How shall we recognize him? How shall we be sure that the one we see is indeed the Christ? There are many men in the world today who are giving very sound instruction, very beautiful teachings, and some of them are claimed to be the Christ by their followers. We know there are, today, many people who claim to be the Christ or Maitreya; and we know, too, that there is a prophecy which says that before the Christ comes there will be many false Christs, false teachings about the Christ, and that: “if someone points to a man and says, ‘that is the Christ, lo, here! or lo, there!’ do not believe him.”

No one will point to the true Christ and say: “That is the Christ.” The recognition of the Christ is up to each one of us, individually. The Christ is the Embodiment of the energy we call the Christ Consciousness or Christ Principle, the energy of the Cosmic Christ. It is released into the world for us by Maitreya, the Christ, and to the degree that it manifests in us, we will recognize him.

He will show that our political and economic life has to make a complete change of direction and become the spiritual activity which essentially it is; that our educational systems, our science and culture, should, again, take on a new, spiritual, connotation. He will speak across the whole range of human activity, and it will be by the breadth of his teaching, the universality of his viewpoint, that we may recognize him; by his tremendous spiritual potency, his extraordinary aura of purity, sanctity; by his obvious love and capacity to serve; by all of these we may recognize him.

Many people will follow the Christ without recognizing him, without even knowing he is in the world. But they will follow that man because they believe in what he is saying, in what he stands for: sharing and brotherhood, justice and freedom for all mankind. He will be the spokesman for a certain type of group thinking along these lines. Not the Preacher of old. He has said that many will be perhaps surprised at his appearance. He comes, not as the Head of the Christian, or any other church, for that matter. It may be that the orthodox Christian leaders will be among the last to recognize the Christ. He is not the one and only Son of God, but the friend and Elder Brother of Humanity.

The radio and television networks of the world will be linked up, and he will make his appeal, his call, to mankind. By mentally overshadowing all mankind simultaneously, he will come into telepathic rapport with all humanity everywhere, and we shall hear his words silently entering our minds, in our own language. We in the United Kingdom shall hear him in English, the French in French, the Russians in Russian, and so on. It is in this way that we shall know that he is truly the Christ. Thus will be repeated, only now on a world scale, what happened at Pentecost; and in celebration of this event, Pentecost will become one of the major festivals of the new world religion which the Christ will eventually inaugurate. Our response to his call will determine the future of the world.

His teaching will be released in phases, each phase being relevant to the needs of humanity at each stage over the next 2,350 years or so. In the first place, we will find that he will lay the emphasis on the oneness of humanity, on the fact of the human soul, and on the need for sharing and right relationships. He will teach, again, the Law of Cause and Effect and its relation to the Law of Rebirth, showing the need for harmlessness in all relationships. When these ideas have permeated society and brought about the changes in our political, economic and social structures, he will set about the inauguration of the new world religion, bringing together the approaches to God of the East and the West, God immanent and God transcendent. He will teach the Mysteries of the Path of Initiation, the scientific path to God. Initiation will be central to the new world religion. Above all, he will reveal a new aspect of God. This is the New Revelation which he brings.

In the first place, he will be concerned with inspiring humanity to create the conditions in which world peace can be guaranteed. He will show that this requires, above all, the acceptance of the principle of sharing. This will insure a harmonizing of the imbalance caused today by the tremendous discrepancies in the living standards of the developed and the developing nations. His immediate proposal will be to launch a crash programme of aid to save the starving millions in the Third World. Then, over the next few years, the restructuring of society along more just lines will gradually form the basis for a new civilization. He will inspire humanity to create the new world. His initial task is really one of reconstruction.

It is very difficult to crucify someone whom you cannot see, and Maitreya can appear and disappear at will. You could fire a cannon at him, an 18-inch shell, and it would just bounce off him and fall to the ground. He created his own body, and if you can create your own body you can keep it intact. He is inviolable.

Yes. The whole of the Age of Aquarius (the next 2,350 years).

The outstanding quality of the energy of Aquarius is synthesis, hence the result of its action will be a blending and fusing of the present divided and separative humanity into a whole. A new sense of oneness (with all creation) will replace the present sense of separation. In the social and political sphere this will demonstrate as brotherhood, justice and sharing. The present fear and confusion will give way to a new freedom and sense of meaning and purpose in life. It will be an age in which humanity ― for the first time as a whole ― realizes and manifests its inherent divinity. Cooperation will replace competition; tolerance and goodwill will supersede division and hate.

The answer, of course, is that we can’t be sure. But it’s up to us to make sure he is not rejected. His is the task to lead and guide, but we willingly must follow. Otherwise he can do nothing. His hands are tied by Law. The decision rests with humanity. The decision is ours, but as I explained, we have no alternative but to go forward through sharing and cooperation, and this is what the Christ will teach. Humanity is now absolutely up against it. It is in an impasse and there is no way out; it is staring mankind in the face. So much so, that all the uneducated and most of the educated peoples of the world are now terrified of the future. They see ahead of them nothing but destruction of one kind or another: destruction through pollution, ecological destruction; through famine; destruction through over-population; through nuclear war; or a combination of all of them.

There is no way out at all. The Christ comes with a set of proposals which entail a complete redirection of human thinking and feeling. If we follow these, we go forward. We can reject them. It’s up to us. He said recently: “Many will accept me, but not all. Nevertheless, my Army of Light will surely triumph.”

And a long time ago, he said: “The end is known from the beginning,” and you can assume that, though one cannot say (I cannot say, with any authority), “Yes, he will not be rejected, this time. He will be accepted by mankind,” I know that he has come at the earliest possible moment ― but not too soon. There has been preparation going on for many years. The externalization of the Hierarchy actually started as far back as 1860. Certain disciples came in, such as H.P. Blavatsky and others, who have been releasing to the world the New Age teachings. I don’t mean just the occult teaching. I mean new ideas of philosophy, of politics, of economics, etc. Mankind is now adult, and is prepared in an altogether different way than before (when Christ came in Palestine). The Piscean experience, the spread of education throughout the world, modern communications, have made it possible for a Teacher to come and speak to a really adult world for the first time. So the hope is ― and I would say the almost certain fact is ― that mankind will not reject him.

Note from Benjamin Creme: In many of the Messages, since the above answer was given, Maitreya himself makes it clear that he is in no doubt about man’s response. In Message no. 11, he says: “My heart tells me your answer, your choice, and is glad.” In Message no. 65, he is explicit: “Therefore, my friends, have no fear that mankind will reject me, my plans are safe in your hands.” In Message no. 77: “I know that within men sits a divine Being, whose Plan it is that love and justice should triumph. This being so, the end is assured.” In Message no. 78: “But, my friends, I know beforehand your answer and choice. Through your love ― the love in your heart for your brothers ― have no fear, my dear ones, you will choose correctly.”

Yes, he will become a known spokesman; both the stimulus behind, and the spokesman for, a certain type of group-thinking, concerned with sharing, brotherhood, justice; covering the political, the economic, the social and also the philosophical, religious and scientific fields ― across the whole gamut. It is really somebody talking across the whole range of human needs that you should look for. He will be the spokesman for that type of group-thinking, of those who are enunciating the principles which have to govern our life in the new age: Sharing, Justice, Freedom, cooperation, Goodwill. These are the principles which we will come to realize are the principles of Aquarius. In one word you can call it synthesis, universality.

For a number of reasons. One is that many people would not know who Maitreya is. He wishes to be introduced to the world as a man among men, but who has ideas which, so far, most people have not thought about for the reconstruction of the world. In that way he does not make a division between Christians, Buddhists, Moslims and Hindus. If he was introduced as the Christ, say, then Christians would be divided. Some would say “Hallelujah! The Christ is here!” Others would say “He is not the Christ, he is a fake, he is the anti-christ.” Or, if they liked his ideas, they might accept him whoever he was. If they do not like his ideas, which many fundamentalist Christians, in my experience, do not, even without seeing him ― they are convinced already that he must be the anti-christ, they do not like the idea of sharing, they do not seem to like justice and peace in the world ― they will automatically reject him.

Because he has not come down in a cloud into Jerusalem as they expect, they have a prejudice from the start. If he called himself the Christ, there would be this huge division among Christians as to who he was. If he called himself Maitreya then the Buddhists would be divided. (I know dozens of people who call themselves Maitreya. They are no more Maitreya than you or I.) If he comes out as a man among men, people without prejudice can approach what he is saying and respond to it, yea or nay, without being influenced by the idea that he is the Christ, or Maitreya Buddha, or the Imam Mahdi, or the Messiah. These names get in the way of their spontaneous response to the ideas. We have to think the ideas are good ideas; we have to want sharing and justice and peace, and if he is advocating a way towards sharing and justice and peace we would be inclined to say “Good thinking. I would like to talk more with that man, I would like to ask him a few questions.”

Many people, particularly Christians, see him as the head of the Christian Church, but in fact this is not the case; the Master Jesus is the head of the Christian Churches. The World Teacher is the stimulus behind a whole range of activities, not only religion. He is as much the stimulus behind the scientific discoveries and the educational concepts which are today engaging men’s minds as he is with religious matters. He will eventually inaugurate the new world religion which will engage a large part of his energy, but he is the recipient and transmitter of a great rainbow of energies from various sources which stimulate many different facets of our life.

One of his major tasks will be the synthesizing of humanity through the energy of the Avatar of Synthesis and the energies of Aquarius, and through galvanizing the United Nations Assembly, bringing the world together and filling it with a sense of its wholeness. That is a great and continuing task, which will be spread over a good many years. When we have really set the world to rights he will begin to inaugurate the new world religion.

[1996] Almost weekly, Maitreya appears miraculously ‘out of the blue’ at fundamentalist, orthodox religious meetings around the world, always in a form that the group can recognize — if they are Hindus, as the people’s idea of what Krishna will look like; if Jews, as their idea of the Messiah; if they are Muslims, as their idea of the Prophet, the Imam Mahdi or the Messiah; if Buddhists, their idea of Maitreya Buddha. He can change his appearance at will. He can be old or young, man or woman, fair or dark.

In this way, everyone can identify with him. He speaks to the gatherings in their own language, and then disappears again. He appeared in this way in June 1988 in Nairobi, Kenya, before 6,000 people who recognized him as the Christ. The event, through photographs, was seen on CNN and BBC television and other world media.

[1994] The people before whom he appears are in every case fundamentalist Christians of one persuasion or another; denominationally they vary tremendously, but the consistent factor is that they are all extremely dogmatic in their beliefs. Maitreya appears to them to ‘soften them up.’ These are the groups from whom, throughout the world, he expects the major opposition and rejection. If he appears as the World Teacher and they are expecting the Teacher in their own terms ― as the Christ, Maitreya Buddha, Krishna, the Imam Mahdi, the Messiah ― with their very fixed views they would be inclined to reject him.

The most important thing is the creation of the healing waters, which is done first. When Maitreya has magnetized the waters, in due course ― it might take a few weeks ― he finds a group of fundamentalists in a town nearby and appears before them. He speaks to them in their own language and many healings take place during the process. He does not say: “I am Maitreya”; “I am the Christ”; or “I am the Imam Mahdi,” he just appears, out of the blue but in a form which they will recognize — as he did in Nairobi in Kenya, on 11 June 1988, an appearance of which we have photographs.

Maitreya leaves it to the groups, in the thoughtform in which he has appeared to them, to recognize him or not. Some of them will say: “Beware, it could be the anti-christ: before the Christ comes, the anti-christ is coming.” That is why they do not speak out, and if they do not speak the media does not speak. Occasionally at these meetings there have been representatives of religious newspapers who do not write about it. Why not? I think they do not know what to do with this information: it is too ‘hot’.

Either they believe it is the Christ or they believe it is the anti-christ; or they are mystified because he has not said who he is. Perhaps 80 per cent of the people believe they had an experience of the Christ, or the Mahdi, or the Messiah ― whomever it happened to be ― and they are perfectly content to accept that and just wait for something more to happen in connection with it. That must do something to their awareness, even if they do not talk about it except among themselves. When eventually they see Maitreya on television they will say: “That’s the one who appeared to us ― perhaps he is all right after all; perhaps he is not the anti-christ.”

The appearance in Nairobi was reported and photographed because the editor of the Swahili edition of the Kenya Times was present and wrote it up. It was picked up by various media and was a two-day wonder around the world. The media in general, as ordinary men and women, are deeply, profoundly sceptical, and professionally, not only sceptical, but cynical in the extreme.

There is not only one ‘false Christ.’ There are several well-known teachers who believe themselves, or are believed by their followers, to be the Christ, and from my personal experience alone I know of scores of deluded people who are convinced that they are the Christ. Discrimination and spiritual recognition are the key. I suggest that on the Day of Declaration, by the overshadowing and telepathic rapport which he will establish with all humanity simultaneously, you will have no doubts about his true status. A tree is known by its fruits and it is by his love, wisdom, spiritual potency and work for humanity that you will recognize Maitreya and know him for what he is.

(1) There are no plans for a one-world government. The UN will become (as it is now to some extent) a debating chamber to air and settle international problems. (2) No other such organization is planned. (3) Maitreya will not ‘head up’ any organization, but will act only in his capacity as World Teacher.

This is a question often put to me by fundamentalist Christians. A tree is known by its fruit, and the Christ must be known by his words, his deeds, and, above all, his energy. If one man could achieve world domination (which, in today’s world, I very much doubt) then it could only be someone of the stature of the Christ. The fundamentalists, of course, are afraid that Maitreya might be the anti-christ, a fallacy with which I have dealt many times, here and elsewhere. On the Day of Declaration, I submit, everyone ― even the fundamentalists ― will know, through the overshadowing of the minds of all humanity ― a Pentecostal experience for all ― that Maitreya is the Christ.

According to the Ageless Wisdom, the anti-christ is not one individual who lives at a certain point in time, but is an energy released before the advent of the Christ. It comes to pave the way for the building forces of the Christ by destroying the old crystallized ways that block new growth for society. While the anti-christ is an energy, it does manifest through individuals and has done so at different times throughout history, most notably through the emperor Nero in Roman times, and more recently through Hitler and some of his closest associates. With the defeat of the Axis powers during World War II, the work of the anti-christ energy was completed for this age and will not manifest again for over 3,000 years.

The anti-christ does exist, not as an individual who comes before the Christ, but as an energy. Fundamentally, the anti-christ is the First, or Will aspect of God, in its destructive form. It is that energy which destroys thus making way for the new energies of the Christ. The anti-christ energy sweeps away the old, outworn forms and prepares the way for the incoming, creative energy.

This destructive force has already worked out through the disasters which have devastated the planet: world wars; the starvation of millions every year; earthquakes and other natural disasters.

Yes.

None of them. It is not Maitreya’s task to stimulate the destruction of any of the major religions ― quite the contrary. His main work, in the first place, will be to stimulate economic, political, and social change. When he does eventually inaugurate the new world religion based on initiation, its adherents will be drawn, as is already the case, from all religions.

In The Reappearance of the Christ, the Master DK says quite emphatically that he was talking about the Christ’s physical appearance in the world. This, he said, was one of the most important statements in the book. The Christ, he emphasized, will appear in a physical body, visible to all.

This question, I think, arises from the mistaken idea that an Avatar (in this case the Christ) is some kind of abstract Principle which might embody itself in many individuals simultaneously. Many people see the Christ in this sense, separating the man ― Maitreya ― from the Christ Principle which he embodies, and looking for a multiple manifestation of the Christ. The Christ Principle does indeed manifest through millions today, but this is only one of the three ways in which Maitreya promised to appear ― on mental, astral and dense physical levels. My submission is that all three forms of his manifestation have taken place.

Take a look at the world and decide for yourself. How do you think we are doing with the Christ Principle, given the nuclear threats, the starving millions, the thousand million poor? We are indeed fortunate that, for the love of humanity, the man, the Son of Man, has graced us with his presence. Furthermore, the primary reason for his physical return is to lead his group, the Spiritual Hierarchy of Masters, back into the world.

The time for that is not yet. All the Masters take a male body in their last incarnation, and there are definite, energetic reasons why this should be so. A Master is a totally soul-infused personality. There is no such thing as gender — male or female — on the soul level. There is only polarity of energy, positive and negative polarities of one energy. The Masters have brought both of these into complete equilibrium, so, in a sense, they are neither men nor women. They take a male body for its energetic qualities. The relationship between spirit and matter on this planet at this time is such that they must anchor powerfully in the world the positive aspect of that energy, as a balance to the negative aspect as it expresses itself in matter. In about 350-400 years time, this will change. It is a gradual process, and that energy relationship between spirit and matter, as we term them, will change sufficiently to allow Masters to take female bodies too, which then they will.

My Master has said: “Verily, verily! Humanity has for long suffered from the disease of speculation.” The symptoms of this disease are world poverty, crime, drug abuse, violence and war. The basic cause is age-old human greed based on separation and fear. Under the leadership of the Christ, the Lord Maitreya, the Masters will help humanity to see this and evoke from them a greater sense of their interdependence. The very presence of Maitreya, known to all, will go far to make this transformation possible. When humanity gains that sense of interdependence it will lose its fear and thus its greed. Naturally this will not take place overnight but nor will it be too long delayed. The economic collapse and the transformation which will ensue will prove a potent teacher. The relative strictures of a transformed economy will bring to humanity a new sense of reality, and in this way the changes will be logical and acceptable.

No. Both capitalism and communism are man-made, but in response to ideas sent into the mind-belt by Hierarchy. There are no plans to ‘unite’ these two systems. The key to their eventual correct relationship lies in the acceptance of the principle of sharing.

First of all, I am sure it is not the aim of communism that “we all become equally poor” but simply equal. Whether that equality is always achieved is another matter, but surely social justice is a laudable aim, and if it were allied with individual freedom I think few in the West could quarrel with it. It would seem that Mr Gorbachev has set in motion precisely such a move towards greater individual freedom.

To my mind, the need for sharing is self-evident: there are so many people in the world, around six billion, with varied requirements depending on the size of their nation and self-sufficiency. These nations grow or produce so much food, raw materials, energy, technology, often far greater than their individual needs, and seek to sell their surplus (there is an estimated ten per cent surplus of food in the world).

Many of the poorer (usually ex-colonial) nations are far from being self-supporting and often cannot produce even enough food for their people who, as a consequence, become the starving millions of the world.

Is it not simple common sense ― not to mention simple Christian (or Buddhist or Jewish) compassion ― for the rich nations to share surpluses with the poor nations and so prevent the misery ― and the crime ― of starvation in the midst of plenty?

The Christ says, in Message No. 82: “When you share, you recognize God in your brother.” and in Message No. 52: “Take your brother’s need as the measure for your action, and solve the problems of the world. There is no other course.” He should know.

True happiness lies not in democracy or communism, but in an awareness that is free of any ideology.

Yes, indeed. Absolutely. It is not primarily as a religious leader that he is coming. You may look for him rather as an educator in the widest sense of the word, advocating changes in our political, economic and social life. All of these are fundamentally spiritual. Spirituality does not refer to religious matters only. Everything that lifts men above their present level, whether on the physical, emotional, mental or intuitional level, is spiritual. We must broaden our concept of what is spiritual in order to recognize the Christ.

He comes to show that the spiritual life can be lived in every department of human living ― not alone in the religious field; that the scientific path to God, about which he will teach, is wide enough and varied enough to accommodate all men. Everyone, in the future, will come to realize the spiritual basis of life, and will seek to give it expression in his work. And whereas today only the seer or the mystic knows the true meaning of reality, this will be the experience of all men, whatever their way. Not all men are religious; religion is a way, a specific way.

The Christ will show that all of us can come to an awareness of the ways of God. He will show the path to that, the scientific path, the path of initiation; and under the guidance and stimulus of the Christ and his disciples we shall know God ― truly know and see God, in this coming age. Large numbers of humanity will stand before the Hierophant, the Lord of the World Himself, and in doing so will see the Face of the Father, the Face of God. This is an occult fact and is the promise given by the Christ to the world. This will be his main function in the coming age, to lead humanity into the Spiritual Kingdom, the Kingdom of Souls, or the Kingdom of God ― which already exists, and has always existed, as the Masters and initiates of the Hierarchy. Under the guidance of the Christ all of us will enter that Kingdom. This is his mission, to establish the Kingdom of God, outwardly, in the world. He will fulfill that mission if we respond to the need of the time, which is the transformation of society along more spiritual and just lines.

The disciple Jesus, who is now the Master Jesus, was born in Palestine as a third degree initiate. The five major Initiations which take one to Liberation have their symbolic enactment in the life of Jesus. That is what the Gospel story is really about. It is a very ancient story and has been presented to mankind again and again, in different forms, long before the time of Jesus.

He was, and still is, a disciple of the Christ and made the great sacrifice of giving up his body for the use of the Christ. By the occult process of overshadowing, the Christ, Maitreya, took over and worked through the body of Jesus from the Baptism onwards.

In his next incarnation, as Apollonius of Tyana, Jesus became a Master. He lives now in a Syrian body which is some 600 years old, and has his base in Rome. He has, in the last 2,000 years, worked in the closest relation to the Christ, saving his time and energy where possible, and has special work to do with the Christian Churches. He is one of the Masters who will very shortly return to outer work in the world, taking over the throne of St Peter, in Rome. He will seek to transform the Christian Churches, in so far as they are flexible enough to respond correctly to the new reality which the return of the Christ and the Masters will create.

I am afraid that the Churches have gone very far away from the religion which the Christ inaugurated; which is to do with sharing, with love, with brotherhood and right relationship. But this monolithic institution has grown up in the name of that simple man and transformed his simple teaching into … well, you know what it has taught.

The Christ is a planetary avatar, Sai Baba is a cosmic avatar. He is a Spiritual Regent, sent into the world by the Lord of the World, Sanat Kumara, on Shamballa. A regent ‘stands in’ for the king. Similarly, a Spiritual Regent ‘stands in’ for God, for the Logos, Whose reflection Sanat Kumara is. Sai Baba embodies the energy of Love at a cosmic level (the Christ embodies this energy at the planetary level) and his work, in part, is to prepare humanity for the work of the Christ.

By awakening the love principle in humanity, Sai Baba will prepare people for the initiatory work of the Christ. As the Hierophant, the Initiator, at the first two planetary initiations, the Christ will lead humanity gradually out of the strictly human kingdom into the Hierarchy, the Kingdom of Souls, or the Kingdom of God. That is his major work in the coming age of Aquarius. These two Great Ones work together in daily contact, complete harmony and shared purpose in the evolution of mankind.

