled at me and my heart responded with love and joy. He took a seat elsewhere in the café and, a quarter of an hour later, he was about to leave, when again he smiled at me, radiating understanding and love. I asked within “Who are you?”
Five days later, during Transmission Meditation, I saw that smiling face again – full of love for a moment. Could it be that I had met the Master Jesus or Maitreya? I would be very grateful to know.
We present here phenomena which were confirmed as real and genuine ‘signs of Maitreya’s presence’ by Benjamin Creme’s Master. Further details, when available, are given in the captions to the photographs.
Oga area in Akita, Japan is known as a place where many people report to have seen UFOs. In Nyudozaki, the northernmost tip of Oga Peninsula, Akio Kamada, a restaurant owner, saw two orange balls shining brightly over the road around 7:30 p.m. on 16 September, 2003. The spheres, which looked bigger than the full moon, were about 50 meters high and about 300 meters ahead of him. They were pulsating and after a while they seemed to blend into one shape and then two or three balls appeared. Several flickering lights were seen around them. The light ball emitted something like smoke upward and some ray of light downward on the field. Besides these, he saw a big bright red ball flying fast horizontally in front of him. There was no sound during this light show. These phenomena lasted about an hour and Mr Kamada videotaped them for about 20 minutes. A few others saw these lights, too. In October 2006, Oga City Tourist Association hosted a meeting to examine this case of sighting.
(Benjamin Creme and his Master confirmed in 2004 and 2007 that they were spacecraft from Mars.)The photograph shows the patterns that appeared on 20 February 2004. The patterns appeared on the wall of the house next to ours on a day in December 2003. My mother, Kazuko Ozutsumi, found them and took some pictures. The morning sun was behind the house. The circles of light lasted about half an hour. She says she felt happy or peaceful when she looked at them. Could you please tell us whether this light miracle is authentic?
[PS The light patterns are still there now in 2024, 20 years later. At least seven other windows in our house have been similarly affected and have been reflecting light patterns for years.]
The world is experiencing more climatic disturbance than ever. To highlight the urgency of the need for change to save our planet we present a third selection of excerpts on the theme of the environment from Maitreya (Messages from Maitreya the Christ, and Maitreya’s Teachings — The Laws of Life), Benjamin Creme’s Master (A Master Speaks) and Benjamin Creme’s writings.
See first Environment compilation, Share International, June 2006; a second compilation on this theme followed in 2009. Since then the planet’s health has deteriorated further although, fortunately, our general awareness of the precarious situation has grown. Much more positive action is required to restore it and to compensate for the damage and loss we have caused. This is a major priority and a “sacred duty” in which all are needed and all can play a part.
I shall show you that the way for Man is the way of brotherhood, close co-operation and mutual trust and service. This is the only way. All else has failed. My friends, unless Man can do this, Man on this Earth will cease to be. I threaten not but simply state the truth. There is but little time left to restore the balance of nature and the world. (Maitreya, from Message No. 12)
You can be sure that Maitreya is not unmindful of the dangers to mankind if they ignore this pressing difficulty. He will urge men to work — everyone — for the planet’s restoration, and point the way to a simpler and happier life. (The Master --, from ‘The Great Mother’)
Not for nothing is it now commonplace for nations to meet to discuss these problems. Such meetings are a sign that man is becoming aware of his responsibilities as steward of the planet, and is ready to take decisions to improve his situation. Foremost among these decisions must be the readiness to share. (Benjamin Creme’s Master, from ‘Sharing for peace’)
“The love demanded of us is neither emotional nor sentimental. It is intensely practical, and expresses itself in service and cooperative activity” (The Master Djwhal Khul, The Externalisation of the Hierarchy)
If we refer to the Master Djwhal Khul’s (DK) writings in Alice A Bailey’s book The Externalisation of the Hierarchy, the present political situation looks like a repeat of the state of affairs during and immediately after the World War (1914 -1945):
“The gullibility of the average citizen, his willingness to accept what is told him if it is said loudly enough and with sufficient plausible force, is well known. The well-turned phrases of the trained politician, intent on his selfish purposes, the arguments of the silver-tongued demagogue as he exploits some pet theory at the expense of the public, and the rantings of the man with a cause, a theory or an axe to grind, all find an easy audience. Mass psychology and mob determinations have been exploited down the ages, for the unthinking and the emotional are easily swayed in any direction, and hitherto this has been turned to their own advantage by those who do not have the best interests of humanity at heart. It has been used for selfish and evil ends far more often than for good.”
Still, we fortunately cannot deny that much progress has been made (and is still being made) in the field of international cooperation, in particular under the auspices of the United Nations and its affiliated agencies. All the treaties and agreements to work jointly and concertedly for a fairer, healthier and more cooperative world, have accomplished precisely what was recommended by Hierarchy in order to develop an educational effort in favor of a Love which, as indicated by Master DK, is “intensely practical, and expresses itself in service and cooperative activity”.
But looking at the present world situation, one may wonder: are we now witnessing a failure of the progressive forces under the onslaught from retrograde forces? Will we see a world of bunker nations huddling inward, involved only in their separate national interests?
That would mean the end of any hope to reverse climate change, to end hunger, dire poverty and wars, as well as the end of justice. The identity of nations is certainly sacred, but what is at stake is global cooperation versus a wave of centrifugal reactionary conservative forces.
In Europe for example, division and separation stand at the door of one of the very few relatively successful experiences of transnational integration based on a degree of democracy, freedom and cooperation. We can certainly recognize that democracy in the European Union is far from perfect. But we must not be fooled by the intention of forces of materialism and chaos at work in the world in their attempt to break the European unity and the freedom that Europeans experience — a valuable societal asset that they take for granted. Once again, hatred, separation and exclusion are the tools used by those forces.