The Buddha no longer retains a physical vehicle, but dwells on the highest centre of our planet, Shamballa, which is in matter of the two highest ethers in the Gobi desert. He acts as the ‘Divine Intermediary’ between Shamballa and Hierarchy, bringing the Plan from Shamballa to the three Great Lords of Hierarchy (the Christ, Manu, and Lord of Civilization) Who approximate it to the possible and work it out through humanity. He is the brother of Maitreya. They were among the first group of Earth humanity to ‘achieve,’ that is, take initiation, way back in early Atlantean times. They have been at the forefront of humanity ever since. The Buddha is deeply engaged in the process of Maitreya’s mission as World Teacher.

The Christ does indeed bring the Power or Will aspect of God into the world. In the last two thousand years since his advent in Palestine through Jesus, he has become the Embodiment of the Will, as well as the Love and Light, of God. Through his advocacy, humanity’s little separate self-will will come into correct alignment with the Will of God for the first time. As far as the individual disciple is concerned, this Will aspect only makes itself felt around the time of the third initiation. Its energy comes from the monad or divine spark, whereas the energies of Love and Light come from the soul. To the purist, of course, all three aspects come from the monad, but at-one-ment with the soul brings in Light and Love alone. Quite apart from this, of course, there will be many further Avatars in humanity’s long evolution to perfection.

When he came before in Palestine, the Christ found that there were not enough servers, disciples, in the world through whom he could work, who could have prepared the way for him, and through whom he could construct the new civilization of the time. Also, he had not yet that deeper relationship and at-one-ment with the Will aspect of God (which in the last two thousand years he has achieved) necessary for him to complete his task. He is now an Embodiment of the Will as well as the Love aspect of God.

In 1922, therefore, he inaugurated the New Group of World Servers, which is the most important group existing in the world, although it has no outer form or organization. Each member of it is related subjectively (i.e. on the inner, soul level) to Hierarchy; they know and understand the Plan and their part in it. On the outer plane there are two groups: one large group, unaware of their subjective link with Hierarchy and working only under impression from the Masters; the other, a small inner nucleus which works consciously on the outer plane under the direct supervision of the Masters.

Made up of men and women at all levels of society, the New Group of World Servers has members in every country in the world, without exception. Since 1922, apart from the war years, they have been active in placing before humanity the very principles which will govern our lives in the future ― principles of right relationship, sharing and justice. They are to be found in the educational, political, economic and scientific fields. They are the forerunners of the Christ, the vanguard, sent ahead to prepare the way. From their understanding of the Plan, from their altruistic love of humanity, from their desire to serve, they are the guarantee of the correct working out of the Plan of the Hierarchy of which they are also a part. So in this way, the work of Hierarchy does not infringe human free will. The New Group of World Servers forms a bridging group between humanity and Hierarchy. It is several million strong today.

It is always the energy and blessing of Maitreya which consecrates the Host at this ritual. This is the most valid and authentic part of the Christian Church service. Of course, the wafer and the wine are not turned into the ‘body and blood’ of the Christ. This is a symbolic act in memory of him. The energy transmission, however, is indeed real.

It is impossible to read the Messages from Maitreya, especially aloud, without invoking his energy. That is one reason why they were given. The first part of the question is more difficult to answer ― it really is a matter of experience and discrimination. It is usually more correct to assume that the energy is from one’s soul.

Yes, most certainly. One example is a famous statue in wood in the Koryuji Temple in Kyoto, Japan, dating from the sixth and seventh centuries. For centuries it has been known as ‘the statue of the golden light’ because of the radiance which is sometimes seen to emanate from it.

It depends on what is meant by ‘make contact.’ If it means can ‘ordinary’ people receive communications, messages, enlightenment, guidance, from Maitreya, then the answer is no. He does not make that kind of contact. I know that many people claim such contact ― and often send me the results ― but my information is that these claims are mistaken, and the nature of the received material bears this out. If it means can people invoke his energy, his love, then the answer is, assuredly, yes. He himself has said: “My help is yours to command. You have only to ask.” (Message no. 49)

Yes, he frequently uses this form of contact.

The Christ was called, by both Gautama Buddha and St Paul, “the Teacher alike of angels and of men,” and that is precisely what he is. He is as much a teacher for the devas as he is for the human evolution. As the Master DK has shown (in the books of Alice A. Bailey), he will bring ― in fact, has brought ― into the world, certain great devas who will work closely with humanity and teach us many aspects of the art of living.

(1) Maitreya is totally perfected in a planetary sense. Even in a systemic sense he is without that sense of separation which we call sin. (2) No. He is a resurrected and ascended Master. In his present manifestation in the modern world (London), he is in a self-created body ― a mayavirupa.

Maitreya has lived in his retreat high in the Himalayas (at about l7,500 feet) for the last 2,000 years in a ‘body of light,’ that is, the resurrected and ascended body of a perfected Master of high degree. That body is now ‘at rest,’ as he has termed it ― a state of suspended animation. The body in which he now lives and works in London is self-created especially for this mission and will remain as it is today for the next 2,500 years.

The Christ is not formless but, of course, the energy he embodies, the Love energy, the energy which we call the Christ Principle, is formless. His consciousness is centered in the mayavirupa (self-created body). He meditates and lives and works as a normal man, in the mayavirupa, which is a completely real body.

Mainly, be present. One could give a lecture on the Christ’s plans, teachings and work in the coming time to inspire humanity into making a change of direction, but the great difference this time is the fact that he has promised to stay with us to the end of the Aquarian Age, i.e. approximately 2,500 years. No theologians or priests will be necessary, therefore, to interpret (or misinterpret) his teachings.

There will not be an official ‘mouthpiece’, an official magazine, or whatever, for Maitreya. As he is an advisor, a teacher, he will appear often (I do not know how regularly) on radio and TV; he will be quoted in newspapers and so on. His teaching will be mainly through television and radio. This is the revelatory phase, prophesied by the Master DK through Alice Bailey to begin after 1975.

Some will and some will not. Certain Masters have been designated for particular posts in specific centres — the five major spiritual centres and two minor ones. However, the Christ will make a journey — I do not know how soon after the Day of Declaration — to all countries of the world, so that all of us will have the opportunity to see him more personally.

The sheer logistics, the technical problems, make that a difficult question to answer. I would think that his tours would be similar to those of the Pope but, naturally, on a far larger scale. The Pope attracts mainly Roman Catholics and other interested people, but the Christ will attract the attention of millions, even billions, of people of all faiths and of no religious background at all. I am sure he will attempt to make himself even more accessible than the Pope does today. One difference will be that with Maitreya there is no danger of assassination. He is and will be invulnerable. That is one danger and worry which will not engage the minds of the governments whose work it will probably be to organize his tours. For him personally it will be a gigantic task.

No doubt his functions will differ from country to country, and he will go with that purpose in mind. I think he will try to use his good offices in whatever capacity they can best be used. He is here to serve the world, and I think it is in that light that he will present himself to the world. He will not present himself as knowing everything and come to do everything for us, but if people and governments ask his advice or ask for his judgement — his sometimes “Solomon's” judgement — in decisions, for instance, in the Middle East, he will certainly give his guidance and help. Despite the fact that these situations seem insoluble, it may be that people will accept from Maitreya advice and suggestions that they would never accept from lesser beings.

Yes. Not only Maitreya but the Masters, too, will elucidate the inner destiny of the various nations. Each nation has some unique contribution to make to a civilization, while some nations, because of their rays (each nation has a soul ray and a personality ray), their size, whether male or female, have often a decisive role to play. Each nation has an occult purpose and ‘motto’ or role in the unfolding evolution of the race.

Some undoubtedly will, while some may be slower to accept his counsel. I am thinking of countries like Russia and China, which have no religious means by which to approach him. The peoples of these countries, however — like the people elsewhere in the world — will force their leaders to implement the principle of sharing. In a very real sense, despite their lack of personal freedom, these countries are already nearer to the implementation of sharing and justice than are the Western democracies.

No. In a sense, he will not have any ‘headquarters’. His residence in London now is, I believe, a temporary measure. His journey around the world should take several years ― two or three years, at least. Then he will go, from time to time, to any other particular country or countries where the need for him is the greatest, where he can be of most use, can best serve at that time.

The aim of Transmission Meditation is service, not upliftment. I do not know the questioner but nevertheless I would suggest that the ‘upliftment’ experienced during ‘daily contemplations’ is the result of his/her astral aspiration, probably with some degree of heart input. Transmission Meditation is a scientific process by which the energies of Hierarchy are transformed — stepped down — and made generally available to humanity. It works on mental levels and does not involve ‘experiences’, uplifting or otherwise. However, perhaps because they are somewhat more astrally polarized, many people do claim to find Transmission Meditation very ‘uplifting’ and rewarding. (1) No, not at all. (2) My advice would be to continue – without looking for ‘experiences’.

Only by practice. It is really a process of self-selection. You go to a Transmission group or form a group, and do it a few times and either you are attracted by it and find it useful, satisfying and really rather pleasurable, or you find it such a terrible bore that you never go back. There is no glamour, there is nothing to talk about, there are no stories, no gurus, no devotion. It is a purely objective, scientific process; it is work, a job. You can do it in any degree of intensity — up to three times a week, for three or four hours. Of course, not everyone can maintain that intensity or rhythm — and so it tends to be a self-selective process. Those who cannot do it keep away. Those for whom it is natural tend to be the ones who do it.

This is an act of service. It is service given to you ‘on a plate’. Many people today want to serve. People say: “I long to serve but I don’t know how to begin.” Well, there is a world to save. There are millions of people starving in the world. There are countless millions who are poverty-stricken, and so on. There is a whole world to change and save and transform. So you do not have to go further than next door to serve. You do not have to go further than your Transmission room to serve. It is service given to you; the simplest, easiest form of service that exists. I can vouch for its effectiveness and its simplicity, but it is not for everyone, because some people want more. They want to have something to talk about: “Where am I? Who am I? Does my guru love me, does he not love me? Is he a higher or a lower guru? Is he bigger or lesser than so-and-so? Did you get that marvelous feeling when he looked at you?” and so on. There is none of that in Transmission work — it is a pure act of service to the world, and so it tends to be self-selecting.

Transmission Meditation will not interfere or work against any other spiritual practice you may do. On the contrary, it will enhance the value of every practice. However, they should not be done at the same time.

Then you will have Transmission Meditation with two people. It is possible to do Transmission by yourself also. But, of course, only so much energy can be placed through one person, or through two people. Being a triangle potentizes the energies out of all recognition.

You may mentally link up with other groups which are meeting at the same time. There are Transmission groups now over much of the world. Transmission is fundamentally taking place on the soul level.

Sooner or later we have to come into a state of alignment between the physical brain and the soul. That is what meditation does. By meditation you gradually build a channel called the “antahkarana”, which is a channel of light from the physical plane up to the soul. Simultaneously, the soul is building the same bridge down toward the physical. This channel, when formed, provides a link between the soul and its vehicle, and vice versa. This is the process whereby the man or woman gradually becomes at-one with the soul. The soul ‘grips’ the vehicle and reflects itself through it. By the use of the mantram OM and the holding of the attention at the ajna centre between the eyebrows, an alignment is created between the brain and soul.

Very important. It is the alignment between the brain and the soul which allows the Masters, working from the soul level, to channel the energies through the groups.

No. The breathing should be natural, light, high in the chest and silent. With experience you will find that the breathing becomes so light it practically stops for quite long periods. These are often ended with a sudden, strong ‘gasp’ of air intake.

If you are aligned, yes. The Transmission comes mainly from the Buddhic level. It is stepped down for us by the Masters and we step it down further. Alignment is necessary to transmit it.

The most important action with which Maitreya is concerned is the saving of millions of people who currently die from starvation in a world of plenty. He says that nothing so moves him to grief as this shame: “The crime of separation must be driven from this world. I affirm that as My Purpose.” So the first aim of Maitreya is to show humanity that we are one and the same: wherever we live, whatever our colour, background or religious belief, the needs of all are the same.

Equally important and just as urgent is the saving of our planet from the destruction caused by our misuse of its resources. Governments today are more and more becoming aware, after many years of information from scientists, that global warming is a reality. Global warming is now understood to a degree, but man’s responsibility for it has not yet dawned on all the national authorities. This is one of the most important realizations that we have to make — that man is responsible for at least 80 per cent of the warming up of the planet, and if this continues it will drastically affect our daily lives. Maitreya and the Masters alone have the exact knowledge of how to proceed but we already know the first steps to take (the need to restrict carbon emissions and so on) but the urgency of action is probably not fully realized by governments. Maitreya will emphasise how really urgent this action is. The destruction of trees on the planet — for example, an area of primal forest the size of Belgium is destroyed every year in Central and South America — has a profound effect on essential oxygen in the world.

The necessity for sharing the resources of the planet is the number one action which Maitreya will emphasise. This will create the trust which will open the way to the solution of all further problems, national and international.

Maitreya’s coming is about world change: change in our understanding of the needs of the planet, the ecological balance; the change in our economic systems so that all people are fed and cared for properly; change in relationships between people everywhere. The true understanding that humanity is one will show the absolute necessity for this profound transformation. It is the making of a new world.

You are not alone on the planet and therefore you will see that these changes relate to you and your life, and this will give a deepening sense of the reality and meaning of Maitreya’s coming.

Maitreya does not come alone but is the head of a large group of perfected men, the Masters of Wisdom. As humanity starts to take seriously the advice and guidance of Maitreya and the Masters, there will begin this process of world change, which eventually will cover every aspect of our lives. This will of course affect you as it affects everyone else. Think about the coming of Maitreya in this way and I think you will get a deeper understanding of what his coming means to us.

Maitreya is here to advise, guide and teach. He is not here to direct our actions and will not do so. He is a teacher. The Masters, His immediate disciples, will be available with Their higher knowledge and experience for help and advice, as also will Maitreya. But we have to want what we have to do. Maitreya will outline the broad general direction of our thinking. That is: a sense of the oneness of humanity; the absolute necessity for the sharing of the world’s resources; and the ending of war and terrorism as a way of solving international problems. When we show that we understand this, as much help and advice as we can use will be provided. But we have to want the changes for ourselves; willingly, gladly make these changes. The Masters do not come to tell us what to do. Maitreya has said: “I am the Architect, only, of the Plan. You, My friends and brothers, are the willing builders of the Shining Temple of Truth.” — the temple of truth being the new civilization.

We should do nothing in relation to the media other than make known that Maitreya and His Group are in the world. It is not our task to point Him out to the media. They, like all humanity, have to make the recognition for themselves. If people believe, rightly or wrongly, that Maitreya is the Christ, the Imam Mahdi, Maitreya Buddha, the Messiah or Kalki Avatar, and accept His advice because of that, it does not mean that they are in themselves ready to make the changes which must ensue to preserve the world and humanity with it. We have to recognize Maitreya, not because we think He is Maitreya, or the Christ or the Messiah, or whoever, but because we agree with what He is saying, that we want for the world what He says is necessary for the world: justice and sharing and freedom for all people, rather than because we think He is the World Teacher or some great spiritual being.

When He appears to people He is usually using a ‘familiar’, a created person through which some part of His consciousness manifests. But when He appears openly to the world, although not using the name Maitreya, He will appear as in fact He is, in the self-created body in which He manifests now in the world.

You will find that Maitreya and the Masters, although from our point of view perfected, spiritual beings, are straightforward, simple, and totally respectful in their approach to humanity. They do not, and will not ever, behave like remote Gods of popular imagination. They are men, like us, but men without fault. They have a ready sense of humour, a simplicity of approach, and They know better than we do ourselves the inner spiritual nature of all people. Maitreya is the Lord of Love, the Spiritual Hierarchy is the Centre on the planet in which the Love of God is expressed and that exemplifies Their approach to us. It is unconditional.

The fundamentalists of all religions will probably be the last people to recognize and respond to Maitreya, but eventually they will.

The Palestinian/Israeli problem, which is central to the problems of the Middle East, I believe will only be solved through the action of Maitreya. But even Maitreya cannot impose a solution, he can only advise. But his acceptance by countless millions in the world as a spiritual teacher and guide will make it easier for the most fanatical Israeli Jew or Palestinian Muslim to accept the necessity of living together side by side. This can only take place when justice is given to the Palestinians. When justice is done and seen to be done, fully and completely, then the solution will become acceptable by the Muslims, and, even if grudgingly, by the Israelis. They have eventually to learn to live side by side and they can only do so in a state of justice. Otherwise there would inevitably be perpetual war between the two.

Unless the Middle East problems are solved there will never be peace in the world and we know, if there is no peace, then the future for humanity would be very bleak indeed. Muslims await the Imam Mahdi, and the Jews await the Messiah, and many will be ready to recognize Maitreya as such. This will, I am sure, soften their stance in relation to each other.

But the important thing is that justice must be given to the Palestinians. The West Bank was gifted by the late King Hussein of Jordan as a homeland for the Palestinians and that means the whole of the West Bank, not the fraction which has been offered to the Palestinians so far. It requires the return of the 4.7 million refugees, mainly in Lebanon, to their homeland, and the status of Jerusalem — which is of major importance to the Muslims, the Jews and the Christians — to be changed into an open, central city for all three groups. I believe it will take Maitreya to bring this reconciliation about, but so it will be.

Is there any time-scale for that?

Well, we make the timescale. It is a question of the will of the people of the area: they make the timescale. If they are willing to make the changes, accept the resolution of the conflict and make a just peace possible, it can be very quick. It depends on the resistance of the fanatical groups on both sides. But when the whole world is being changed you will find that these small areas, however important they may be, will find it more and more difficult to resist the changes which will bring about peaceful solutions.

Essentially everybody wants a world at peace. Only mad warmongers want war, which is good for business and makes fat profits for certain groups. But when humanity as a whole sees the absolute necessity for peace, then the end of war itself can be achieved. (Share International July/August 2007)

I can understand this feeling but it is just a feeling and does not take into account the Law that Maitreya cannot ignore: that is the Law of human Freewill. At any time in the last 30 years, if we had ourselves taken some steps to right the wrongs of today, to implement the principle of sharing, to restore justice and peace to the world, then we would have seen Maitreya openly long ago. Blame ourselves and not Maitreya (or me!)

Maitreya is in the world, but once He emerges openly, every action that we take in the right direction — that is towards oneness, justice, freedom for all people — will invoke His help and energy. He will potentize our actions and the changes will proceed with enormous speed and order.

I cannot speak for everybody, but the vast majority of humanity will have heard His words telepathically on the Day of Declaration, and it seems obvious that the time and resources of the media from then on will be devoted to making known the advice and priorities of Maitreya. One must remember that there will be no recording of the telepathic message that Maitreya will give and no doubt there will be misremembering and misquoting of His meaning. But Maitreya will be available for clarifying in the normal way, in further interviews, the exact meaning of His words.

It will be a spiritual experience, but always at the level of each individual. People can only take what they can take, they can only be who they are. Some people will immediately sense and recognize Maitreya as the spiritual giant that He is. Others will respond more to what He says, it will satisfy their sense of justice and purpose. But that spiritual outflow will always take place. I doubt that it would be as strong as on the Day of Declaration.

No, but Maitreya has continued to make individual contact with many leaders in every branch of human activity.

Maitreya is here, as the World Teacher. Is this the end? On the contrary, this is the beginning of a new time for humanity. But a humanity chastened and relieved of its illusions and destructiveness. For two thousand years, the Christian groups have taught an account of the return of the Christ, coming on a cloud in the last days of the world, the ‘end times’. This, I submit, is a completely wrong interpretation of Christian scriptures which has distorted Christians’ expectations of the Christ’s return. The so-called ‘end times’ have nothing to do with the end of the world but refer to the end of the Age of Pisces, inaugurated by the Christ through Jesus 2,000 years ago. He promised to return, at “such a time as you think not”, to inaugurate the new age, that of Aquarius. This time He has come Himself to expand the teaching given through Jesus and to prepare the world for the Aquarian experience.

What we have to look forward to is not the end of the world, which will not take place for millions of years yet, but for the creation of a new civilization based on higher and truer spiritual values than were possible for humanity at the time of Jesus. Jesus Himself, now a Master, works with the Christ on a daily basis and will reform the Christian churches and teaching, as His part in the Great Plan.

I quite agree. When people come to know the Masters more closely they will recognize that They are filled with the joy of life and have an extraordinary and quick sense of humour. The inventiveness of Their imagination is one of the outstanding qualities of Their activity.

He will appear in other countries. He will appear first in America in such a way that He can speak to millions of people. Then in Japan. Which country do you think has the largest and most influential media network in the world? If He appears on a major network in America He can be heard immediately by millions of people not only in the US but, through the internet, all over the world.

Eventually, after the Day of Declaration when He is known and accepted by humanity, He will make a pilgrimage around the world.

Yes. Not everybody is selfish and competitive. Probably the majority of people are partly selfish and partly altruistic; people are mixed, not one hundred per cent this or that. There are degrees of selfishness and altruism. There is a great body of people who are ready for an unselfish action, ready to see justice in the world and therefore sharing.

In the second of the Agni Yoga books, Leaves of Morya’s Garden Book Two, published in 1925, Maitreya said [paraphrased]: “There was a time when 10 true men could save the world. Then came a time when 10,000 was not enough. I shall call on one billion.” About five or six years ago, I asked my Master whether Maitreya had His one billion yet. Yes, I was told, Maitreya had 1.5 billion people He could call on. So it was 1.5 billion people out of 6.5 billion in the world — people whom He knew to be of goodwill; ready to change, altruistic and ready to see new structures and new ways of living. Now [April 2006], there are 1.8 billion people He can call on — more than enough.

Besides, we have no alternative. If I offer you life or death, what are you going to take? Maitreya will say: “You have a choice. Choose life, if you are sensible, and create a brilliant, golden, civilization, better than anything the world has ever seen. Or face annihilation.” Which are you going to choose?

There has never been an Avatar, a Teacher, of such potency as Maitreya. Have no fear. The world will change quickly from being greedy and selfish to showing the true quality of humanity.

From Maitreya’s point of view humanity is wonderful. Maitreya loves humanity, not only because He is the Lord of Love — that is why He is able to love humanity, despite everything, despite all our greed and selfishness. But He also sees the light of divinity in humanity. He is the head of the kingdom of souls and He sees the soul of humanity and that soul is in every single human being. No matter how selfish or hateful we might seem, He sees that light of divinity in us, and on that you can rely.

You will have to wait because there is a moment which is the best possible moment for Maitreya to appear and that moment He will choose. You have to trust Him. That is the thing, people don’t have the trust. You have no one else to trust.
Questioner: I trust myself!
Trust yourself? All right, change the world, make everyone happy tomorrow! You can’t do it. You have to trust the World Teacher to help us, because He is so wise, the Lord of Love, embodying the Love of God. If you can’t trust Him to know the best time, who else can you trust? Trust and relax and don’t be so impatient.

About three months.

We have a photograph of the ‘hand’ of Maitreya. Get a copy of that ‘hand’ and invoke His help. Look at the hand and ask Him through the hand. Ask Maitreya whatever it is you need help for. That is all you need to do if you want help.

Maitreya has given a simple, direct means of contacting Him. Use the ‘hand’ of Maitreya which is given for this purpose. Simply look at it and that immediately draws His attention to the person asking for His help.

All the Masters of Wisdom are direct disciples of Maitreya. Benjamin Creme is a disciple of one of these disciples.

Not at all. The very opposite. But they will be new, they will be rejuvenated and purified. All the ancient dogmas and doctrines will be removed from religion. They will have a new life and a new vigor, a new purity and reality for people. And they will continue to evolve.

But gradually out of the various religions people will be drawn into a new approach to divinity. One cannot call it a new religion because it is not based on faith. It isn’t based on belief. It is the science of evolution, by which means, those who are interested enough in the science underlying the evolutionary process will gradually come, through Maitreya, to an understanding that what we call divinity is beyond us — up there, in the sky, in the universe, all around us — in fact, nowhere you could look where there is no divinity. That’s all there is — that divinity. But, through Maitreya, many people drawn from the various religions will come together and find a new approach to divinity: the realization that that divinity and the divinity in each one of us are one and the same. There is no separation or difference between our innate divinity and what we call God, up and beyond ourselves. So if you want to call that a religion, then that is the religion of the coming time.

But for a long time ahead the various religions will continue in their purified state. The Master Jesus, for example, is the head of the Christian groups wherever they are found. His work is to rid these various groups of the man-made doctrines and dogmas which today govern so much of the Christian religion.

In fact, neither. The soul prepares the vehicle for the body of the baby. The soul sets it down in etheric physical matter which gradually comes down into solid physical matter. And around about the fourth week the soul vivifies that matter when the future baby is about four to five weeks old.

Because the Masters cannot stop it. They are not allowed to stop it. We are allowed to stop it. We could stop it tomorrow. We could distribute the resources of the world so that the day after none need die. Yet millions of people starve to death. But it’s not the Masters’ responsibility. It’s our responsibility.

There is a great Law called Free will. The Law governing our free will does not allow the Masters to do for us what we should be doing for ourselves. We would never grow. We would never evolve. We would never become Masters. We would never achieve the evolution that is our destiny in this world if the Masters did everything for us. We have to recognize that it is our responsibility.

It is a terrible crime that people are dying. People say, “Why does God allow this?” It has nothing to do with God. It has to do with us. We are responsible for each other. That’s why we are here. We are here to look after each other. That’s what families do and the sooner we recognize it, the better off we will be.

So, it’s not up to the Masters. It’s up to each individual to take the responsibility for being human; and to be human is to be divine. They are one and the same. A time is coming when humanity, individually, will recognize that what we call humanity and what we call God are one and the same. There is no division. There is no separation at all. Throughout all of cosmos every particle, every element of life is related to every other particle, so throughout cosmos nothing is separate. That’s the great heresy, the idea that we are separate.

Mainly because I know there exists among us now a group of extraordinary, advanced, illumined, enlightened men, called the Masters of Wisdom, with their Master, the Lord Maitreya, the World Teacher, and they know — they are omniscient — that the hearts of humanity are sound, and that they can respond to the good, the indwelling good of every one of us and that we will respond and make the changes — political, economic and social — which will guarantee that we will not destroy ourselves.

That will be the principle of synthesis. We will learn to synthesise all aspects of our lives and the whole of humanity into one group — the age-old dream of the brotherhood of men will become a reality for the first time, and the main instigating force to bring about this synthesis in the first place, will be the acceptance that we are one, brothers and sisters of one humanity and of the one Divine Source; and therefore the sharing of the resources of the world will become the most natural thing in the world — as we do in the family, share whatever the family has, so the human family will recognize the need to share; that is the first step.

The year 2003 was a particularly difficult one for the world and many people in it, especially for those of a sensitive nature and concern whose response to the events has been fearful and emotional. The result of the stress invoked has been, among natural disasters, a multitude of epidemics of one kind or another — from the SARS outbreak to influenzas and repeating infections. People do not all have the same infection, or infection pattern or rhythm, even if the underlying cause of all is stress.

It is necessary to build up the immune system. Above all, and I recognize that this is easier to say than to do, everyone must become more detached, less emotional and fearful in response to world events, and more certain of the reality of Maitreya’s presence and power. I’m not sure that Jesus actually said that. He said in John 14:6, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Light. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Maitreya is an embodiment of the Christ principle. Overshadowing the disciple Jesus, now the Master Jesus, that Christ principle was then manifested through Jesus. So, when Jesus said that, it is Maitreya who is saying it through Jesus.

What we call the Christ principle is an energy of love, an energy of consciousness per se, which is awakened in the [heart] chakra, the center at the right-hand side of the chest. The Christian Bible says, “The wise man’s heart is on the right side; the foolish man’s heart is on the left.”

On the right side of the chest, you have the spiritual heart center, the seat of the soul in the human body. It’s not in the dense physical; it’s in the etheric physical, which is subtle physical. The dense physical is a precipitation downwards from the etheric. The etheric body is laid down in the womb before it becomes a dense physical manifestation.

When what we call the Christ principle is awakened as a little seed of consciousness, a tiny flame at the right side of the chest in that chakra, you become a wise person. You become the one who knows that the Christ principle dwells within and then you respond to the Christ principle whenever you come upon it. When that energy is awakened, you can respond to a greater degree, with a greater purpose, to that energy.

“I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Except through the manifestation of the Christ principle in the heart on the right-hand side of the chest. When the Christ principle is awakened there, you are re-oriented to the spiritual life in whatever department of that life is served.

Does this mean you become religious? The religious path is only one path among many paths to God. They all lead in the end to the same thing — to one God. There is only one divinity — one God. You are it, we are it, and, in fact, there isn’t anything else but God. That’s all there is.

We think that this physical body is something real. It’s not. It’s relatively real. It’s a vehicle for that divinity but we all share that divinity. There is only one divinity. That’s why Maitreya says, “Do not try to worship Me. If you worship Me, you are trying to lower yourself. I do not want this. I want you to be equal. You are a spark of the Supreme Being. Do not think you are below Me.”

There’s only one level. That’s what the divinity is and the only difference between ourselves and the Masters is that They can demonstrate that divinity.

We go through the process of evolution whereby that divinity becomes more and more able to express itself through the physical plane body. So, every life in evolution — you can backslide — but you’re going forward all the time. Every incarnation allows you the capacity to demonstrate more and more of that divinity until you are what Maitreya would call Self-realized.

He has said, “I have not come to found a new religion”, but to help you continue to evolve in the framework of whatever tradition it is. If you’re Christian, be the best Christian, and if you’re Hindu, be the best Hindu, and so on. “I have come to teach humanity the art of Self-realization.” That’s what we’re here for — to achieve Self- or God-realization. He says, “The Self alone matters.”

“No one comes to the Father except through Me.” No one can realize their own divinity, become Self-realized or God-realized — that’s what coming to the Father is — except through the Christ principle being awakened in the human heart. That’s what Jesus meant.

What happens when you give a talk? When you give a talk obviously the words embody your meanings and ideas, to a greater or lesser extent. And most people think that’s all that happens at a talk. That is an important part of it — but it is by no means all that happens when a person, who with sincerity and knowledge makes known these extraordinarily important revelations, about the existence of Hierarchy and the emergence of Hierarchy into the outer field, into the public arena.

But if you think of these stories of experiences, reported in the letters section in Share International magazine, where people have met or been contacted in some way, been spoken to, or passed in the street, who are later confirmed to have been Maitreya, or the Master Jesus, or another Master, if you think: what is the reason they wrote and sent in [to the magazine] that story? Why that event rather than another event? Even if nothing seems to have happened in the experience (and often it seems so ephemeral, or so little seemed to happen, but it’s written up and confirmed if it is genuine because there was something that passed between the people, from Maitreya or the Master involved to the individual who wrote the story), something happened between them. And that is what happens at a talk. Something passes between them in the experience, and also in a talk.

The most important thing that people take with them to a talk, whether as speaker or as a member of the audience, is their aura. You go to a talk, you’re interested in it but afterwards if asked what it was about you will probably find it difficult to say what it was about, but you will find the ‘feeling’ of it, the aura of the person giving it, the interchange between the speaker and the audience, is probably unforgettable. Everyone is aware of the physical body but very few people are aware of the etheric body and the energies, the forces which flow through the etheric out into the world. That energetic process through the chakras forms the aura of the individual which you take about with you everywhere. That aura will be made up of the etheric physical body, of the astral-emotional body, of the four levels of the mental body and of one or other of the three levels of the soul and, if the person is sufficiently advanced, some aspect of the energy of the Monad, or spirit aspect, may also be involved. Now, when a person gives a talk, all of that is relevant. These forces make their magnetism felt to the audience. People doing Transmission Meditation or working for the Reappearance of the Hierarchy and so on are among the more evolved of humanity; they are those whose aura is becoming more and more magnetic.

When you talk to the public your own aura functions, your own magnetism comes alive. You look at yourself in the mirror and think, “What, me? No, I’m too timid.” Well, you feel timid because you’re making yourself timid. People say they can’t do it, they think they can’t give a talk, they say they’re too shy and they leave to it some one or two others to give the talks. On the whole, people don’t give the talks they could easily do. But people become gradually more and more confident as they do it. Confidence grows and you find it easier and easier. It isn’t only a question of overcoming your own glamour; it is also seeing the end ‘product’. It is seeing that it is something outside of yourself — the work, the Plan, the cause you’re working for, and not yourself. If you identify with yourself whatever you’re doing (taking books to a bookstore, for example) you will think you are selling yourself. But if you take the focus away from yourself to the work, and simply relate what you’re doing to the Plan, or the cause, then you find you can do anything.

You have to be detached, even about Maitreya. I’m not allowed to go and see Maitreya, even if I know where He is — which I do. I never go near Him. Even if I know He is at a meeting I would never go to that meeting. It’s not necessary to shake the hand of someone who is real. Either He is real for you, in the heart, or He isn’t. And if He is in your heart you don’t need to see Him or shake His hand.

The Masters always say “soon”, because from Their point of view it is soon, it is very, very soon. For Them 10 or 20 years is ‘soon’; for Them it’s like two weeks of our time. If the Masters said “It may happen in about 20 years” nobody would do anything. When I was informed in 1959 by Maitreya that He was coming very soon, “sooner than anybody thought possible”, He said it would be in about 20 years. Actually, in the event it was 18 years [1977]. I thought “Twenty years! No hurry!” Twenty years to me then was a tremendously long time ahead. So I did nothing. It wasn’t until my Master ‘pushed’ me to get out and speak that I did anything about it. I had no sense of urgency. One of the problems for certain esoteric groups is that they have no sense of urgency.

The aim of Maitreya is to bring humanity to God, in terms of recognizing the divine in yourself, in ourselves, and expressing it. That means living as if you are that God. That does not involve joining a religion and becoming a nun or a monk, but it does involve acting in relationship to everyone you are in contact with as if they are oneself. To do this we must live in peace, without fighting and competing. Competition must be banished from our ideas of living together. Every single person is a potential God and every individual has his or her own rhythm of growth — some faster, some slower, some develop along one line, while others may develop differently. And in this way all aspects of life are covered.

One of the major problems a number of developed countries face is that of immigration — the arrival of immigrants. The USA and some European Union countries have put up huge barriers, walls around their countries, along the borders. And what they are saying really is, “They aren’t allowed to come here. We don’t want them. They come here and take our jobs. They’re a nuisance and there are too many of them. Our country isn’t big enough for thousands of immigrants to come in.” In the meantime, more and more refugees and immigrants keep coming, looking for work. They come from the developing world, where they haven’t got work, to the developed countries, hoping that they will find work, either legally, or if not, then illegally. Britain is the centre of the British Commonwealth of nations as a consequence of being an empire in the past. At one time, anyone from one of the Commonwealth countries was allowed to come to Britain; it was more or less as if you were British. Now, it is made difficult and people from those countries are made to wait for years. And there’s a huge wall or obstacles between you and those wanting to come in.

But all countries which have had wave after wave of immigrants over the centuries coming into their societies have been enriched by them. The immigrants have brought a different quality to the local life — different cuisine, different ways of thinking, different religions; different in many ways we wouldn’t expect. They have enriched the quality of our lives. And in terms of America, the immigrants have made modern America.

Maitreya’s work is to inspire humanity to see this, to see and accept that we are One and that we should aim at living in the one world as one group, called mankind. He has to teach humanity how to live and we have to respond. We have to see it as necessary as if we had thought of it ourselves. Maitreya has the task of advising humanity but we have the task of seeing the reality of what He says and that it is not just another idea but an absolutely essential action on our part. And we have to want it. We have to welcome and be glad of it. We need to accept the principle of sharing and put it into practice.

It has not yet reached its end. It will go on and on. It will go up and down. There will be slight improvements, especially in the monetary sense but from the point of view of work and industry there will be such a collapse that it will take years and years to put to rights countries like America and Europe. Jobs are being lost by the hundreds of thousands every week. Think of what it must be like in developing countries. (Share International, September 2009)

We all think we have an open mind but in reality we have nothing of the kind. Almost everything we believe, and everything we think we know and take for granted as our world picture, is really the result of our conditioning from the cradle onwards. When we see something which seems to flow in the opposite direction to what we believe or think is reality we are apt to throw it away. We dismiss it because it interferes with our self-esteem, our security of thought, and so we don’t like it.

It is especially difficult if people come from an orthodox tradition, if they are already in some religious organization — a tradition which seems to run counter to what I’m saying. From my point of view I don’t think that what I say does truly run counter to any religious tradition. It may well seem so. This information is difficult, especially if you are hearing it for the first time. If you are somewhat familiar with the story it begins to make sense. In the first place, it seems either totally wrong or too good to be true.

I should have thought it is obvious. What is obvious is that if what I say is true then this is the most important information that you could ever hear. If it is true it is the very basis of, not only our life now, but our succession of lives from the distant past until today, and on and on into the future. This information, again if it is true, also gives us an understanding of what is happening today; why the things that happen do happen. And how things which are, to many people, horrible or difficult and traumatic can be changed so that we enter a world of peace, justice and happiness for the huge bulk of humanity.

This is yet another of these conspiracy theories that emanate so regularly from the USA. There is no substance in them at all. Relax!

On the whole, vaccination has been beneficial in eradicating several severe children’s illnesses. Homoeopathic ‘nosodes’ (vaccines) are available for most of these diseases but until homoeopathy is more widely known and accepted (which is slowly happening) vaccination will remain the ‘normal’ mode. It would be dangerous to “do away with vaccination altogether”.

As I keep saying to people, “Hold your attention high.” It does mean simply holding your attention high, but of course it is more than that. It means holding the spiritual tension generated by the activity and action in two directions: practising and spreading of Transmission Meditation around the world and making known the Reappearance of the Christ at this time. This is a considerable achievement in its own right.

More and more people are beginning to understand that what we have been talking about is, from a very practical perspective, what they are concerned about — the world at large, the world that is dealing them very difficult options today, and they do not know what to do.

Our life’s work is not easy, to be sure, but it is circumscribed. As part of humanity, we have to earn a living. We have to find our way through this so-called recession. We have to withstand the pain of the wilderness experience and, like all of humanity, come through it. We have to come through it without being shaken or being beaten by it, with our heads high and our attention even higher, because we are involved in something even greater than we have perhaps until now realized.

He will not be known on television as Maitreya [at first]; He will be introduced as an ordinary man when He appears. His ‘voice’ [manner] will be quiet and reasonable; as my Master put it “so that He won’t frighten away the people He’s trying to help.” But gradually He will become more powerful, more emphatic in his statements until we see sense.

He is a man of extraordinary breadth of mind; far above the ordinary breadth of approach; far above what we mean when we think of inclusiveness. It may be that you do not like what He has to say. If you don’t like what I have to say then you won’t like what He says. But He will make you think. His ideas will make you think.

Everyone will have the same opportunity to respond to His ideas and to follow His thoughts. I’ve spoken only about His political, economic, social ideas and concerns — this is the initial focus and approach. This is the most important at the moment because we are going through a spiritual crisis which is focused through the political, economic and environmental fields. And our problems can only be solved in these fields.

The Masters have, through their agencies — disciples of the Masters, men and women of great experience in their own role in economics and administration — worked out over the years a number of interrelated plans, any one of which would solve the redistribution problems of the world. The world’s problem, the economic problem, is really a problem of distribution and redistribution. Nothing else.

The favourite way, and there are many different plans, but the favourite one of the Masters is this — we have not on the whole heard about it, but it would be this. A new United Nations agency would be set up, dealing only with distribution of resources under the jurisdiction of a Master (or at least what’s called a third-degree initiate, a quite evolved individual), to make sure it was done properly, without corruption and so on.

Then each nation would be asked to make an inventory of what it had created and what it had to import. In this way all this information would be fed into computers and the result would be that the world’s cake would be known — the size of the resources of the world and where they lay. [It would be known] which nations were overburdened with this, and under-burdened by that, and so on, and then each nation would be asked to make over in trust for the world as a whole that which it had in excess of its need. So those great nations that had great excess would put more into the common kitty.

As I understand it, for total complete enactment of this process, it would take about three years. So, in three years, the process of sharing the world’s resources could be commonplace.

If the scientists are representing correctly what they are seeing, they are discovering for themselves what has already been discovered by Wilhelm Reich (1897-1957), the well-known psychoanalyst and later scientist, who discovered a primordial energy which he named ‘orgone’. He saw it as an energy which interpenetrated all forms of matter. He experimented with orgone in many ways: in healing and cloud-busting (making rain) where and when needed by very simple means. The US Food and Drug Administration had him arrested and imprisoned for his trouble, and he died in prison.

I believe that the vibration which astronomers have discovered, the ‘orgone’ of Wilhelm Reich, and the higher etheric levels of matter are one and the same. Scientists today recognize matter as being solid, liquid and gaseous but esotericists know that there are four further states of matter above gas known as the 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st planes of etheric matter. So instead of three planes, there are actually seven planes of matter. All matter is a precipitation of light; so the field of matter is light precipitated into seven more or less material planes. The advent of the Christ and the emergence of the Masters of Wisdom will bring an enormous sense of relief, and a reduction of tension in the world. The gain in physical and emotional well-being will be considerable. Much of the physical disease in the world today has a psychic cause: the strains, the tensions and fears inherent in our divided society and world. Given true hope for the future, the general health of humanity will improve.

Quite apart from this, new approaches to discovering the causes of disease will be made. The existence of the etheric planes of matter, i.e. matter finer in substance than gas and normally invisible, has long been postulated, and accepted by esotericists as axiomatic. This is the next area of matter due for investigation by our exoteric scientists. Kirlian photography and the work of Wilhelm Reich have already pointed the way. It will be realized that the health of the physical body depends entirely on the etheric ‘double’ or ‘counterpart-body’. The force centres (or ‘chakras’ as they are called in the East), which focus the etheric flow, have their counterparts on the dense physical plane in the major and minor glands of the endocrine system. We are just beginning to understand how important to our well-being is the correct, interrelated functioning of the endocrine system. This, in turn, is dependent on the proper functioning of the vital etheric body which substands it. (Benjamin Creme, Share International Special Information Issue)

The Masters are the custodians of all the spiritual energies entering the planet. And Their task is to radiate some degree of these energies out into the world in such a way that the Plan of Evolution works out. Everything that humanity does is in response to energy. Generally speaking, we don’t know that, but that’s what happens. If the energy isn’t there then nothing happens. Even just to lift a glass of water takes energy. Everything we do takes energy of one kind or another. We usually think of energy as a physical phenomenon; we think of it in physical terms, such as having enough energy to run. But I’m not talking about that kind of energy. This is about spiritual energy. And that spiritual energy embodies certain great ideas – like love, like unity, illumination, justice, right relationship, will, purpose. These are all ideas which embody certain energies and they become humanity’s ideals; and as we put our ideals into effect we use the energies and so create our culture and our civilization. That’s how culture and civilization grow – in response to the energies embodying the ideals which are a reflection of the ideas which themselves embody the energies in the first place.

The Masters know that, in order to bring out certain aspects of the Plan as They see it, They need to release certain energies which will produce a certain response or result, if we respond. They are experts at it, so in the end we usually respond; possibly not perfectly but to some degree.

Suddenly the Berlin Wall comes down. Why? Because the people of Germany awakened to the pressure of this energy which was saying ‘Freedom! Freedom!’ or ‘Justice!’ and they pulled down the wall. It didn’t happen the day before. It had to wait until there was that intensity of energy and a sufficient number of people responding to it for the event to take place. And that’s how everything happens in the world. These energies reach a certain focus and intensity to which humanity willy-nilly responds — not everybody, but the more advanced and then the less sensitive, and so on. And when a kind of critical mass has been reached, then events happen — humanity acts, governments act. All these different things take energy.

The Masters are seeking all the time to direct, to guide humanity but we have freewill and They always respect that freewill. They never do and never will infringe our freewill. They cannot and will not force humanity to do anything. And so we do many destructive things. The Masters try to guide us not to do certain things — for example: to prevent war, to make war unthinkable — but if humanity thinks war and has the destructive tendency then they make war, despite the work of the Masters to prevent it. We, humanity, create wars, even though behind us stand the Masters doing everything They can to keep us on a peaceful constructive evolutionary path. The Masters know the way; They have been through evolution. They know the path but They can only teach us the way. They can’t do it for us.

Angels exist. They are a quite separate evolution from the human — a kind of parallel evolution to the human. In the East, they are called the Deva Evolution or the Angelic Evolution. They are all the way from the very subhuman elementals on the involutionary arc to great beings — Archangels — far higher than humans, on the evolutionary arc. So, it’s an unbelievably varied evolution all the way down into matter — these elementals are used to upholding the matter of the planet. And on the evolutionary arc, the lower builders as they are called, those who create the trees, the flowers, the vegetation of the planet, who administer the weather of the planet, who look after the springs, the rivers — all of that is the activity, in matter, of these tiny little devic or angelic lives which are subhuman. And in acting in this way they gradually evolve to come near the human evolution.