This opposition of reactionary forces is not totally unexpected, of course. The Masters of Wisdom, have obviously known for a long time that entrenched atavism in human consciousness would resist change. The Master DK wrote in 1943: “the spiritual energies which will be released will inevitably evoke opposition. Selfishness and hate, with their secondary effects of greed, cruelty and nationalism are not dead nor will they die for a long time to come.”
If we have any doubt about the genuine usefulness of the European Union experience, let us go back to Master DK’s words in 1943: “A world divided into ‘blocs’ for mutual aid and economic sharing. Of this, the proposed treaty between Great Britain, France and the Benelux countries is a tentative sample, though tainted by objectionable motives, from the angle of the Hierarchy. Fear is the major factor producing this treaty, but it has in it nevertheless the seeds of hope. There is nothing intrinsically wrong in any group of nations standing together for mutual aid and economic cooperation.” …
The forces of the will-to-good must reach and maintain a high point of tension until the reactionary forces lose their grip and their strength begins to fade away. That tension can only exist if all parties linked to the will-to-good are united and keep steady in their efforts.
This leads us once again to the above-mentioned concept of ‘Love’ and its practical external aspects, as depicted by Master DK: “All types of work, all the exterior efforts of the many organisations must meet with loving cooperation and assistance. We stand in a world of endeavour as focal points for love. Our objective is the helping of the Great Ones and the rendering to Them of that intelligent assistance which will make Their plans for humanity materialize.
“When the United Nations has emerged into factual and actual power, the welfare of the world will then be assured. What is that welfare but love in action? What is the international cooperation but love on a world scale?” …
As alliances on the international scene shift and waver, and the fabric of our social contract slowly unravels, many who follow these events wonder fearfully how it will all end. Until fairly recently, we had no scientific method of analyzing and learning from world history in order to answer such questions, but Peter Turchin and colleagues have introduced a new field to the social sciences: cliodynamics, or the science of history.
In a process combining computer modeling with Big Data analytics, Turchin sought to explain cycles of political integration and disintegration — particularly the formation and collapse of nation-states. In a nutshell, by analyzing Big Data on wages, taxes, gross domestic products and sociological surveys collected by government agencies and organizations like Gallup, he and his colleagues found that important recurring patterns affect complex societies everywhere throughout thousands of years of history. One such pattern is recurrent and somewhat predictable waves of political instability brought about by the same basic factors. In his terminology, these factors are elite overproduction, popular immiseration, and the resulting breakdown of civic cohesiveness or national cooperation.
In other words, “when a state, such as the United States, has stagnating or declining real wages …, a growing gap between rich and poor, overproduction of young graduates with advanced degrees, declining public trust, and exploding public debt, these seemingly disparate social indicators are actually related to each other dynamically. Historically, such developments have served as leading indicators of looming political instability.” In 2010, Turchin wrote in a letter to Nature Journal that, based on historical records in the US, these factors should peak around 2020, creating political instability. And so they have.
Wages for the average American have stagnated, the gap between rich and poor has never been greater, university graduates serve tables while they desperately search for appropriate employment, the national debt has ballooned to over $34.5 trillion (USD), and large segments of the population do not trust the government to provide the services they need. The beauty of Turchin’s work as described in End Times is that it’s based on solid data throughout history, rather than cherry-picked examples often used to support historians’ favorite theories. …
Cliodynamics finds that during pre-crisis periods ideological consensus among the elites almost always breaks down, along with their acceptance of state institutions. There’s a general perception that the country is going in the wrong direction and that society has become vastly unjust and unequal. During these periods, divisive ideologies are most attractive, and they produce polarization, discord, and radicalization. In the US today, we see the splintering of both political parties, racial and religious division and hatred, quashed student protests, home-grown terrorist attacks, and other random outbreaks of violence. Democracy itself is under siege. …
Historically, when societies have reached the crisis point, very few have remained intact without experiencing revolution, civil war, or complete collapse. For the ones that have, the key factor seems to have been the elites voluntarily (under threat of revolution and losing everything) relinquishing some of their money and power to make the social contract more egalitarian.
Will Americans manage to avoid political disintegration, as Turchin’s research suggests is the most likely possibility? Likewise, will the UK and Germany, which Turchin notes are close behind? Although it’s impossible to predict, certain unique characteristics of this time may combine to avert a worst-case scenario of civil war or revolution. Certainly, changes need to be made, as present-day American institutions and structures have become dysfunctional, but a peaceful transformation would be preferable to a violent one. …
Could Maitreya’s advent mark the end of the Age of Empires and usher in an age of planetary consciousness and cooperation? Communications are global and virtually instantaneous, and we have a global institution — the UN General Assembly, which, when reformed to be truly representative of the brotherhood of nations, could lead the way. It’s up to us, of course, to choose between disintegration or change.
Significantly, the timing of Maitreya’s appearance depends to a large degree on our creating the necessary conditions for that to occur: primarily, a measure of peace in the world, the principle of sharing beginning to control economic affairs, and the energy of goodwill starting to manifest. It’s apparent that today’s world fails to meet these conditions, and so it will take some work on humanity’s part to bring Maitreya forward publicly.
As daunting as the world situation seems today, though, our unique circumstances offer hope for a positive outcome: the energies of the Age of Aquarius, the countless groups working for the common good, and Maitreya’s presence in the world. With that in mind, we should all be encouraged to work fearlessly and ceaselessly for sharing, justice, and peace everywhere; to transform looming disintegration into a new, cooperative civilization.