People today are experiencing angels all over the world, in every country. It becomes a ‘number one’ hot talking point everywhere, from the media to the dining room, and so on. Everybody has now experienced an angel.

These ‘angels’ are not angels, these ‘angels’ are Masters. The Masters act as if They were angels, saving people from all sorts of tragedies; death in a car crash, drowning or falling off a cliff, or whatever. These innumerable instances of being saved by ‘angels’ are, in every case, done by Masters Who show Themselves as ‘angels’. They can change Their appearance at will. People think of angels with big wings and so on; They don’t have big wings, they don’t need wings, it’s a thought-form which humans have about angels. So, the Masters use that thought-form, appear as ‘angels’, and people say, “An angel saved me!” It did — but it was a Master.

Now, angels exist in their own right but they don’t have this contact with humanity which people imagine they do. Not yet; but one day, in the future, there will be a close relationship between the human kingdom and the angelic evolution. They are great healers and have much to confer on humanity in terms of the healing arts.

We do indeed have a guardian angel and people think that when they’re being saved it is their guardian angel — who is their guardian. But it is not like that at all. The guardian angel does not save you from mishap or from a tragic dangerous situation. A guardian angel keeps you on the path of evolution; that’s its role. Where you might stray onto the involutionary path through black magic and evil activity the role of the guardian angel is to keep you on the straight path to God, which is the path of Light, through the evolutionary process and of which the Masters that I’m talking about are the Custodians.

You can’t speak to your guardian angel. People pray to them, but it is the Masters who hear and who respond.

Yes it has extraordinary healing properties, but not in the way you might think. It is a means of invoking the energies of Maitreya. The water Maitreya has magnetized all over the world is magnetized with energy from Aquarius; that energy resides in the water. In the case of the hand it does not. When you place your hand over it, or simply look at it and ask for Maitreya’s healing or blessing or help, that invokes it from Maitreya — according to the karmic law.

It acts as a source of help from Maitreya, depending on the law of karma. If you ask for a bigger car or house, it does not mean He is going to give you a bigger car or house, but if it is within the law of karma your request may be met.

(1) No, it is not coincidence. As with all Masters, Maitreya and my Master share a group consciousness. Maitreya is very aware of Share International. (2) Yes. (3) Until we see His face it is the closest He can come to us.

I don’t think that He makes that distinction. I don’t think He weighs dying and abject destitution. He sees being, He sees the suffering. If you could see into the heart of the Christ, what do you think you would see? When I ask that question, people say a brilliant golden light, heavenly peace and glory and wonderful bliss. Not at all! In the heart of the Christ, if you could see into it, you could not stand it for a split second. It would ravish you. It would be so unbearable; it would drive you mad if you could see into the heart of the Christ today. He is the man of sorrows: His sorrows, our sorrows. There is between Him and us no separation whatsoever. When He looks at humanity, He sees — experiences in His heart, not separate, but He sees our pain, our suffering, our anguish, fear, despair, our pathos, our hatred — all of that is there in the heart of the Christ. That’s what brings Him into the world out of love for humanity; to change that, to cleanse and purify that, to get rid of the egos, the pain, the suffering, the anguish. That’s what the Christ carries around with Him moment-to-moment.

So, you think He makes a distinction between living and abject destitution and dying and misery and starvation? No! It is just misery; it is just pain and suffering. In answer to that suffering, the Lord of Love responds hoping, believing that He can inspire us to respond; to rid forever this world of this blasphemy which He calls the “massacre of the innocents”, this abject poverty which is the life of billions in the underdeveloped parts of the world.

Simply because they are born in one part of the world rather than another. If we were born in Africa, we would be starving to death. It would not be our karma except in the sense of the result of being born there, but it would not be the result of misdeeds of a previous life. Those who believe that have never gone hungry.

Many people who are watching this believe that it is their karma that lets these people starve to death, believe if we give them food, share the resources, we would simply upset the Law of Karma. This equation is only possible in the mind of somebody who has never gone hungry, never missed a meal unintentionally in their lives.

The reason that people are starving in the world is because we hog the lot. That is all. We are making, as I said, karma of a negative kind every day when we withhold from the developing World their right as sons and daughters of God.

Everybody in the world is responsible for maintaining the peace of the world, and that is true for everyone, not just in America. Practically, those in so-called democracies, even if it is only putting their vote down on a card in a system that may or not work have the responsibility of using it and weighing the results in that way. They have perhaps more responsibility than have the starving millions in the world — the poor, the hungry, those who have no connection to any political party and so have no means of making their needs felt. Needless to say, they are the ones with the greatest need of all. But they have no voice and it is precisely that voice which Maitreya will give them.

He will give a voice to the needs of the poor, the hungry, the displaced, the sitting-in-jail people of the world. Hundreds of thousands of people are in jail simply for the crime of having a different point of view than that of their present government and these people have no voice. They take it for granted that they will be incarcerated and languish in prison, very often they are tortured to boot. Maitreya will speak for them and for all who need a voice and have no voice.

But those who today have a voice, the education, the voting system and a degree of democracy — you have a special responsibility.

I’m talking about the gaining of unity through political action and the need for the realization by people — all people — the educated, the authoritative, the articulate people of the world to make known, to see, to understand and realize the need for unity on an international scale; hence the necessity for all nations of the world to work together. Nothing will change if they don’t.

Many people imagine that Maitreya is going to come out and begin speaking, and the Masters, one by one, will be brought forward and start speaking, and the world will listen to Them and start changing. It isn’t as simple as that. It has to be done by humanity. That means it has to have, not necessarily 100 per cent consensus, but a large degree of approval by most of the people in the world. Otherwise, it wouldn’t stick. It would be an infringement of free will.

We’re not any longer going to go by simple majorities like a political party. But that reality will persist to a degree for a long time. The advice of the Masters will help to form it and transform it into a consensus.

But unless it has a degree of consensus, nothing will happen. There will be no change. It cannot be imposed because it will infringe free will and it cannot be imposed because it wouldn’t last. Anything you impose will not last unless it has the approval of the majority of the people. …

So, you should not look for dramatic changes in the immediate future. The changes will take place bit by bit with a minimum of upset, the minimum destruction or conflict in the societies of the world. Whatever is acceptable will be implemented. If it’s not acceptable, it will be held over until it is accepted and it is only accepted when trust is created. That trust will be created by economic change, the number one change. It’s the answer to all of our problems really.

The starting point for solving all our problems is the change in the economic redistribution of the world’s resources, which, I’ve said over and over again and the Masters have written over and over again, is the key to all further changes because it creates trust. When you create trust, all things become possible. Then you get change in the political field. Change in the political field makes economic change, and these make changes in the purely practical field of looking out for the planet.

The major problem in all these ideas is the need to get rid of the waste. The use of nuclear energy itself is not seen as a problem. The nuclear scientists do see a problem in the disposing of the waste produced in using nuclear energy — it is even dumped in the oceans, in steel and concrete canisters. It profoundly changes the ocean’s ecology. It is bad enough at the present time and but for the work of the Space Brothers it would be infinitely worse.

The climate is being changed; the life of fish of all kinds is being modified, all due to the storage of nuclear radiation. All the waste they have is what they call ‘small-scale nuclear radiation’. Well, it has nothing to do with the scale. If you put the waste in the sea, it is contaminated from the very beginning and they only have instruments that are able to read the radiation up to a certain point. Above that, they do not have the technology to measure it. So they assume that it is not relevant. But that is the most dangerous level of radiation, and they know nothing about it.

Carbon storage has a similar problem. They have to store it somewhere — somewhere it will do no harm. Well, where does it do no harm? Not in my backyard, I say. And everybody else says not in my backyard. And nobody wants stored waste, either nuclear or carbon, in their own backyard. So, where else? The Russians might say: “Well, in China.” The Chinese say: “Oh, no. In Tibet.” And the Tibetans say: “No, no. In America.” The Americans say: “No we are not having it here. Have it in Venezuela.” Each chooses its least favourite country to recommend storing it — and that’s the problem. There is nowhere that it is safe. Where do you put carbon stored in canisters deep underground for thousands of years where it will do no harm? They do not know the harm it will do and they do not know when it will be broken into, broken open by the forces of the Earth itself in an earthquake, say, and released again.

It is tackling a problem always from the wrong end. We do not look for the cause and tackle that cause. What is causing this problem? What is causing nuclear radiation? What is causing global warming? If global warming is partly caused by the destruction of trees, then we have to stop cutting down our trees, especially the ancient primal forests of the world whose trees are great storers of carbon dioxide and pour oxygen into our atmosphere in return. Our atmosphere is becoming deoxidized and the carbon dioxide has nowhere to go, and so it creates global warming. But if we were not so profligate in our use of wood, we would cut out a great source of global warming.

We do not look for the cause because we do not like causes. Causes are to do with laws — cause and effect — and we do not like it. Somehow the modern mechanical mind never looks for the cause because it does not want to change its technology. We may say we cannot do without wood. But what the rich countries do is preserve their own hardwood and buy what they need from poorer countries, like Brazil, countries in Africa and elsewhere. These countries are then forced to cut down, or allow to be cut down, their ancient forests, which are absolutely essential to human life.

So if we want to know what to do about anything we look for the cause. And if we find it, we seek to remedy the cause. Everything is simple. We can build cyclotrons that are 23 kilometres long and take 20 years to build and cost billions of dollars. But if you ask an esotericist he will tell you the answers. Free. In a minute. He is actually more than a human being. He is a divine man — and you’re divine, I’m divine, and the problem is that we don’t know it and we don’t accept it. He is divine but He knows the extent of it. And in the realm of divinity, He is so advanced, He is so pure that He can actually embody a divine principle, a principle we call love — the Christ aspect of God, the Son aspect of God. From this point of view, Christians call Him the Son of God, the one and only Son of God because the Christ principle is the son aspect of God. But He knows that He is one of countless sons of God. All of us are sons of God. The difference is that the Masters know They are sons of God and demonstrate that divinity, and we are at some stage in the process.

It has nothing to do with being complacent or indifferent. Quite the contrary. It has to do with total involvement, total compassion, total absolute concern for, working for and within humanity, but at the same time standing back and doing what we do with detachment and total altruism which is the true nature of the soul. The soul is certainly altruistic.

On the soul plane, there is no sense of separation, the ‘I’. It doesn’t occur to the soul and it is to inculcate that altruistic, that detached view and action in life which is wanted. So you don’t identify with the physical body which is corruptible because it lasts only so long and then it dies, or with the feeling body which is likewise corruptible and that lasts only so long and then it dies, or with the mental body which likewise lasts as long as the physical body — none of these are you! And that is the kind of detachment which is meant by Maitreya.

Well, it’s natural that everyone should earn a living, but the circumstances by which we do that vary tremendously around the world. Some sit at the telephone and make billions of dollars in a few minutes on some stock exchange or another. Others work day and night for the merest pittance to keep body and soul together. It is the divisions in the world which make this a problem.

Yes. That is the problem. After working 10 to 15, 18 hours a day to earn a dollar, nobody has any energy for anything other than the next day’s work.

It has everything to do with that because the divisions are so total. It emphasizes how the world is governed by market forces. People are encouraged to engage in a free trade market economy, but that is producing a stranglehold more and more on the developed world. This is why we have an enormous rise in unemployment throughout the planet. The downsizing of all manufacturing agents and so on is caused by the sheer pressure of competition. Competition is the tool of market forces and these have put a stranglehold on the lifeblood of humanity.

Maitreya calls market forces the forces of evil because they have an inbuilt inequality in them. They are supposed to be an economic norm as if we were all playing on a level playing field. But we are not! You cannot compare the status and monetary ability of say, America, or any of the European nations, with Zaire, Uganda and Tanzania or even countries like India and Pakistan and so on. It is nonsense to believe that we are all competing at an equal level. We are not.

And so, inevitably, the gap between the developed world and the developing world gets wider and wider and people say, “Well, we give them aid.” Well, we do. But the servicing of the loans means that something like 200 billion dollars a year goes back from the developing world to the developed world — plus interest. So ‘aid’ means they are giving up roughly 200 billion plus a year — so it’s not aid! It’s usury and the same appalling circumstances as the Christ, through Jesus, highlighted when He approached the temple to drive out the money-changers and usurers. In a certain symbolic way, you could say He is repeating that today. …

What I did say is that humanity is going through a great spiritual crisis. We don’t know who we are. We don’t know that we are great gods in incarnation, that humanity is one. We don’t know how to live our lives today. We don’t know how to live peacefully together in terms of interdependence and so on. We don’t know how to co-operate instead of competing. We are in love with competition, and all the greed intensifies it, and the economy is suffering. It’s suffering from economic ills. All the results of competition — the crime, the drug abuse, the starving millions — come about because we don’t live together correctly, because we don’t know who we are. That is a spiritual crisis.

We don’t know who we are as beings; we don’t know that even the constitution of the human being is a spark of God demonstrating as a soul, reflecting on the physical plane as a man or woman, over and over and over again. Some people don’t know that this is the reality of our spiritual constitution, which must be the first thing that people should know. Everyone must know how we are constituted and why we’re here.

What is the purpose of life? Nobody knows. Why are we here? What is the purpose? We don’t know how to live and we think it doesn’t matter. We compete to get the biggest and the best, and the rest doesn’t matter. Well, it does matter. That’s the point. The spiritual purpose of man is to manifest right relationship. A right relationship is the next step forward in human evolution. If one child is starving to death in a world overflowing with food, you don’t have right relationship. Thirty-five thousand children a day starve to death in a world overflowing with food so you don’t have right relationship. That’s the reality and that is why Maitreya will speak in the way He speaks.

Reality can only be experienced. That’s the only way you can know reality. By reality, I suppose one could say it comes from all energies, all events and happenings which we call God.

The time is coming when God will not be an idea in the minds of congregations in churches, to Whom we turn our eyes once a week and implore His help and turn to and worship as if He were out there and not inside ourselves. We can only know it through experience. People will come to understand that we are God, that what we call divinity is intrinsic to every human being and is our very nature. There is nowhere where God is not. God is all there is and that is the reality, moment to moment; so going to a church once a week and looking up and thinking there is God up there and worshiping God, in that way we won’t know Him — we won’t experience God as immanent in our lives in a moment-to-moment experience. Maitreya says, “When you share, you recognize God in your brother.” That is your reality. God is in every one of us. He is our nature. He is not a He, He is not a She. It’s a kind of It. It is an It which is the sum total of all that there is and there isn’t anything else. When we get rid of thoughts, then we can know God. When we go beyond thought, then we can come into the direct experience of that which we agree to call God. That is reality. That is ourselves because we are not separate from It.

This is supposed to be a message of hope and I believe it is. However, in spreading this message of hope, it is necessary to point to what is the manifestation of that hope and what stands out as the obstacles to the profound changes that must take place in this world before we can live together in peace and security.

Everyone longs for peace, for equality, for justice, for freedom for everyone everywhere and yet the justice, the peace, the security is nowhere to be seen. Why? We can do things like go to the moon, send rockets to Mars and do all kinds of wonderful technological feats. Why can we not make peace in the world? Why do we have millions of people starving to death in the midst of plenty? Why? How is it possible that we have made what we call a civilization in which we are acting every day against those who are poor and with the greatest needs of human beings, against our notions of right relationships?

The next step forward in human evolution is the creation of right human relationships. If one child is starving unnecessarily in the midst of abundance then we most certainly do not have right human relationships. When governments today go against the best interests of the people, against the wisdom and advice of the General Assembly of the United Nations, then we wonder when we will ever see right human relationships. This world lives in fear. At the centre of every human action is the resonance of fear. Fear dominates the action of governments. It is the number one cancer at the throat of this so-called civilization. Because of this fear, we cannot make the adjustments which our common sense, our mental abilities, our experience, our aspirations demand to be made in order to cause no harm.

Maitreya said that the first stage is knowing who you are and accepting who you are. You have to be who you are without imitating anyone. Everybody imitates everybody. Everybody imitates people they admire, people who they think are great — movie stars or pop stars, or somebody better looking or richer, or whatever it is — anything they admire, and [then they] imitate these images. So they lose their ability to identify with their individuality, lose their spark. You cannot progress if you lose that spark of individuality. Maitreya says that, in the first place, you have to have self-esteem, and crime and violence, drug-taking and so on are always from the loss of self-esteem. So self-esteem has to be restored to overcome drug addiction and violence and crime in our cities. Then that self-esteem gradually becomes self-awareness. Self-awareness gradually becomes Self-Realization. Meditation is a path to that Self-Realization but quite apart from formal meditation, it is a question of who you really are.

But also practise honesty of mind; people think one thing, say something else, and do something else again. That is dishonesty of mind. Honesty of mind is saying what you really think and being who you really are and not pretending to be what you are not.

People live a dream. There is an American Dream. It is lived out in all the fantasies. People strut about like cowboys with their hands close to their sides ready to pull their guns, or they live their dream and they get out their gun and kill everybody in the playground. You’ve all seen the films and you all read your newspapers. People all over the world are living out their dream, their fantasy life. It is not real but a fantasy.

You have to be who you are, and that means recognizing who you are, identifying with the real aspect of yourself, not with the body. If you identify with the body, you’ll express all the ills of the body. But it leads nowhere. If you identify with your emotions it leads you into total chaos. This is not you. You’re identifying with the structures and the constructions of your mind. “I’m a Christian”, or “I’m a theologian,” or “I’m a Democrat.” You are none of these. You are an immortal soul and that is the only thing you can realize and when you do realize it, then you have salvation. Nothing else is salvation. That is Self-Realization.

Now if I were Maitreya, I could probably tell you how to achieve Self-Realization but I’m not Maitreya. He has said these three things — honesty of mind, sincerity of spirit and detachment — are essential. Detach yourself from identifying with your physical body, with the energy of your emotional system and from the constructions of your mind. You are none of these. You are the Self, and knowing the Self you can come into Self-Realization. At that time, you become enlightened, and I have no need to tell you anything else.

Certainly one of Maitreya’s hopes is to open our hearts to others’ suffering. That is what He does every time He releases His energies into the world. It has been at the centre of everything He has said and everything I have said in all the talks and writings I have done. That is exactly what He hopes to do, to open our hearts to the world’s suffering. That way you change the world. He said: “Take your brother’s need as the measure for your action and solve the problems of the world. There is no other course.” (Maitreya’s Message No. 52). He spells it out. Yes. Those with most to lose by Maitreya’s emergence, that is the forces of materiality, the forces of evil, do everything in their power to prevent it. War, terrorism, tension, fear, chaos are their main weapons. Many world leaders play right into their hands, not because they are evil, but because they are often ignorant, dogmatic and chauvinistic, lacking in a world view. The ‘isms’ like capitalism and communism are man-made terms. Maitreya said the governmental approach of the future will emphasize consensus. He says that government comes out of the needs of people, the ordinary needs of real, living people, not out of ideology like democracy, communism, fascism or any ‘ism’ at all. The ‘isms’ are only constructions of the mind and have no other greater reality than that. He says, what we really need is communication. The art of communication will create the conditions of true government all over the world. It isn’t in the plan that we should all live under one system. We will move from the extremes of right and left toward the centre, and consensus will be the name of the game from now on.

We’re moving on from nuclear war, not only because Maitreya is here but certainly as a result of His actions. The new technology has been given to the world. It is called the Technology of Light. A group of scientists in America and another group in the Soviet Union are now studying this technology, which He says will make all weaponry obsolete and He will emphasize that everything on earth, every tank, every gun, every missile will be immobilized by this new technology.

Of course, the coming of Maitreya doesn’t relieve the world of greed and avarice. Those who are greedy will remain greedy, those who are after power will go on searching for power, but by the changing of the conditions of life, they will be more and more redundant in their effects in the world. The world changes slowly — but we still have to make the changes ourselves. All the same, we will feel the momentum of change and the future will shift for us all.

Everybody in the world is responsible for maintaining the peace of the world and that is true for everyone, not just in America but everybody in the world, whoever they are, has a responsibility for world peace. Now, practically, in those so-called democracies, even if it is only putting their vote down on a card in a system which may or not work, everyone has the responsibility of using their vote and weighing the results in that way. They have more responsibility than have the starving millions in the world or the poor and the hungry, those who have no connection to any political party and so have no means of making their needs known.

Needless to say, they are the ones with the greatest need of all. But they have no voice and it is precisely that voice which Maitreya will give them. He will give a voice to the needs of the poor, the hungry, the displaced, the prisoners of the world. Hundreds of thousands of people are in jail simply for the crime of having a different point of view than that of the present government, and these people have no voice. They take it for granted that they will be incarcerated and languish in prison; very often they are also tortured. Maitreya will speak for them and for all who need a voice and have no voice.

But those who have today a voice — since you have the education, the voting system and a degree of democracy, you have a special responsibility.

I’m talking about the gaining of unity through political action and the need for the realization by all people — the educated, the articulate people of the world to make known, to see, to understand and realize the need for unity on an international scale. Hence the necessity for all of the nations of the world to work together. Nothing will change if they don’t.

Karmic healing works like this: in a given situation the Master can use a certain amount of energy under the Law. In some cases, particularly in the case of a child, this will be enough to provide a total or partial cure. In other, older, children or more severe cases, it will only prevent the backsliding of a condition. When the karmic condition changes once more, more energy becomes available and is administered, with greater or lesser effect, as the case may be. This pattern is repeated until the patient is cured or alleviated to the degree that the total karma permits.

This is decided during the process of the formulation of its purpose or purposes for future incarnations. The soul needs all experiences.

It is not a random process. The choices made are entirely made by the soul.

No, not necessarily so in either case. It is altogether more complex than that: it is a question of culture, conditioning (both in the family and within the culture) and generational influence; it is also a matter of the influence of the rays and their interaction in the person.

Yes, constantly. All the Masters are in constant telepathic communication. They share a mental consciousness, a group consciousness. They don’t have a sense of Themselves as a separated self, only as a group. From Maitreya’s point of view, there is no separation between Him and us. He said: “Nothing separates Me from you and soon many will realize this.” I am flooded with communications from people who know our work giving us experiences of where they have seen Maitreya or had a vision of Maitreya. He’s appeared to them in various ways and sometimes in the most unlikely settings and so on, and this is happening all over the world.

He has said: “Those who will look for Me in terms of My beloved disciple the Master Jesus will find His qualities in me. Those who look for Me as a Teacher are nearer the mark for that is what I am. I have not come to found a new religion, have not come to create followers. I have come to teach humanity the art of Self or God Realization.” This is something which concerns all people. It is the goal of our lives.

He’s living in the outskirts of Rome working through His disciples. Two of His immediate, rather advanced, disciples are Cardinals in the Curia around the Pope and they know exactly the Plan and work consciously with the Master Jesus. But Jesus has disciples all over the world. He is in charge, if I can put it that way, of the Christian churches wherever they are to be found.

Certainly Transmission Meditation helps you to come into contact with the soul. That is what meditation is for — any meditation. It is the means, more or less scientific, depending on the meditation, of bringing the person in contact with their own soul; the first way to find yourself is through meditation.
There is a meditation for everybody and eventually, as you reach farther along the path of evolution, the soul directs the person, the man or woman on the physical plane, into meditation of some kind. It may be very fleeting in the very beginning but eventually it becomes a powerful part of that person’s life and this connects it with the soul. The soul then can grip its reflection which is the man or woman on the physical plane and bend it to its will and purpose. The soul’s purpose is to serve and as soon as you make contact with the soul you desire to serve. It’s automatic because the purpose of the soul is to serve. It’s not the personality that desires to serve. It is the soul and you cannot have soul contact without the desire to serve. You may serve or not — it depends on you but if it’s your soul purpose, it’s wiser, of course, to do it than not.

Crime and the drug problems are the result of the fact that people don’t really know, and therefore cannot express, who they really are. Every single person is a soul, a divine reflection of God in incarnation in a physical body. But because of poor education, conditioning or social conditions that work against them, they cannot reflect that divinity in everyday life and so they are at war with themselves and, as an extension of themselves, they are in conflict with the society of which they are a part. The more society is divided, the more there are rich and poor societies, rich and poor nations, rich and poor within nations, the more the separation occurs. And that inevitably leads to more fragmented societies, more crime, and more drug-taking.

People take drugs to escape their life, to break the tensions in their life; and they do so with a sense of uselessness, a sense they are something great but cannot give it expression. They feel frustrated, hostile and think “What’s the use? I might just as well kill myself.” And for many who take drugs, it is really slow suicide. They know inevitably they are going to die and that’s what they want to do because they’ve lost all self-respect. A person feels alienated from society and people who feel desperate turn to crime or antisocial behaviour like drugs.

The first thing is to inculcate self-respect. Without that, no progress can be made. Self-respect gradually grows into self-awareness and from self-awareness, you become Self-realized or soul-realized and that is the goal for all humanity. You have to practice it. You have to actually do it. Practice it. If you practice honesty of mind, sincerity of spirit and detachment, then you will know yourself. You’ll know God. It is as simple as that.

This unbalanced world is the result of our destructive thought forms, our own destructive attitudes that bring imbalance to the world. For example, we have earthquakes and more earthquakes. They will continue as long as we carry out underground nuclear explosions; it’s inevitable. So it’s in our own hands.

I don’t mean that they are responsible for all the earthquakes. There are different reasons for earthquakes. [But] the vast majority of the present earthquakes are the direct result of the so-called controlled underground nuclear explosions. You cannot have one without causing an earthquake somewhere in the world.

The other effect of our wrong thought and actions is the influence it has on the weather. People don’t see the connection, but everything in nature is inter-connected. The destructive thought forms of humanity antagonize and, as it were, shock out of equilibrium the elemental forces which look after the weather patterns of the world. That’s why we have these most extraordinary, unbalanced weather patterns everywhere. As soon as we come into equilibrium, as soon as we create peace and justice and therefore harmony in the world, then the elementals themselves will also come into equilibrium and the weather patterns will be restored to their ancient rhythm.

Mississippi floods, the earthquakes, the torrential rain, the unseasonal weather, the hurricanes and all of that. To some extent we always have that but not with this intensity and out of season, and so on. All of that is the direct result of the destructive thought forms of humanity. We have to recognize the great Law of Cause and Effect. Every thought, every action we have sets into motion a cause and the effects of these causes make our lives for good or ill. We are doing it to ourselves.

Well, you cannot contact a Master. You can be contacted by a Master if They see any reason why They should. First of all, you have to become what’s called mentally polarized. The polarization of your consciousness has to be on the higher mental planes because They work at the soul level. But if you fit yourself for service in the world and by being objective enough, open and ready to do this work in an altruistic fashion, then They may contact you.

People are contacted and have been contacted since the beginning of time. All the great artists, the thinkers, the poets, the writers, the musicians, the great world statesmen, the discoverers of science; these are all disciples of the Masters. They have worked under the supervision of the Masters as I am doing, even internally, subjectively in response to what is given to them on the soul level. In this way, they have carried out the Masters’ work in the world. This is the way our civilizations and cultures have grown in the eons of time.

It will be one of unity. Maitreya has said the first, absolutely the first, essential step that humanity has to take is to see itself as one; that we are brothers and sisters of one humanity under the one God.

The crop circles are the most elaborate constructions, beautiful designs and shapes of infinite variety, of geometrical configurations which could only be made by super-intelligences with some kind of super technology. They are made in precise proportions by people who we call the Space Brothers — whose work it is to help salvage earth, mopping up, in accordance with karmic Law, a great deal of the noxious nuclear radiation that we pour into our atmosphere, which is killing people.

If you went to Venus or Mars or Jupiter you would see nobody but they are teeming with life. We just sent this little trolley [Mars Pathfinder] to Mars to take pictures. They won’t see anybody there but there are more people there than on this planet. They are in etheric physical matter which is finer than dense physical matter. These etheric planes of matter are the next phase of the material world to be researched and finally demonstrated by modern science. Then the etheric planes will become a reality and more and more people will be born with the ability to see the etheric planes of matter.

The spaceships are made by thought, by thought itself — simply by thinking. One day, partly through their agency but mainly through the stimulus of Maitreya and the other Masters living openly in the world, we too will make machinery which will create all the artifacts of our civilization.

There is a rise of fascism in many countries. It is to do with the collapse of the old ways and the beginning of the successes of the new. The situation will turn for the better soon. The storm is nearly over. It’s losing its intensity, according to my Master, even if we do not recognize it yet.

My Master says that a struggle was expected but not with the horrible barbarity of today. He adds that it won’t last much longer but that it must run its course, if we are to have peace: “The chaos has to run its course but it will not be long until a New Dispensation will come.”

One pressing problem is that of over-population. The world is not big enough to support the present world population. The population is growing very rapidly. There is a struggle for supremacy of space.

Turmoil is nearly always the result of the change from one Cosmic state to another. So many people are still tied to the old ways. Chaos results from the movement from the old order to the new. My Master says: “A lot of people are too worried or too unaware to recognize the need for another way of acting and being.” Nor do they notice or recognize the decrease in the intensity of the present difficulties.

He plays a very powerful part, which is not generally known. He works with, and in a sense stands behind, Maitreya all the time … and affects His thinking in relation to the East. There is an ancient Eastern teaching about what are called “the vestures of the Buddha”, at present safely hidden, but which will be taken up by the Christ, the ‘Coming One’. These ‘vestures’ are the sum total of the Buddha’s emotional-intuitive nature and of His knowledge and thought, ie the astral and mental bodies of the Buddha. They augment the emotional and mental equipment of the Christ Himself. The Buddha embodies the energy of wisdom, Maitreya the energy of love. In relation to the East, Maitreya thus gains the experience of the Buddha, and through the use of the Buddha’s emotional-mental equipment is able to enter into the consciousness of the Eastern mind, presumably to a deeper extent than would otherwise be possible. The Buddha now embodies the wisdom aspect from cosmic levels and He transmits this energy through Maitreya into the world.

What is possible and inevitable, what is destined for each of us is to embody that principle and to demonstrate that in our lives. That’s what it means. That’s the rub. It’s easy to say, “I believe in the Christ principle. I believe it is in me and everyone”, but where is the proof? Where is the expression of it? If this was so, there would be no wars. There wouldn’t be people starving to death in the midst of plenty. No child anywhere would go hungry. There wouldn’t be 800 million people living in degradation in poverty today, living in conditions in what is called absolute poverty. If the Christ principle were really demonstrating in humanity, none of that would be the case because it is a glamour when people say, “The Christ is in me. I don’t need to meet Him in London or wherever. The Christ is in me.” The Christ is in you. How are you showing it? Demonstrate it. You have to face the reality that the Christ principle means you live according to the nature of that principle which is freedom, justice, sharing, right relationships. That is the nature of the Christ principle.

The major spiritual problem everywhere in the world, not just in the United States, is what Maitreya calls “the root of evil”. You think I’m going to say money but it isn’t money, although it’s connected, it is complacency. Maitreya says complacency is the cardinal sin. It is because of that complacency that rich nations like yours and mine can watch millions of people starving to death, and millions of people living in squalid conditions, ridden with disease and all of that and say, “Well, there’s not much we can do about it. They still have to pay the interest on the loans.”

Complacency breeds that attitude: “It doesn’t matter what happened out there. They’re black or they’re yellow or they’re brown. They’re not like us. They don’t deserve any better life. Market forces will take care of it all.”

This is the most extraordinary rationalization of our own greed, our own selfishness, that market forces are the fundamental basis of economy. They’re not. They would be if we all started at the same point, but we don’t. How can market forces be rational, in any sense realistic or just, when some nations are colossal and some are tiny, some have enormous resources and some have almost none? How then could market forces play in any real sense on a just basis? It’s utterly unjust and only complacency allows it to happen.

What besets humanity today is a great spiritual problem; it is focused in the political and economic field and it can only be solved in the political and economic field. …

The major concern for this country is complacency, which is corruption – it is corruption itself. Economic corruption, which riddles this country from top to bottom, and the resulting crime and drugs are bringing this country to its knees. What can you do about them? You can stand up and talk like I’m talking; talk about the reality. When it comes to election time your representative will answer certain questions; you can say you will vote for him or her, if they will stand up and be counted in demonstrating their lack of complacency, demonstrating their concern for the exploited masses, especially in the developing world.

The number one priority will be the provision of adequate food for all the people; two, the provision of adequate housing and shelter for all the people; three, the provision of adequate healthcare and education for all the people — as are given by the Universal [Declaration of Human] Rights. These don’t seem terribly revolutionary. Nothing is so simple — enough food, enough shelter, enough health care and education — not much to ask. Yet there is no country in the world in which all of these pertain as a universal right; not one country, not even the richest country in the world. And when they do accept that, they will transform life for humanity.

The first thing to understand is that UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) may be unidentified by the government agencies, but they are real, they exist and they have a mission. Without their help this planet would by now be uninhabitable. There are people on all the planets of our system. The Masters of our planet are in touch with the Masters of the various planets and the solar system acts as a unit. The planets are not isolated but are in contact moment to moment, and they evolve together. If one falls behind, as this planet has done, it causes concern for the others.

The beings in the UFOs, from whatever planet — mainly Mars and Venus but others too — have a tremendous task in working to eliminate, or at least reduce, pollution. Pollution is the greatest threat to humanity. More deaths are caused by it than by any other cause. It brings about the breakdown of our immune systems and therefore opens us to all sorts of illnesses to which we would otherwise be immune.

The space people are concerned with making this planet habitable. They go through our skies mopping up and neutralizing large amounts of the nuclear waste and the general toxic filth that we pour into the atmosphere. They are not allowed by karma to clean up the planet completely, but within karmic limits they do so. Otherwise, life on this planet would be very painful indeed: more people would be dying than are dying, more people would be suffering from Alzheimer’s, and daily we would be more and more asphyxiated. To me, education is every aspect of activity which fits a man, a woman or a child for the fullest expression of its potential, coming into life at a certain stage of development, carrying on from a previous life. The individual comes in with a certain given potential in terms of soul expression, of intelligence, of expression and physical equipment, and whatever it brings into that life. So education for me would be the fitting of a man, woman or child on the physical plane, on the emotional plane, on the mental plane and the spiritual plane for it to bring out his or her fullest potential in any given life.

When the physical body dies (we say ‘dies’ but there is no such thing as death), it withers away — and is either buried or, preferably, cremated. There are three permanent atoms of that body that are kept intact, that are never destroyed: one atom from each vehicle: one from the physical, one from the astral-emotional body, and the mental permanent atom. These three permanent atoms provide the continuity from life to life. The soul is making the journey: it is not only the parents who are involved in the creation of a new body but the soul that creates the baby in the womb and through the permanent atoms grows the physical, astral and mental equipment of its new vehicle. The new vehicle is related to the old vehicle through the permanent atoms but it is a new body altogether. The previous personality of you is gone; it is not the same person who has incarnated, but it is the soul which incarnates over and over.

We are witnessing exactly the problems of today with a period of upheaval and turmoil stemming from the status quo. When Maitreya appears to the world, when He gives His call for justice and freedom, then the whole process will speed up. We are witnessing the death throes of a civilization and the birth pangs of a new civilization. Turmoil and upheaval are inevitable in this process.

This a question about the Earth tipping on its axis and land masses going into the sea. None of this is going to happen. Inevitably, there is turmoil. We’re witnessing that – volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, floods, incredible weather conditions and so on. We also have millions of people in crime, millions of people on drugs; all of that chaos is the result of the rising to the surface of the corruption and the greed and the filth of the past. All of it allows us to see what it is that we’re addressing or failing to address. If we can’t see it, then we will never address it. If it is not seen, it continues festering underneath. So, it is rising to the surface.
Maitreya is pouring new energies into the world which purifies humanity. All of this chaos and destructiveness and turmoil is the result of purification individually, nationally and internationally. We’re witnessing the process of the regeneration of the world and, of course, for a time, it is painful.

The Christ doesn’t come to wave a magic wand and make everything bright and beautiful as people might imagine. He doesn’t come to ‘judge’ as the Christians groups would say. He comes to teach. But we have to save ourselves by responding to the Teachings and we have to build the new structures — political, economic, religious, social, scientific, cultural and so on. We have to do it, every brick, every stone of the new civilization has to be put in place by humanity — by itself, inspired by the Christ. The energy will come from Him — the teachings and the counsel, the guidance, the care and the protection will come from Him, but we have to actually want the changes, gladly, willingly accept these changes and the sacrifices that these changes will mean. We have to do it in order that all people everywhere can live decent, civilized, dignified human lives.

The creation of justice and freedom through the sharing of essential resources throughout the world. Sharing is inevitable, and the sooner understood and implemented, the sooner peace and security for all will be achieved. This is true for the Middle East and the world in general. It is easy to say they should negotiate, but the gap between the two sides is very wide and I am convinced that it will take Maitreya to bring them together. The problem is that a negotiated peace has to be fair to last. So far, the Palestinians have never been offered a fair or just solution. Nor has Israel been open to negotiation on crucial matters of difference. I believe that a worldwide embargo of Israel, such as was applied to South Africa, and led to the end of apartheid, would be the most effective way to bring Israel to the negotiating table. To my mind, the first task is to organize an international Conference to address the many problems which exist there. Number one on the agenda, I believe, must be the Israeli-Palestinian problem. A homeland for the Palestinians can be the only just solution, otherwise no lasting peace is possible. I believe the Israelis will procrastinate endlessly and it may well take the emergence of Maitreya to bring about reconciliation. The recent action by the PLO in siding with Iraq and Saddam Hussein in the Gulf conflict has not helped their cause, however just. It seems impossible for the PLO leadership to miss an opportunity of missing an opportunity! However, right is on their side, and now most of the interested nations involved, even the US, at last recognize that right.

Democratic governments and consensus politics must take over from the various autocratic military dictatorships and sheikdoms which now exist. Syria, for example, has a military dictatorship of the most repressive kind, every bit as bad and as ambitious as that of Saddam Hussein. All of that is overlooked because they joined ‘the club’ against Iraq, a major rival. The greed and autocratic rule of the Kuwaiti and Saudi governing families is notorious. A redistribution of wealth among the people of the region must be high on the agenda. It will take a long time, perhaps years, for such a transformation to come about, but one thing can be achieved immediately: the ending — a complete embargo, I suggest — of the irresponsible supplying of sophisticated weapons of mass destruction to the region. This cynical trade — based on ‘market forces’ — acts only to fan the flames of war. Surely that must be obvious to everyone now. (Share International April 1991)

By the use of every diplomatic pressure that can be brought to bear, and above all by economic and financial pressure. (1) Yes, so far as it goes, it is practicable. It means, though, considerable sacrifices and compromises from both sides, especially from the Palestinians. (2) No, I do not think it meets, fairly, the Palestinian demands and needs, and so cannot be called just or fair. It should always be remembered that the creation of Israel on Palestinian soil is an infringement of Palestinian rights and some 4.5 millions are still refugees in Lebanon. [July 2003]

‘Mindless violence and destruction’ is not a demonstration of people power but of destructive power. Hierarchy would never encourage or condone violence or destruction. [October 2011]

To say you support the Israeli government and its practices begs a lot of questions. Does he support the terror force that is used against the Palestinian people? If you were to ask him that, what would he say? I personally do not support the Israeli action in Palestine. But do I support Israel as a member of the United Nations? It is a member of the United Nations, but does not obey the United Nations Charter and has outstanding 63 United Nations resolutions against it. They have not implemented these resolutions because of the support of the United States. If you took away the support of the United States, Israel would be bankrupt in six months.

You have to ask Senator Kerry if he supports the stance that Israel takes, not just to defend itself, because this is the excuse given for the oppression of the Palestinian people. Israel could easily defend itself against what they call terrorist attacks without oppressing the Palestinians. If they stopped the oppression of the Palestinians in every department, they would find less pressure from the terrorist attacks, the suicide bombers, which terrify them more than anything else.

Somebody gets on a bus and blows himself up. Why do they do it? Because that is all they are left with; they have neither army nor weapons. They also know that it is very powerful in its effect. They believe they will return to Allah quickly and be a martyr, and that their family will get some money. They are deliberately kept poor by the Israelis, who make it impossible for them to work or even to get into Israel to do the work that they used to do. They have orchards, which the Israelis cut down. So how are they to live? They are in despair, with no hope for the future.

The Israelis do not care if the Palestinians live or die. They would rather they died. It is not that they actually want to go and shoot all these Palestinians. Some do, absolutely, in the same way that certain Palestinians want to go and shoot every Israeli. But they want to make things so difficult for the Palestinians that they will just go away, to Syria, Lebanon or Jordan, and the Israelis will be finished with that problem — and the guilt of their actions.

The Israelis have a real problem because they have stolen the land of the Palestinian people. They know that, and they know the Law of Karma. They know that one day they will have to give it back. It frightens and irks them, and so they are using every means they can, however illegal, however disgusting and horrible, from our point of view, to force the Palestinian people into succumbing, which means giving up terror.

They will never be able to make some Palestinians — Hamas, the Hezbollah in Lebanon or Syria — give up terrorism because it is the only weapon they have. There are Palestinians who will never accept the right of Israel to exist, just as there are as many Israelis who will not accept the right of Palestinians to the land which is theirs by right. Not even the land which we call the West Bank, which is theirs by right of the gift given to the Palestinian people by the late King of Jordan at the request of Maitreya. Until some kind of compromise, some meeting of minds takes place between the Israelis and Palestinians on this subject, there will be fighting and terror all the time.

I have said from the beginning that this situation can only be solved by Maitreya. I am convinced that is still the case. Nothing which I have heard, nothing which has happened, has led me to see it in any other way.

One of the first predictions that Maitreya gave in 1988 was: “The Palestinians will have their homeland. The Israeli army will withdraw from the West Bank and Gaza, and the two nations will live together, sharing together the resources of the area.” That will happen only when Maitreya is accepted after the Day of Declaration. The Israelis have a great deal to give up in the coming year or two, or whatever it takes.

Guilt and fear are very much related. Guilt is the result of fear. The fundamental situation that creates fear also creates guilt. The fear is that you have sinned. It is the result of wrong teaching by the Christian groups for 2,000 years, which has instilled fear and guilt into 1,000 million Christian people. In every incarnation they meet the same thing — fear instilling guilt and guilt instilling fear, and the terrible effect on the sense of self-esteem that such teaching has. That, together with countless and age-old superstitions that fill the minds of people of other religious traditions, makes fear and guilt a powerful blockage on the way to awakening consciousness.

A large part of Maitreya’s time will be taken up in removing fear and guilt from humanity. He will not simply manipulate it and get rid of it but His teaching is fashioned to remove fear and guilt. He has given you the way; you know it already. The way to remove fear and guilt is to practise the three techniques that Maitreya suggests. Instil, acquire, build into yourself honesty of mind, sincerity of spirit, and detachment. If done assiduously, correctly, these inevitably build the detachment in which fear and guilt disappear.

If you are detached, you are free of guilt and fear. It could not be otherwise. Guilt and fear exist out of attachment. If you are attached to your beliefs — Christian, Muslim or Buddhist — and you do things that are against your beliefs, you live in guilt and fear. For example, Roman Catholics are told that they should not have sex outside marriage, and that even within marriage they should not use contraception. Yet millions of Catholics do that, and they live in the guilt instilled by their action. …

Maitreya will remove this guilt and fear from humanity by talking common sense. You can remove it from yourself by practising detachment. It is all to do with detachment. If you are attached to your retribution because of your fear of retribution, you feel guilty. If you are not attached, there is no fear, there is no guilt. …

My information is that the Hierarchy would intervene. The threat would not be allowed to run that far. Steps would be taken to prevent its detonation. I do not know how, but it would be done.
The danger is the destructiveness that humanity has at its control. That is why it is so imperative that Maitreya makes Himself known and leads us back from the precipice. He has never been so needed as He is today because the problems, which are the problems of life or death, have never been so concentrated as they are today.

This relates to the period after Declaration Day. It is an experience for the whole of humanity — humanity will be faced with a choice and make the decision to reject gross materialism. Mankind today is shackled by materialism. It has rejected its relationship to God, to reality, to the whole natural world of which it is a part. Man has despoiled that world and stands in totally wrong relationship with himself — in other words we stand in wrong relationship with one another. As a result, and in place of correct relationship, it has set up a material existence which is altogether false. I don’t mean that one shouldn’t have washing machines, or cars, or eat, or have a meal in a restaurant, and so on. What I mean is that a large section of humanity — some two-thirds of the world — lives in utter degradation and misery, while at the same time one-third of the world lives in luxury. This is obscene. If you go to Southern California, West Germany or Japan you will see luxury and opulence which are unthinkable in large sections of the world. It is this deeply unspiritual situation, the lack of right relationship, to which I refer as gross materialism. Masses of people are wedded to a materialism which they will need to reject. For a time, humanity will have to give up its lust for goods, for material living at the expense of the spiritual life. There is nothing wrong with what the Americans call prosperity. What is wrong is that it is unrelated to the inner reality, the divinity of man, to the world as a whole. In that situation it is grossly unjust. The wilderness experience, particularly for the West, is the acceptance of a simpler way of life, so that all people everywhere can live. In fact, it is really the releasing of humanity from the glamour of materialism which it is one of the main tasks of the Christ. It is this glamour, this fog of unreality, which prevents man from knowing who he really is and what the meaning of life really is. [Originally published in Share International, December 1982]

(1) Obviously, the Oedipus complex exists: people did and do love and simultaneously hate their parents. They carry this unresolved dichotomy into all later relationships. This is Freud’s basic clinical, objective finding. That it is inevitable and unavoidable is another matter. From the point of view of esotericism this need not be so — it is a socially conditioned phenomenon, the result of wrong human relationships passed on from generation to generation. The degree to which it exists, moreover, depends on the point of evolution of the individual, in particular whether he or she is mentally or astrally [emotionally] polarized. For the advanced, mentally polarized disciple, this need not be the case at all. He is usually well able to cope with his conflicting emotions and bring about a resolution. The more advanced the individual the more will this be the case.

(2) The big gap in the thinking of modern psychology and psychoanalysis (a gap soon to be filled) is the omission (except in the case of Jung and his followers) of the concept of the human soul and its incarnational cycles. Of necessity, this position also neglects the fundamental concept of karma.

The Seven Rays and their powerful conditioning influences remain as yet a closed book to modern psychologists. Until the nature of the threefold human constitution — spirit, soul, personality — is known and accepted; until the fact of reincarnation, the influences of karma and of an individual’s rays are taken into account; until the soul’s nature and individual purpose can be ascertained, modern psychology cannot further advance. At the moment, except for the pioneer work of Wilhelm Reich, which led him from the concept of the unitary basis of neurosis to the discovery of primordial energy, it is, generally speaking, at odds with itself. While doing much useful therapeutic work in amelioration of the effects of neurosis, it is waiting, albeit unknowingly, for the next great step forward — the ‘discovery’ of the human soul.

I have to tell you, Maitreya Himself believes it is just about time, but we have to start now. We have to start cleaning up the planet of all the pollution that is in the water and the soil, the rivers. Everything we touch, we destroy; we make it toxic and lethal, so we have to change. We have to learn to live with our environment and make a sustainable economy, not only for our own sakes but for our children’s and our children’s children, and so on down the ages. We have maybe 20 years in which to clean up the mess.

We are creating not all but a large amount of destruction. Much of the destruction, like tornados and fires and so on, are not man-made. They are the result of what we call sunspot activity, radiation from the sun and so on, which upsets our weather patterns. But the destructive thought-forms of humanity itself are the greatest agencies for the weather.

We are all connected to everything. There is no break in the connection between man or between other forms, like angelic beings, and what we call Nature — all of that is one. We are a totality, and you cannot do anything anywhere that does not, sometime later, rebound in cosmos as a whole. Every action is interrelated with any other action.

When we have underground nuclear explosions, as we had recently in Japan and then in India and Pakistan, it’s almost inevitable that there will be an earthquake somewhere else, not necessarily nearby; it could be thousands of miles away. The underground earthquakes that the Indians created are thought to have probably produced the terrible earthquake in Afghanistan. It didn’t. But the earthquake that was Pakistani, from an explosion that they set off, caused the earthquake which occurred in Bolivia.

So we are all related. But when we go out of equilibrium — which we are doing now with our destructive thought-forms through the creation of schisms in religions of the world, the wars, the pestilence, the wrong relationships, the greed, the suffering and all of that — we affect our devic, or angelic, evolution in which our weather is powerfully held; and if we go out of equilibrium, they go out of equilibrium. When we come back into equilibrium, they too, will come back into equilibrium, and the weather patterns will be restored to their original nature.

By visualizing or thinking of the intercessor. (1) (a) Yes. (b) No. (2) To some extent, yes.

There are stages in the use of prayer — from desire-based supplication to, more, or less, scientific invocation. It depends on the evolution of the one doing the ‘praying’.

It always requires an intercessory agent.

(1) None. It depends on what one is able to do. (2) Both the demonstration of prayer and serving a need as she encountered it.

Prayer is more from desire. Invocation (with or without mantra) is the most scientific. Affirmation is somewhere in the middle, depending on the person affirming.

It really does not matter to Whom you pray; the important thing is to believe in the one you choose. The more conscious the approach, the more mental, the more the will is involved, and the greater the faith of contact, the more the likelihood of the prayer being heard and, within karmic law, answered. My recommendation is to pray to Maitreya, as Representative of God, Divine Intermediary, not least because He has promised to answer the prayers of those who need His help. I would suggest that we should not pray for, and expect to receive, material goods or solutions to life problems, which it is our responsibility to find or work out for ourselves.

Maitreya’s decision to return as soon as possible was announced in 1945. This decision was in large measure due to the invocative cry for help from humanity. (The decision to make London His ‘point of focus’ has different reasons.) People cried for help in every language, not to Maitreya particularly but to God, to ‘up there’, just crying out “Please! Please! – Reality, God, Cosmos, help us!” When we pray to God, to Maitreya, or whomever, for peace, to my mind it is going about it the wrong way. We have to do it ourselves. Pray for help, for energy, for guidance, for inspiration, to bring about peace, but we have to make the peace. We cannot just sit back and think God will make peace. God has peace; God is peace. There is already peace but we disturb the peace.

Prayer is a stage of the great science of invocation and works by setting up a telepathic link or conduit through the common denominator of mind. The stronger the mental focus the greater the degree of mental communication achieved. Most prayer, however, is astral/emotional in focus and so less ‘sure’ of response.

The power of prayer is based on the reality that there is no separation: all atoms, throughout cosmos, are linked. The effectiveness of prayer depends upon the level of focused thought attained by the praying agent. Most prayer is supplication stemming from the astral desire-nature of that agent and is thus limited in scope. Prayer at its higher level is possible through the focused mind; on a yet higher level on the love intention of the soul-infused disciple, the soul itself thus being the agent. The response to prayer is conditioned by the Law of Cause and Effect (the Law of Karma as it is called in the East) and the degree of intervention allowed to the Masters of Wisdom as the Divine Intermediaries. Thus Jesus, the Madonna, Krishna, Mohammed, and a host of Saints of all religions are prayed to for intercession. They can, and do, act as intermediaries as the Law allows.

(1) Yes. (2) The energy invoked by the prayer saturates the diseased cells, filling them with light. This energy enters the body through the ‘chakras’, or force centres, in the etheric counterpart body and through the endocrine system changes the nature of the cells.

This question came up when I was on a radio programme with a Roman Catholic priest, a fundamentalist Baptist minister, and a rabbi. The rabbi took it as the building of the temple, literally, in Jerusalem, and when that was built the Messiah would come. There are plans already made in the hands of the Israeli government for the rebuilding of the temple. The blueprints are ready, they could go to work tomorrow. They want to make sure that Jerusalem means the head of the Jewish state and only the Jewish state. This is why they have not gone forward. They know it would be a real faux pas in the present situation. They are waiting until gentler times to do it, but they could start tomorrow.

Nobody seemed to know too well what the building of the temple was, so I put in my penny’s worth. I said that the building of the temple was a symbolic statement. It does not involve the rebuilding of the physical temple. Jerusalem means “the city of peace.” When the world is at peace, the Messiah comes, the Christ returns to the world. That is what Maitreya said in 1945: when a measure of peace had been restored, He would return. World peace had been established, even if later threatened by the Cold War. But in a world sense, peace had come. There are still many small wars today, but they do not on the whole, except in the Middle East, threaten world peace. With the ending of the Cold War, even that threat has receded. The building of the temple is the building of the Body of Christ; when the Christ Principle is manifesting through all people, whether they call it the Christ Principle or not. When that energy, embodied by Maitreya, flowing through the hearts of all humanity, creates peace in the world, we have the building of the temple in the city of peace.

It is obvious from the article in this issue [Share International, November 2004] that Hierarchy see this coming election in the USA as critical for the immediate future of the world.

It would seem that some readers are concerned by our degree of interest in, and the amount of space devoted to, the American presidential election in November. Surely, they seem to think, it is not the place of a spiritually based magazine to concern itself with politics, especially American politics, when everyone knows, do they not, that both parties are corrupt, with nothing to choose between them. This is certainly not the case.

I must confess to being puzzled by such a response to the events which have shaken the world for several years. Share International exists to make known the fact of Hierarchy, its return to the everyday world, and its plans and concerns now and in the future. In relation to the coming US election, these concerns have been cogently expressed in recent articles by my Master. Let me quote from His article in the current issue. Nothing could be clearer or less ambivalent. Why should the voice of Share International be less honest and true?

“When American citizens go to the polls in November, they will have the opportunity to change the course of history.”

“As the day of destiny approaches…”

“We, your Elder Brothers, cannot stand aside and watch while the very future of the world is under threat.”

“This election can be a great turning point in the affairs of men.”

Because I am interested in love, in justice and freedom for everyone. Politics, economics, that is reality. That is spiritual. Where do you stop being spiritual? When do you stop being spiritual? How do you measure the degree of spirituality in a person? Everything in life is spiritual; we live in a spiritual universe. It could not be otherwise. The trouble is, we do not make it spiritual. We have the most corrupt politics that have ever been devised, the most corrupt economic structures ever devised by man. They are not spiritual but they should be, and must be, spiritual.

What I am talking about is spiritual politics, spiritual economics, and you will find that the Christ Himself, the Lord Maitreya Himself, the World Teacher, will concentrate in the beginning on politics and on economics. What I am saying comes from Him. These are His thoughts, His ideas. Politics, economics, should be the most spiritual things. Politics is about how people live together and economics is about how we distribute the world’s resources. If you are not spiritual, you do it badly, like today. Who is spiritual – these spiritual teachers you are talking about, or me; who is interested in how people live? You cannot talk about spiritual development to people who have to work 16 hours a day for a dollar a day, to keep their family from starving. The crisis today is a spiritual one, and is focused in the political and economic fields, and can only be resolved in these fields.

Make your voice heard in opposition to such folly. Demonstrate. March. Write to your representatives in Congress/Parliament, etc, etc. (Share International October 2008)

Join together with groups and work to create the ‘voice of the people’. Add your voice to the voice of all the other people — the ordinary people not in positions of glamorous power and illusionary wisdom. Add your weight by marching on demonstrations whenever they are arranged. Build up the concept of ‘the people’s voice’ — which eventually will be the most powerful force in the world when it is educated by the ideas of Maitreya, focused by Maitreya, approaching the various problems of humanity in a realistic way. This will build up the most powerful force: of an educated, focused, world public opinion — a force against which no government can stand. Add your voice to the voices of the countless millions.

On 15 February 2003, 12.5 million people across the world marched against the war in Iraq and related issues of justice and freedom. Nearly 2 million of those (1,800,000) were in London, and they included Maitreya. He thinks it is worth joining the marches and He has joined in the demonstrations across the world. Make your voice heard. Speak out for what you believe. If you believe in justice and freedom for all — say so.

Write articles, send them to the newspapers. Make known your mind on this, as your contribution to humanity’s liberation from the ancient thraldom of glamour, illusion and oppression.

They are responding to their sense of fair play and you could say that comes from Maitreya or you could say these ideas have always been there in people of goodwill. They have the courage to stand up against the general consensus, which in Israel is that it is not a question of oppression and domination. Israel thinks it is a necessary act of self-protection; they have to protect themselves. It is a lie, or largely a lie. They claim they are oppressing the Palestinians entirely for self-protection, but it is taken to such a degree. You do not protect yourself by the arbitrary blowing up of several buildings every night in Palestinian areas. It does not matter if people are killed or injured or if they have nowhere to go. It is just making it clear to the Palestinians that “We are strong, we can do whatever we like. We can blow up these 5 buildings tonight; tomorrow night it could be 20, by the end of the week it could be 100. We are powerful, we have arms, ammunition, tanks, planes, helicopters, to bomb and shell whenever we like. We are dominant in this country, we mean to stay — and if it means killing every single Palestinian in the process, so be it. We will not stand suicide bombers coming in. We have the right to self protection.” And, of course, they have the right. Every country has the right to self protection. That is the only way they see it. But what they will not see is that their domination and oppression are the very causes of the suicide bombing. They cannot stand the suicide bombers, because they never know where they will strike next.

The Palestinians have no armour at all except for a few rifles. The Israelis can stand that. They have a far more efficient armoury — the latest and best American armoury. They are given by the Americans $3 billion every year to buy arms — their army is the most powerful in the area, and one of the most powerful in the world. At the present time homeopathy tends to be more successful in chronic rather than acute cases. As deeper understanding of its processes becomes available this will not always be so. Also, children often respond better (probably because of having had less time to accumulate toxins, their bodies react more readily to the remedies) than adults to this form of treatment.

It would seem that there is a psychological factor at work. Some people believe that taking the water direct is somehow better, purer (and therefore stronger in action) than the potencies; very many people do not know about, or believe in, homoeopathy. Actually, the potencies increase the effectiveness of the water and, of course, make it more generally available.

By ‘karmic’, I suppose, is meant the result of actions in previous lives or earlier in this life. All disease or ill health, except when it is hereditary, is karmic — the result of our misuse of energy from one level or another, that of the soul and, in astrally–polarized individuals, from the astral plane. Karmas can relate to yesterday or last week or a month ago or last year, and not necessarily to much earlier in this life, or even in a past life. We are making karma all the time, good and bad.

Because of man’s stupid dogmatism. It is dogmatism tied to an unrealistic idealism which makes every religious group think that their revelation is the one and only one. It is a kind of stupidity, the result of the sense of separation. As souls there is no separation. On the soul plane there is only one great Oversoul of which we are all individualized units. On the physical plane we appear to be separate, and since the revelations of each religion have been given over time to different groups, inevitably each group thought that this is the one and only.

The most explosive, I would think, is the Christian one, which you know is one of the latest; just as explosive, I suppose, as the Muslim religion. They are as related as probably as any two religions could be — one given by Maitreya through Jesus, and one given through Mohammed by Jesus. This is the extraordinary relationship between Islam and Christianity.

But each religion extends the vision that humanity has of itself and that super-reality we call God, and they are given to humanity to show there is no separation. One day we will recognize that what we call God or nature or humanity are one and the same. There is no separation in the whole of cosmos. Every atom is related to every other atom.

I think it is really the result of the teaching of St. Paul. He turned Christianity to churchianity by over-emphasizing the divinity of Jesus. Jesus is divine but everybody is divine and if you were to ask Jesus, “Are you more divine than I am?” He’d say, “No.” There is only one divinity. We all share it. Jesus never in His life claimed to be God. He called Himself throughout His life the Son of Man.

But when He died, St. Paul came, and he was an extremist. He was a Jew and a Christian-baiter yet he was an advanced being. He was a third degree initiate which meant that he was 3/5 on the way to being a Master, but was quite unaware of the fact. On his way to Damascus, he had a great experience. He fell off His horse and was blind for three days and then he became a Christian. But he became an extremist Christian and so he over-emphasized this divine revelation.

Now, the Christ principle is embodied by Maitreya, who was overshadowing Jesus for these last three years and Jesus became, in that time, the vehicle for the Messiah awaited by Jews; but Jews are still to recognize Jesus as the Messiah, probably before they can recognize Maitreya as the World Teacher.

The problem is the over-emphasizing of the divinity of Jesus by St. Paul, who created Christianity and the idea that Jesus was the one and only Son of God. There is no such being on earth, never has been and never will be. Every single soul is a son of God. That soul demonstrates sometimes as a man, sometimes a woman but every human soul is a part of the divinity we call God. We are a reflection of that. We are what Maitreya calls the Self and He says, “The Self alone matters. You are that Self, an immortal being.”

You could become a unified world in the American way, following the American economic system aligned with market forces based on competition, which serves a few well and the majority badly, and so creates the very schisms and anxieties, and eventually terrorism and war, that we have today. You might think that we could try to make the world one, in the sense of an American-style empire, a Pax Americana. Everyone would have the American idea of democracy, and somehow or other the world would go on greedily competing, without going to war. But this is a fantasy. It will never happen.
That is why we have war and terrorism today because the American view is of the past. And the world has been forced by its economic domination into forms of government and relationships which are intrinsically impossible for the future. The competition involved does not bring goodwill because it relates only to the past and has nothing to give to the future. Goodwill is certainly what we need, but competition does not bring goodwill; it is the very opposite. It breeds what you would imagine — fighting over markets and driving hard bargains against one’s competitors. That way leads to confrontation, and eventually war and more wars. It is the way of the past. It is really a choice between competition and co-operation. Co-operation is the way of the future, and the only way that will serve humanity.

The governments only know how to act in terms of the past, and these no longer apply. That is why there is no government on Earth today who can actually govern. They do their best, and all fail because fundamentally they are using outworn methods. Only one thing — the last thing to occur to them — will alter the present impasse into which they have all come, and that is to inaugurate the system of sharing.
As soon as they do that they will create the trust that will enable them to tackle all other problems co-operatively. They have to be solved co-operatively. You cannot impose solutions on nations who do not want them. It can only happen by co-operation, when the trust generated by sharing is there and allows the change to take place. Then the goodwill engendered by trust will make possible the solution of problems which today seem impossible to solve.

There are two aspects to this question. One is the global, the other, personal. Maitreya comes to inspire humanity to save the planet, and humanity from destroying itself. It is through His teaching that He seeks to inspire us to make that change. This is the expectation that most people have of him as a ‘Saviour’.
But we have to do the work for ourselves. As He said long ago, every stone, every brick must be set in place by humanity itself. (Agni Yoga: Leaves of Morya’s Garden). “I am the architect only of the Plan, you are the willing builders of the Temple of Truth.” (Messages from Maitreya the Christ)
The second aspect concerns His relationship to each individual. In this case He is not a saviour but again a teacher. We must save ourselves by correct response to His teaching. No one else can do this, not even Maitreya Himself. The World Teacher is a saviour, but He does not come to save us. He comes to teach, and we do the saving. By the correct response to the teachings, that is, making the teachings a dynamic force within our life, we save ourselves. Saving is knowing. When you become, and are, the Self, you have saved yourself.

Well, Jesus died on the cross, went out of incarnation. He was out of incarnation for seven years; he came back again as Apollonius of Tyana. On the cross, he took the fourth of the five initiations which make you a Master. As Apollonius he took the fifth initiation, became a Master, went to northern India, was buried there, and from there have come the many stories about it: that Jesus didn’t die on the cross, and was smuggled out of Palestine into India and is buried in north India. Others say he went to Rome, had a family and so on.

The truth is, from the esoteric point of view, Jesus died literally on the cross as the Gospel story tells, and was laid in the tomb for three days; on the third day the Lord Maitreya entered his body and brought down tremendous spiritual energy which caused its ionization onto the shroud around it; and that is the Turin Shroud of today. It is a photograph done by an ionization process which modern photography uses. This was done for the first time 2000 years ago in Palestine, and the Turin Shroud is the authentic burial shroud of Jesus. One day it will be claimed by him and I’m sure he will present it back to the Turin Cathedral.

Well, none of the Masters are household words. Jesus is the one who is the originator of Christianity. He came and acted as the vehicle for Maitreya to inaugurate the age of Pisces. It’s not an accident that the basis of all of the early Christian iconography is the symbol of the fish. The early Christians knew the mission of Jesus was to inaugurate the coming age of Pisces, which is now coming to an end. The fish is the age-old symbol for Pisces.

At the end of the Gospel story, Jesus told his followers to go into Jerusalem where they would see a man carrying a pitcher of water. He told them to follow that man to a house and prepare the Feast of the Passover. In that apparently insignificant little vignette, He [Maitreya, the Christ] was foreshadowed as the Teacher for this age of Aquarius, which is now beginning. The man carrying the pitcher is the age-old symbol for Aquarius.

Indeed. Eventually worship will die out in relation to religion. From the Masters’ point of view, the religious path is only one path to God. There are many paths — the political, the economic, the artistic, the philosophical, the religious, the scientific — whatever is your particular path in life, you can experience what we call God as a moment-to-moment experience. That means that religion is only a means to an end, which is this moment-to-moment experience.

Humanity approaches God stage by stage as it evolves, and worship relates to the generally emotional nature of humanity. But modern humanity is reaching upwards to a more mental and eventually a more spiritual understanding of the nature of the universe. As we evolve, what we call worship changes into a direct knowledge so that we can invoke the energies which we call God.

According to the Christian Bible, God is a consuming fire and, from the esoteric point of view, there is a basic axiom that everything in the manifested universe is energy. That energy vibrates at various frequencies and the nature of the frequency determines the form that the energy will take, whether that be a stone, a man, a planet, a universe; so, in this total complex of energies and from the Laws governing these energies, we get a notion of what is God, and it becomes possible to be invoked by humanity.

The thought forms created by that Master, Mary, mother of Jesus, are of two kinds. If they are seen by one person only and that person is giving reports of destruction and catastrophe and so on, then they’re not authentic creations from that Master but are, what one might say, the emotional or astral creations out of the emotional body of that individual or person, perhaps a highly hysterical young person, out of religious fervour.

The real ones, the ones seen by many people authenticated by several people, like in Medjugorje and so on, are creations of that Master. They are created to show humanity that there is always a continuing connection between the Divine and humanity; that God never loses sight of his creation, and seeks to bring his creation to a direct and pure reflection of himself. So this gives hope. It isn’t really to turn people to Catholicism or even to Christianity. It is meant to give a kind of symbol of hope and, for those who know about it, one of the signs of the Christ being back in the world now.

I believe that very strongly. I think that if I did not know that the Christ was in the world, I would have as much pessimism as most people. But knowing what I know from my own direct experience, and from that of a great number of people in London and around the world who know him, or to whom he has appeared, then that gives a hope for the future which is total.

He has requested me not to reveal it for the present. I know of two reasons, the major of which is this: if I were to reveal his name generally I would have to reveal it to the group or groups with which I work. They would focus their attention on him continuously in such a way as — by telepathy — to distract his attention. Whether he ‘blocked’ this or responded to it would involve a waste of his energy and time — and the Masters guard both with care.

Mere desire to contact a Master is not sufficient to bring about that contact. The aspirant or disciple must show by his capacity, objectivity and desire to serve that he can be useful to the Master’s work. There is an ancient adage: “When the pupil is ready, the Master comes.” Contact with ‘guides’ or ‘teachers’ on the astral planes, of course, needs no special capacity except a certain mediumistic faculty which I personally believe should be avoided.

There are certainly a great many discarnate entities functioning on the various levels of the seven astral or on the lower mental planes who give ‘guidance’ through mediums and sensitives on the physical plane. This guidance varies from the most banal trivia to teachings of a highly aspirational and uplifting kind. They are not our souls, which exist on the causal plane, the highest of the four mental planes. It is on this level that the Masters communicate with Their disciples.

I think that’s a misunderstanding. I didn’t say that Maitreya only appears when he’s asked. He appears to people whether he’s asked or not. He appears to people in their dreams. He appears to people as visions. He appears to people in solid, physical form. I don’t know anybody yet who actually asked for his presence. I know of people to whom he has appeared in all of three of these ways and none of them specifically asked, “Maitreya, please appear to me”. But maybe inwardly they were open, ready, and in their heart asked for a sight of Him. That could well be.

To my mind, that is glamour, I have to say. Forgive me, but that is glamour. The most important thing you can do if you believe that this is true at any level, if you have any beginning of conviction, if it has for you the ring of truth, then make it known at whatever level that truth is speaking to you. What is important is to create the climate of hope, of expectancy of his coming, so that he can, indeed, come into our lives without infringing our free will. And all those who can believe, at any level, contribute to that awareness. That not only creates the climate of expectancy. It lifts the spirit of humanity. It creates conditions in which people have hope — hope for the future. They see that war is finished. They know that just around the corner, if they take part, there is the beginning of a transformation in this unequal, unhappy world. So it is a glamour to think that anything else you might be doing with your energy is of equal importance to that. The time must come to set aside your own little personal lives and dedicate them to the benefit of all humanity.

Detachment has a number of connotations. Many people see detachment as indifference, being so detached from events that you’re indifferent to them, with a cold, loveless kind of dismissiveness — a ‘separating’ when you think of the world.

Detachment, as meant and understood by Maitreya, is the very opposite of that. It is the opposite of indifference. It is a total involvement in life and all that means, but at the same time, detaching oneself from the vehicles of the Self by relating correctly to the Self. He says, “The Self alone matters”, and our suffering is caused by identifying with everything that is not the Self. We tend to identify with the physical body, our emotional structures, the energy systems, our minds, the constructions of our minds, our belief structures, our conditioning, [our] inner world. We identify with these, and we think that’s us. It’s not us. We’re not the body; we’re not the emotions; we’re not the mind. What we are is an immortal being — the Self reflecting as the soul in incarnation.

The soul is the midway stage, the divine intermediary, between the Self and the man or woman in incarnation, and correct identification with oneself as the Self allows us to live correctly in joy, in love, totally involved in life and everything it means, with detachment. And the process of detachment is becoming detached from the involvement with the body, the mind, the senses, the astral apparatus, and so on. It’s a process of detaching oneself from the wrong process of alignment, of identification. It can be seen in terms of love. You can love somebody possessively or with detachment. It’s a very different kind of love. We call it love. “I love you if you love me, OK? It’s a deal?” That is possessive love, and if you turn that love away from me and onto somebody else, boy, does that make me angry, you know? That’s not love. That’s possessiveness. It’s the very opposite of detached love.

But detached love is a love that goes on and on, unconditionally, because it is its own nature. It’s not reactive. It doesn’t depend on being loved back. That is unconditional, detached love. That is the kind of love Maitreya means. But the process of detachment is the freeing oneself, and therefore, freeing the Self, from being caught in the trap of its vehicles. If we see ourselves as the vehicles — what Maitreya calls mind, spirit and body — then we trap the Self in those vehicles. Then we are conditioned; then we know nothing about detachment.

Everything that we do is reactive. Everything we do is predestined. But when we become detached, we take control of our own evolution, and every movement, every action we make is not predestined. It is an original, spontaneous, creative act, moment to moment, coming out of our awareness of ourselves as the creative Self behind all manifestation. That is the new Teaching of Maitreya, and this is the Teaching which, for instance, Jesus began, in talking about the nature of the human soul.

Maitreya comes to teach us how to become that soul right now. What is going to happen in the next phase of our lives, for this next 2,000-year period, is that which, until now, has been the prerogative, in terms of experience, of the great Teachers — the Jesuses, the Christs, the Buddhas, the gurus, the yogis, the great rishis who knew the Self, who became the Self, who realized the Self, moment to moment. That is going to become the common property of all people. The vast majority of people in this coming age are going to experience themselves directly, spontaneously, creatively, correctly, as the divine Self, and that is the extraordinary promise of this coming age of Aquarius that is just beginning. The process, Maitreya says, is honesty of mind, sincerity of spirit, and the detaching of yourself from wrong identification with the vehicles of the Self, rather than the Self itself.

Baha’u’llah was a teacher who started what is called the Baha’i faith, a major faith that has helped millions around the world. Baha’u’llah thought he was the Christ. The teaching of Baha‘u’llah was the teaching of Maitreya. He was overshadowed by Maitreya. Baha‘u’llah was a 3rd degree initiate, but he didn’t realize that there was a greater being than himself. He thought there was only God, and felt that his teaching came directly from God. And therefore, he had to be the Christ. He went around to the popes and the heads of governments, kings, and so on, saying that he was the Christ. He genuinely thought he was the Christ and that his teaching came directly from God. It wasn’t the case. God doesn’t talk directly to anybody. When the Bible says, “God spoke”, it’s only a symbolic way of saying that that person received some kind of communication, not from God, but from some divine source. It might have been Maitreya, Jesus, some of the Masters, whatever. In this case, Baha‘u’llah’s teaching, the Baha’i faith, embodied the teaching that came from Lord Maitreya. That’s why it is so good.

The relationship of the Buddha to Maitreya is like that of a brother. They are brothers. They were among the very first of early, emerging humanity way back in Atlantean days to take what was then the highest initiation, which today is only the third initiation. They they have been at the forefront of our planetary evolution ever since. They have worked together ceaselessly, and today they work together.

There are three major centres on the planet. Humanity itself is a centre. It is the centre where the intelligence of God manifests. The Hierarchy of Masters and initiates is a centre. It is the centre where the love of God manifests. And there is another higher centre called Shamballa, which is in etheric matter. It is not solid physically, but in etheric matter in the Gobi desert. In it dwells Sanat Kumara, the Lord of the World, and a whole host of Beings, one of whom is the Buddha.

The Buddha has taken a great cosmic initiation. He showed through his disciple, Prince Gautama, the embodiment of the Wisdom aspect of God. Perfect wisdom in a man was exemplified by the Buddha through Gautama. Perfect love in a man was exemplified by Maitreya through Jesus. And this time, Maitreya Himself has come, exemplifying not just Wisdom, not just Love, but, even higher, the Will, which includes the Love and Wisdom. He is a tremendous Avatar, such as this world has never seen. Mind you, He has a bigger job than any Avatar has had before.

They are brothers. What is his role? He is the divine intermediary between the centre we call Shamballa, where the Will of God is known, and the centre, Hierarchy, where the love of God is expressed. That divine intermediary brings the Plan, the Plan of Sanat Kumara (the expression of the Logos), to the Hierarchy. He reveals the Plan to the Christ, and then the Hierarchy of Masters sets about approximating that Plan to what is possible through humanity — first, through Their initiates, the disciples of the world, until they [the disciples] advance in the world. In this way, the Plan works out. It’s all very well-regulated. They have enormous patience. They would have to have, but gradually the world changes. The Buddha is very much involved in the appearance of his brother, the Christ.

He was hardly known. People often tell me about Jesus being so widely known among thousands, but he wasn’t. After his three-year mission, he had three close disciples and 12 other disciples. There were 72 of an inner group and 500 interested people. That was the sum total of the followers of Jesus 2,000 years ago. The general public didn’t know him. In fact, one of the disciples, Judas, had to be bribed to point him out to the soldiers so that they could arrest him.

He didn’t impose on our free will. He just got up and talked and preached and went around the country, usually hidden, going from place to place. It was a very difficult situation. There were those who thought he was seditious.

He was expected by many Jews as a warrior-king, and they really expected him to raise an army and attack the Roman garrison. When they put flowers on his path when he entered Jerusalem on an ass, according to the Gospel story, and they said, “Hosanna! Hosanna!” they thought he was coming to raise the army. That’s why they clapped and cried, “Hosanna!” That’s why they put down the flowers. But he didn’t do that. It’s as simple as that. They saw it as treachery because they felt he had let them down.

Group mind is the result of group consciousness. Gradually, in this coming time, humanity will develop group consciousness, and the subtlety of telepathy will flower everywhere. There will be no possibility of lying because everybody will be telepathic and will know exactly what you mean, so honesty of mind becomes a must.

Telepathy will be the normal mode of speech, as it is now with the Masters and Their disciples. The Masters don’t talk. They don’t waste breath. They use telepathy moment to moment. They’re in contact with each other and with some of Their disciples. And the beginnings of this are latent in everyone, even in the animal kingdom. Everybody is potentially telepathic. As soon as one becomes magnetic, telepathy develops naturally of itself. You can train yourself to become more telepathic and gradually let this innate faculty in all people become a conscious thing. It’s unconscious in people. Mothers and children are often in close, telepathic contact. Mothers know instinctively when something’s wrong with a child. They think something is happening, and they know it. They feel it through the solar plexus, and when it’s clear, in the head, then it becomes a conscious, manageable, constructive means of communicating mind to mind.

He has a Pakistani passport. He wears Pakistani clothes all the time in the Asian community, but he essentially has no nationality. He comes from the Himalayas. Who owns the Himalayas, you know, especially 17,500 feet up? You get a few climbers up there. He actually, I understand, was hassled at customs. He came as an ordinary man. He could have come as an immigrant, but then He would have been an illegal in Britain. He’s perfectly legal, and he never breaks the law. At customs, he handed over his passport with his profession, Teacher (because he is the World Teacher).

It is a Hierarchy of Masters. It is a Hierarchy. That’s the whole point. They themselves acknowledge that one is at a different level than another. If you’ve taken the fifth initiation, you’re a Master. If you’ve taken the sixth initiation, you’re a higher Master, you’re a Chohan. And if you’ve taken the seventh initiation, as Maitreya has done, you’re a Planetary life.

They look up to Maitreya as we would look up to the Masters. It is a Hierarchy. It has nothing to do with authority, except a spiritual authority, the greater experience, and the greater awareness that is conferred on any individual. That’s why Maitreya will never, on any pretext, infringe human free will. That would be misuse of authority. He would never do that. He doesn’t want to be worshipped. Most gurus want to be worshipped. They want devotees. He doesn’t. He says, “Do not worship me. Don’t follow me. Don’t run after me or you’ll lose me. If you worship me, you put yourself below me. But you’re not below me. You’re at the same level as me. We are both God.” In that way, there is never an infringement of free will.

I know people in the community as close to him as you can get, who do all sorts of silly things. He never complains. He lets them do it because it would be ‘authority’ if he imposed his will on them. He never does that. You’d be surprised how difficult it is to be an Avatar like Maitreya.

The answer is that there are no people who have never been in incarnation before. The door to incarnation was closed long, long ago from the animal kingdom to the human kingdom. Everybody in this room, and everybody that you’re likely to meet in your normal life, has been in incarnation thousands and thousands and thousands of times. People who tell you, “I am at the end of my eighth and final incarnation” are living under a huge glamour and are going to get a terrible surprise next time they come back.

The Law of Karma is the Law of Cause and Effect. Every thought, every action we make sets into motion a cause. Stemming from these causes are effects. These effects make our lives for good or ill, so all the time we are making the conditions of our own lives, and we have done this for thousands and thousands of incarnations.

We have created great knots of karma, which magnetically draw us back into incarnation again and again and again. And we continue to do so until we resolve these great karmic knots. That’s what it’s all about. The way to resolve the karmic knots is to serve the world. Your service has been put on a scale, as it were, with the karma, until the service activity, the conscious action of serving the world, outweighs the karma.

When people talk about karma they usually mean ‘bad karma’. But there is actually more good karma than bad karma. Despite all appearances, people are more good than bad. (I’m using ‘good’ and ‘bad’ in a purely relative, unreal sense.) Good actions create positive karma, and bad actions create negative karma. There is really only convenient karma and inconvenient karma.

Israel’s role in the new world order is to kneel down and pray for forgiveness for what it is doing to the Palestinians. Then get on with the reality of dividing the land of Palestine to make two solid and viable nations — Israel and Palestine. The future for Israel is penitence and the resurgence of the natural goodwill of its people and the overcoming of the evil that the government is creating in Palestinian lands. It means not waging war even if you want to. It means not toppling governmental heads, especially if they are democratically chosen by the people, as Allende was in Chile but was toppled by the CIA. You should not do that. That is harmful. It is done by governments who overreach themselves, overestimate their power and, therefore, the right to do whatever they want. They want to keep spheres of influence free from communism or any other nasty thing that they imagine, and so control the ground all around them. All these big dominating powers do the same thing. They want an area around them that makes them feel safe. They control the economies of the nations around them. The US sees Canada, Mexico, Brazil and all other South American nations in that light. If a leader comes to the fore who has socialistic tendencies, the US government quickly gets the CIA to do the dirty job which it is not prepared to do in public. That is what happens at governmental levels throughout the world. They are fascist, more or less.
The best use of harmlessness is to do the opposite of that, to build ties, share resources, and work co-operatively with other nations. (Share International March 2006)

Yes, very much so. The more the people of the world show their governments that they cannot make illegal wars in the name of their reluctant people, the sooner we will come to an end of this inglorious phase. Governments have to understand that their function is to serve the needs of their people, not to make war against other governments.

There are already over 60 UN resolutions against Israeli contraventions which are simply ignored by Israel protected by the US veto in the Security Council. It is necessary that the Security Council be abolished. It has long past its usefulness. The International Community must also stand up to the US abuse of power. Historically, apart from great revolutionary movements like the French, Russian and Chinese revolutions, the ‘voice of the people’, as presented by Share International today, has been very muted indeed. Throughout history, ‘the people’ have watched, and often suffered, the succession of invasions, pillages and cruelties meted out by conquering individuals with their armies of conquest. Today, a new phenomenon has appeared. The people everywhere have sensed their collective power and are demanding a free and just world as theirs by right of being members of the one humanity. This, I submit, is altogether new, and will manifest as a world public opinion with a voice so powerful and united that no government can stand against it. As one of the Masters has put it: “The voice of the people is the voice of wisdom.” (Share International March 2005)

Humanity needs to demand peace. There is only one way to get peace, according to Maitreya: accept the principle that humanity is one, and that therefore the food, the scientific know-how, the education and the healthcare belong to everybody and must be redistributed more equitably. We need to create one world: the one humanity needs to live in the one world. At present we have two worlds: one for the rich and the super-rich, and one for the rest — the poor, the miserable and the literally starving to death.

Maitreya needs you to march, to demonstrate, continuously. On the 15 February 2003 nearly 2 million people marched in London, out of the 12.5 million protesting across the world. Maitreya took part in the march and sees this as a token of our readiness to do something for ourselves. He is determined to begin His outer work, but humanity must demonstrate, call for sharing, which is the only way we will create justice and peace.

The governments will not respond until humanity forces them to. And when that happens it will be because of the inspiration of Maitreya which will educate, focus and enlighten humanity as a whole. No nation on earth can avoid or withstand that massed world public opinion. It is that which will bring about the transformation of the world. We have to do it. What’s the best thing we can do? Certainly march at every opportunity: you have to repeat it and repeat it, endlessly on and on, and on. Not just for an end to the war in Iraq, but for peace, for justice, for sharing the world’s resources. You have to shift the focus of the demand. The demand has to come from humanity: for justice, through sharing. When the governments of the world see that, they will quaver because they see now a mounting power of the people in every country. It terrifies them.

They mount all sorts of restrictions, but the people have found a way of organizing themselves. But it must continue consciously, from ‘Iraq’ to ‘sharing’, to create justice as the only way to peace — it has to become bigger, broader, based on that reality. (Share International May 2003)

Yes, but the politicians aren’t such nice people! Politicians are interested in power; they all want to handle power. Power is an energy and like all energies can be used wisely or unwisely. Some politicians use power unwisely and cause various crises. Their time is coming to an end.

The most important and powerful structure in future will be a truly educated, spiritually oriented and aware world public opinion. The people will truly inherit the Earth.

Maitreya also comes for the politicians, but He comes especially for the people. The politicians are so selfish, powerful and greedy that they can look after themselves. And they usually do! (Share International December 2005)

It depends on the country. Boycotting is a way for the international community to demonstrate its disapproval of unlawful practices. It is rather a blunt instrument and, depending on the kind of boycott, can affect rich or poor or all citizens of the boycotted countries. (Share International October 2011)

You could make isotopes, but you have to know what to use them for. For example, you can make a very simple isotope from water, which would provide the use of nuclear energy in a safe and clean state called, not nuclear fission as is used in the atomic bomb and in the power stations, but nuclear fusion.

The fusion process is clean and cold and can be realized by a simple isotope from water which is everywhere in the world. So this means that no one could corner nuclear fusion. Every nation in the world could make its own nuclear fusion plants. And it would give the required safe, clean power to fill the gap between our present varied systems and the new Technology of Light, when it is given to the world.

There is no date set for the Technology of Light. It depends on humanity’s abandonment for ever of war. If humanity continues holding onto the right to make war, then it will not be released. But as soon as humanity has shown absolutely, totally, its complete rejection of war for ever, then the Technology of Light can be given to the world. It is safe and clean and uses energy directly from the sun.

The Space Brothers are creating a grid on the physical plane of magnetic energy, which in combination with the solar currents will provide that energy of light, the new Science of Light. But the timing depends on humanity.

In the meantime we could have nuclear fusion tomorrow, which would answer every need both in laboratories and elsewhere, safe, clean and non-destructive, and would help enormously in the science of today. But again the formulas for it are lying on the desks of car manufacturers and others who see it as the end of the dependency on oil, on petrol. And they are making oil and petrol-driven engines so that the last thing they want to see is nuclear fusion. It is all to do with commercialization — one gets tired of saying the word, but it is the heart of the problems of humanity. (Share International January/February 2009)

The Masters have for long known that They would return to the world, demonstrating Their ability to function outwardly in the world as a group. The only question was when. The world has nuclear weapons; there are 28 countries which have atomic weapons of which only a fraction would be needed to destroy all life on Earth. So the Masters are coming forward with Maitreya (He announced His intention to return in 1945, at the end of the World War) to prevent destruction of all life on our planet. If allowed to go on as we are now we could destroy all life. The tensions inherent in the divisions between developed and developing countries have within them the seeds of war — and that would be nuclear. (Share International November 2002)

I do not think they can afford to; Iran is huge. If they cannot deal with Iraq, how could they manage Iran? They will do all they can to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons. As soon as we accept that war is finished for ever, and as soon as we accept the principle of sharing, and make war a thing of the past we will have the energy from the sun. At the moment, no nation can be trusted to use this energy for other than its own purposes. The new energy could provide weapons more powerful even than the atomic bomb. Only when all of us renounce war for ever will we be trusted with that energy. (Share International September 2010)

I believe that Hierarchy or rather Sanat Kumara behind Hierarchy would not allow the planet to be destroyed and probably would not allow humanity itself to be annihilated. I also believe that the Christ’s presence is the guarantee that the inner decision necessary for peace — that is, sharing — has already been taken by humanity, whether it knows it or not. The Christ has said this so many times that we simply have to believe it. (Share International November 1982)

Yes, since the secret for the creation of the atomic bomb was released by Hierarchy to the allied scientists during the war, from 1939 to 1945, Sanat Kumara is now directly involved in any use of nuclear weapons and, I believe, would not allow such a catastrophe.

War by accident is another possibility and, of course, on the surface it would appear that this could take place any time. The safeguards for the control of such an eventuality are still in the hands of fallible human beings. If there were such an accidental release of nuclear weapons they, too, can be neutralised, even in flight, by Hierarchy. We would not be allowed to devastate the planet. Well, first of all: where is God? And then: what is God? You cannot really define God but, at least to my mind, God is the sum total of all the Laws and all the energies manipulated through these Laws that make the universe. In the Bible it is put like this: “God is a consuming fire.” God is energy vibrating at different frequencies, different relationships. These frequencies, these relationships make the manifested universe. I am God, you are God, this is God. There is nowhere God is not. God is everyone and everything and all the space between.

In relation to the Christ, he himself is God in the sense that he embodies an aspect of God, the Love aspect. He embodies the Christ principle, the energy of evolution, and now he embodies the Will aspect of God here, too. He is a tremendous, mighty Avatar, far greater than any other Avatar that has ever come to the world and has greater work, harder tasks to do.

For some people, God may be an old man with a beard who is sitting up in heaven, and who you can turn to and say, “Please, God, protect me” or “Save my friend from illness and dying.” But to me, that is not God.

God, to me, is a divine principle and the difference between the Christ and That One — God — is that he [Maitreya, the Christ] is totally imbued by that principle. We don’t really know its nature. It is not a moment-to-moment reality for most of us. Maybe in the profoundest meditation, we come into an awareness of some aspect of what that divinity is like, but for the most part of our lives, we’re too busy making a living and so on, being with our family and friends to even begin to sense what God is. But we can believe that God is a very strong, ever-present reality for a Being of the stature of the Christ, and that being so, he can interpret that reality for us.

That’s the function of the Teachers — to interpret the nature of that reality which we call God, which is ourselves. There is no separation, but we don’t realize that because we are living in this ‘sin’ — this heresy of separateness. There’s only one sin — the sin of separation. There is nothing separate in the world. We are all parts of one whole and the Christ will show that what we call humanity, what we call nature, what we call God are all part of the same. They’re all part of the totality of being and that is our nature. (Share International, June 2021)

Benjamin Creme’s Master: “The major task for the United States at the present time is to discover its soul, and with it its need to serve, rather than dominate, the world. So focused today is the United States in its personality expression that little of true service is demonstrated in its decisions. Separatism, selfishness and greed still condition much of the action of that great country. The demise of the Soviet Union as a rival in world affairs has only contributed to these glamours (illusions). The way forward for the United States is to put its manifold resources, talents and energies at the disposal of the world community and so lead the nations into the creation of a new and more viable world. The world waits for such a consummation of purpose. However, it is not unlikely that this much-to-be-desired action will have to await the appearance and the acceptance of the Christ.” (Share International, September 1993)

My Master wrote an article (Share International, June 1993) which we sent as a Press Release to media around the world. He called for the creation of a United Nations which had ‘teeth’, a military potential which could cope with situations like Bosnia, Rwanda, and those arising in the Soviet Union. Without a strong United Nations we will have a series of such wars.

Men like Milosevic in Yugoslavia and Karajdic in Serbia are adventurers who see opportunities in the weakness of the United Nations and the various imbalances in the world to create situations in which they can gain territory and power – power-hungry men. They have taken advantage of the breakup of the Soviet Union, which has released a tide of nationalism and an aspiration towards self-expression
in the various peoples, to gain that power. They are authoritarian, fascist-type dictators, not really concerned with the national aspirations of the people.

The only way to counter that is to have a United Nations with an army powerful enough, supported by all the nations, who must give enough men and arms. They would not have to fight a war, they would simply have to be there, and be ready to act and so prevent these particular situations, which otherwise will continue to arise around the world.

It is not without importance that when the United Nations threatened to bomb the Serbian forces on the slopes around Sarajevo, the Serbians withdrew, and Sarajevo suddenly became a ‘safe’ area. That could have happened all over Bosnia, but the powers – the British, French and the Germans in particular – are too concerned with their own petty, political problems, their own economies. The last thing they are prepared to do is put in the money and the forces which would allow a correct reaction to the adventure of the Serbians in Bosnia.

The United Nations has to be powerful enough to act in the name of humanity. The dangers are too great today – only one of these adventurers needs a nuclear bomb, which can be bought cheaply in the Soviet Union, for the situation to become very dangerous indeed. (Share International, April 1995)

Yes indeed, we do this all the time. Governments do it all the time. People like Hitler, for example, set in motion wars which devastate life on the planet for years on end. The events in Bosnia today are set in motion by the head of the rebel Serbian groups and the President of Serbia. These two men have an enormous karmic debt to repay to hundreds of thousands of Bosnians and Croatians who have suffered at their hands. Millions starve in the Third World through the actions of the developed nations. Some 40 wars are going on in the world as we speak. These can only continue while the rich nations sell the arms to fight them. (Share International, July/August 1995)

Indeed, yes. We affect the weather very considerably. Our destructive thoughts affect the elemental forces which govern the climate and weather patterns in the world. If our thoughts are in disequilibrium, as they very much are today, these elemental forces go out of equilibrium. The result is earthquakes, storms, tornadoes, tremendous floods, and so on, which devastate large areas of the world
continuously. This is our own doing. We call them acts of God, but they are not acts of God, they are acts of humanity, through its wrong thought and action, setting out of trim the elemental forces. When we eventually come into equilibrium, these forces too will come back into equilibrium, and the climates will return to their normal patterns. (Share International, July/August 1995)

Goodwill ‘pays off’. Of course, very much so. It is the essential nature of our being to express goodwill. If we express bad will, we reap the karma of that bad will. Goodwill is the lowest aspect of the energy of love that humanity as a whole can demonstrate. It is essential that we grasp this and spread it and manifest it as much as we possibly can. Not only that, as I say, to the individual it ‘pays off’ handsomely. Goodwill generates goodwill; and gradually goodwill can become love. Goodwill is the first step towards manifesting love. In the short term, it certainly entails contact (which it already has) with the other planets of our own solar system, and with our nearest solar system, Sirius. Many of the Masters, when they become Masters, go directly from Earth to Sirius. People like Gautama, who ‘stood in’ for the Buddha, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, or John the Baptist are all on Sirius. Jesus is here, but John the Baptist, who prepared the way for him, is actually on Sirius. If he were here, he would be more evolved than Jesus because the evolution on Sirius is fantastically fast.

The Hierarchies of all the planets are in communication all the time. This solar system evolves as a system, not just as separate planets going their own way. The Logoi of the various planets know the Plan, to a greater or lesser extent, of the Solar Logos, who is ‘God’ for this solar system. Their work is the fulfilling of the plan of the Solar Logos for their particular planet. Eventually this contact and communication will become the common heritage of all of us. At the moment it is
restricted to the Masters and senior initiates, but eventually, through what we call the UFO phenomenon (coming mainly from Mars and Venus), the reality of this interrelation between the planets will become known to everyone. (Share International, October 1996)

For the Masters, human free will is sacrosanct: They never infringe our free will. Maitreya makes a plan and there may be thousands of different aspects to take into account in deciding what and when to do a certain thing. That plan is not set in stone, it is pliable, flexible — but human free will would never be infringed.

To initiate a war on Iraq is a decision which seems to have been taken by the US Government (no-one else wants such a war) and for Maitreya to appear openly ‘to prevent it’ would be an infringement of our free will, however misguided or destructive such aggression might be. It is not up to Maitreya to make or unmake our decisions. Besides, when he does come forward, he will not immediately have the influence the questioner seems to ascribe to him.

The Law has to be obeyed. The Masters are Masters because they live by the Law — the Law of Life, of evolution. There are things which you can do, must do, and things you must not do. We do anything. We infringe each other’s free will — we murder, injure, maim — we do it with words and deeds. That is why we have problems, why we have illness, why we suffer. (Share International, November 2002)

One cannot place service too high as a path to gain spiritual enlightenment, because enlightenment itself is awakening to the role of service. The Masters call Their work the Great Service, and as we evolve to eventual Masterhood we come to realize that throughout cosmos there is really only one great law governing the whole activity of what we call divinity — and that is service. God comes into incarnation, creates the manifested universe, and the units of God, of which we are the reflection, come into incarnation, specifically, to serve. There is no other motive. It is to serve the Plan, which itself is service.

In serving, one becomes more and more impersonal, more and more decentralized. Our problem is that we are usually centralized. We are the centre of the universe for ourselves. We are, all of us, almost exclusively, bound by our sense of our own independent reality — our separate self. This, actually, is a heresy. It is a myth. It only relates to the brain consciousness of ourselves, and the personality awareness of our lives. The whole role of meditation and service is to lead us away from that view, into the true reality, where there is no break or separation, because fundamentally there is no separation.

We are souls in incarnation. On the soul plane, there is no such thing as a separate soul. It does not exist. There is one great Oversoul, with individualized aspects. We are individualized parts of that Oversoul.

Our sense of being separate is quite erroneous and stems from our identifying with the lowest aspects of ourselves, the body. As soon we come into that realization, we make the first real step of progress toward reality. And we find the very nature of that reality is service.

The Logos of our planet is serving the Plan of the Solar Logos in creating for Himself a body of expression, which we call planet Earth. Everything you see on the planet — the people, the trees, etc. — comes into being as thought forms in the mind of the creating Logos. He does this in service to the greater Plan of the Solar Logos, who in His turn is doing the same thing on a bigger scale in service to the greater Logos at the centre of the galaxy. The Solar Logos will probably only know a part of that Plan, but does what He does in service to the part of the Plan that He knows.

So really there is only service. As souls we are here to serve. It is the self-sacrificial will of the soul that brings us into incarnation. The mechanism is the magnetic pull of karma through the law of cause and effect, but the motive for coming in is to serve the Plan. The all-important thing in service is the motive behind it. It is not what you do. It does not matter what service you do. Everything can be service. Every single action you do can be service.

The way you do it is also important. Service should be impersonal. Personally-motivated service is not service. That is service to the separate self. Impersonal service — it is only service if it is impersonal — altruistic service, should be the aim. This brings in the law of service, and has its result, whereas personal service only leads to the bolstering of the sense of separation. So the motive is absolutely crucial. It is impossible to talk about the Reappearance of the Christ and the Masters without tapping into that person’s soul, invoking the soul experience and intuition of the person you are speaking to. It is trial and error: you fail with some people and succeed with others. If you yourself try to work as a soul, if you try to see things from the point of view of the soul, it is not like seeing things in a mystical way. The soul is not mystical. There are mystical 6th-ray souls, but leaving them aside, the soul itself is not mystical. It is a great mystery for most people, but it is not a mystical idea.

When people think of approaching things as a soul, they are inclined to think that is a very high, mystical-sounding approach. It is not. You can be, and should be, as practical as I am in putting forward this message. Some people come to my lectures and say: “I thought it was going to be about the Reappearance of the Christ. It is all about politics and economics.” It is both. Politics and economics are spiritual ideas.

The current global crisis is a spiritual crisis. It is a crisis of Being. Humanity does not know who it is, what it is, where it comes from, where it is going. It is a spiritual crisis for the entire world. That spiritual crisis is focused today through the political and economic fields.

That is why we in the West have a total lack of concern. We know and yet put up with the fact that millions are dying in the East, in Africa, for lack of food which is rotting away in the storehouses of the Western world. That is a spiritual reality.

The fact that we can put up with that is a spiritual error. It is not just an error of common sense, an error of distribution or bookkeeping; as though we left them out of the equation and somehow the food did not get there. It is not that kind of error. It is the effect of a spiritual lack in us. We are not what we think we are. We think we are clever, intelligent, able to run our lives and the life of the country in ways that are beneficial for all. It is not true. You may be clever and intelligent. You may have good ideas. You may have the best of intentions. But unless you are spiritual in the real sense, in the practical sense, you will not handle those qualities, the cleverness, the intelligence, the thought for others. You will be complacent. You will think: “I am all right, we have done rather well here. What is wrong with our country? It is great. We have to make the odd war now and again just to teach a lesson to some upstart, but apart from that, we are fine” — forgetting that you are only one part of the world.

To be spiritual really means to take in the world as a whole, to think in global terms. This is needed above all at the present time. All governments should be under the pressure of the educated public to take the broader view, to see the necessity of having right human relationships in the political and economic sense, not just in a cosy, friendly, one-to-one human sense.

It is not either/or, of course. You need the cosy, friendly, one-to-one human sense as a matter of course. But also as a matter of course, Britain, France, America, Japan, all the developed nations, should have the same feelings towards the Africans and Indians, the people who are suffering, living on a dollar a day — one-fifth of the world’s population. It is unbelievable. There are 1.3 billion people in the world living on a dollar a day. Of these, millions die daily, hourly, moment-to-moment, from starvation.

The fact that we allow that to happen is the spiritual crisis. We tend to think of it only in economic and political terms. But the economic and political reality is the spiritual crisis. We have to see it from its core. The core is wrong human relationship. We tend not to know or put any emphasis on the fact that humanity is one.

There is only one humanity, one group called humanity, the human kingdom. It is not the only kingdom, not even the most important. We only think of one section of it, the developed world, as the important part of the important human kingdom. From the Masters’ point of view, the human kingdom is just one kingdom among others, highly important, but it is a part of the evolution of planet Earth. And planet Earth is a part of the evolution of the solar system, and so on, higher and higher. There is no break in it. There is no point where you could cut it down and say: “Let us stop there. This is America, let us just look after America.” It is what America tends to do, look after America. It is what Britain tends to do, look after British interests. Is it in the British, American, French, Italian, Japanese, or in the Russian interest to do this?

We always put it into these specified local, not global, interests. There is no such thing as specifically American, Russian, or British interests. There are world interests, human interests, and unless these are solved, there will be no humans in the world. That is what we have to grasp and that is what you can put forth.
That is the soul talking. That is how the soul sees the world. When people see this, they say: “You know, you are right,” because their soul is telling them it is right. They see it as a soul. But if you do not see it as a soul, you do not see it as a spiritual crisis, just an economic or political crisis. They are political and economic crises, but these are the fields in which the spiritual crisis is focused. (Share International, January/February 2005)

America and Europe, the developed countries in general, don’t ask the right questions. They don’t ask: ‘Why do we have terrorism?’ Terrorism is a symptom. It’s a symptom of the injustice in the world — where one-third of the world takes and has everything and the rest of the world has almost nothing. It’s as if you decide that all the food you eat will only go to feed the right side of your body while the other half starves. You would soon look like a monster, bloated on one side and dying on the other. That’s what we’re doing to the world. We are creating a monster and its effect is terrorism. There are more factors involved in terrorism than I’m mentioning here but the major cause is the injustice, the discrepancy in living standards, in our ways of thinking and living and seeing the world, between the developed and developing world.

Obviously I’m not supporting terrorism or in favour of it. I abhor it. But it is a symptom of disorder in the body politic of the world. We have a world to reconstruct. The most important thing we can learn to do is how to live in peace — and to do that we need to create justice in the world. Until there is justice for all there will be no peace. To get justice we need to share the world’s resources.

If you don’t like what I say then you won’t like what Maitreya has to say, but He will make you think. It’s not so important if I make you think but when Maitreya talks it is important that you think about what He says. Everyone will have an opportunity to “follow His thoughts” as Maitreya puts it.

I’ve spoken only about [Maitreya’s] political, economic and social concerns; those are His main and initial concerns. They are the most important because we are going through a spiritual crisis which is focused in the political and economic fields and our problems can only be solved in these fields. Why is it important? Because the crisis is that we do not know who we are. Humanity has no idea why we’re here, where we come from, whether we have lived before, where we are going when we die. We know nothing about ourselves. If you don’t know who you are, how can you know how to live together? How do you know how to make peace? Because we don’t know who we are, we make institutions that mean that some people live very well, others less well and others again hardly at all. And we take this to be normal. Our attitude is: “Well that’s how it is, that’s market forces.” “That’s life.” And that is the sickness into which we have fallen, the materialism into which we have fallen. Maitreya is here to lift us up into a more spiritual state so that we see the realities. And to do that we need to see that the path of materialism is a dead-end. It leads only to death. Market forces have so caught the organs of humanity — its heart and so on — that it is caught up in materialism and it can do almost nothing about it. Humanity is so hysterically bent on getting richer and richer, that almost nothing can stop it. The only thing that can stop it is a stock-market crash which will bring us face to face with the realities of life. Then we will listen to Maitreya. When you have nowhere left to go you will turn to the source [of wisdom], to the Masters Who have the answers to our problems. (Share International, June 2019)

Karma is the Law of Cause and Effect, the great Law that completely dominates our life on this planet. Every thought that we have, every action we take, sets in motion a cause. The effects stemming from these causes make our lives for good or ill. We are in charge of our own evolutionary process. Through the Law of Karma, the Law of Cause and Effect, we create all that happens to us. All that we say is good luck and all that we say is bad luck.

One of the things that seems to worry humanity is karma itself. They say, “Oh, what’s my karma? Is this illness karmic?” Everything is karmic. Everything is an effect of a cause. These causes are continually being in set in motion. When people say, “I’ve got this illness, but could you tell me if it’s karmic or can I do something about it?” By karmic they mean kind of predestined, something coming out of the long distant past, maybe previous lives or early in this life now. But it could be the result of karma from yesterday, 10 minutes ago. Karma is a continuous process because we’re all the time thinking. We’re all the time creating thought forms. We’re all the time setting in motion causes and therefore creating effects stemming from these causes for good or ill. If our thoughts, if our actions are harmless, then our karma is harmless. We say, “Oh, I have good karma. I’m very lucky.” It’s not luck. It’s simply the result of right action, right thought.

The trouble is that we cannot control our thoughts, nor can we create conditions in the world in which nobody suffers. We are all of us as humanity creating conditions for ourselves through karma by leaving countless millions to starve to death when we could solve the problem tomorrow. Nobody on this planet needs starve. Nobody needs go hungry. Nobody needs live and die in that impoverished way in which countless millions do today. That all the time is creating for all of us, because we share the responsibility, the karma of that non-action. There is the karma of action. There’s also the karma of non-action. In the Christian terminology, it’s the sins of commission and sins of omission.

The sins of omission are just as difficult. There is only one sin really, and that is the sense of separateness. We imagine we are separate, but we’re not. As souls, there is no such thing as separateness. There’s no separate soul. It doesn’t exist. Each soul is an individualized aspect of one great Oversoul that makes up humanity. In incarnation, that soul is embodied by a personality. We can see as we look at each other that we seem to be separate. But, in fact, the separation is simply an illusion. As souls, you know that there is no separation. The soul has no sense of being an individual separate thing. It is an individualized [soul] in consciousness, but with no sense of separation. It only has total group sense. It only sees all things as one, a totally unified experience.

On the physical plane, when we regain that soul consciousness, then we say, “We are ensouled.” We are beginning to build the type of personality that can truly reflect the soul. Now, that’s the first step we have to do to create the New Age. The first step that humanity must take if it is to survive is to begin to see itself as one, that we are literally one humanity, one group, one race. Different colors, different religions, different points of evolution perhaps and so on, but only one race. All of us are God’s children. We’re all brothers and sisters of that one humanity. That’s the first step into the consciousness of the soul. As soon as we do that, we will construct the political and economic structures which demonstrate it.

The principle of sharing will begin to be implemented. Without it, we cannot go forward into the New Age. We cannot create right human relationships. Right human relationships is the next step forward in our evolutionary journey to perfectionment. That means that on all levels — political, economic, religious, social — we have to see ourselves as one and implement it through creating sharing, and justice, and therefore peace in the world. When we create these conditions, then the obstacles to correct expression will begin to disappear.

We have violence and hatred and crime and drug abuse in the world, not because people are innately wicked and antisocial, but because they are suffering from spiritual starvation. When you suffer from spiritual starvation, you look around and you see the people in the next street living in luxury and you are living in poverty. You’ve got no job and you can hardly keep body and soul together. You don’t have enough food for your family. Automatically you must resort to crime. You can’t help it because you see your family starving to death. Your government doesn’t care a jot. The people around you don’t care a jot because they’re too rich. When you get rich, you get complacent. Complacency, Maitreya calls “the root of all evil.” It is the big sin. It is a sense of separation, a sense of separateness that makes one complacent. That has to go. If we are going to change the world, that’s the first thing we have to change, that complacency and sense of separation.

How can we change our karma?
We can change our karma by living correctly, by creating good karma. Luckily, there’s always more good karma than bad karma. Otherwise there would be no world. We would have destroyed the world long, long ago. The life for most people is bearable. Some live terrible lives, but the vast majority of humanity live bearable lives. It might be painful, and looked at from outside, it might be very truncated, very, very narrow, and really not adding up to very much. I’m thinking in terms of somebody very mutilated or in a body which is very handicapped and so on. But that consciousness, if it works, if it’s put into action, can create for itself an environment in which even these handicaps seem to not be handicaps. And marvels of creativity are demonstrated every day through people who are physically, and sometimes emotionally and mentally handicapped. The human spirit is really invincible. We can change our karma, and this frees us for greater service.

Can it be done through prayer?
No. It can be done through meditation and above all through service. Service is the most powerful mode of transformation of one’s karma. In service, one burns up bad karma. One creates a different balance. The scales of karma are wielded by the Lords of Karma. There are four great Lords who look after these. They have a huge book in which everything is written down — good, not very good, pretty bad, awful and so on. Every thought, every action, everything that anybody ever does is not lost. It is all energy. Everything in the world is energy. We live in an ocean of energies. We ourselves are part of that ocean — but coalesced, concretized into this seeming physical being. But as we know through Einstein’s theory of relativity, it’s only a relative solidity. It can be transformed at will if you’re a Master. When you get to be a Master, you can move around the world just by thought. You can appear and disappear at will. You have complete control of energy and therefore of the precipitation of that energy. That’s what we take to be the physical plane.

Meditation and above all service neutralize the karma, resolve the karma, and therefore are the most powerful adjuncts to the process of evolution. They are that which propels you forward in evolution. That is why as soon as a man or woman shows any kind of sign at all of responding to the soul, the impulse, the altruistic desire to serve as the soul, then they’re presented with a field of service. In the work of service, they come closer and closer to the soul and manifest more and more of the soul’s impulse to serve. As soon as, through any form of meditation, you contact your soul, which is what meditation is for, you desire to serve. You cannot do otherwise.

Who is Sanat Kumara?
Sanat Kumara is the Lord of the World. Since our planetary Logos cannot take dense physical appearance in the world, he reflects himself in etheric physical matter, the two highest of the four etheric planes, as Sanat Kumara, the Lord of the World. It’s a great being, a young man from the planet Venus, who has been on this planet for the last 18 and a half million years, for as long as humanity. and who brought the energy we call mind with a group of his disciples, Kumaras, like him, 18 and a half million years ago. They are known as the Lords of the Flame, the Flame of Mind. We are the Sons of Mind. And Venus, it came from Venus because Venus is the alter ego of the planet Earth. And our Logos, therefore, uses a Venusian being, Sanat Kumara, to reflect himself through on the etheric physical plane. Long far ahead, way, way in the far distant future, that manifestation will take place on the dense physical plane, but humanity is not ready for that, and will not be ready for that for a very, very long time.

So, in order to help the Earth, the Lord of the World, since he cannot take physical incarnation, brings in what are called avatars to stand in for him, spiritual Regents. One of them is Sai Baba.

Continuity of consciousness depends on the creation of the antahkarana to bring it into being. Without the antahkarana, there can be no continuity of consciousness. Continuity of consciousness exists when there is no gap in consciousness from the waking state to the sleep state and back into the waking state. If the person, a thinking, conscious entity, goes to sleep and continues that state of awareness, and brings its experiences in sleep back onto the physical plane, that is called continuity of consciousness.

There is a further, more developed aspect of this, which is continuity of consciousness between one life and the next; you die consciously. Out of the body you remain totally conscious of who and what you are, what you have done, and what your purpose is. You reincarnate with full consciousness of having lived before and what you did. Continuity of consciousness in this sense is much rarer than that between the waking and sleep states. Eventually, with the building of the antahkarana, that too is developed, and then no time is wasted.

Time is wasted through lack of knowledge which is the result of the non-continuity of consciousness. We are conscious for a bit, and then we forget. We go to sleep, or we die, and we waste time remembering what we were aware of before we went to sleep or in our previous life. Much time and energy is wasted without continuity of consciousness. But when there is such consciousness, it is obvious, the path can be faster, very speedy and direct. If the person is at all disciplined, enormous evolution can take place in a very short time. When you are in a Transmission Meditation group, work at fairs and give lectures, and so on, you are sending out the light of knowledge. You are taking in light and sending out light. Transmission Meditation, plus your activity in relation to this work, or any kind of spiritual work, has an immediate effect on the chakras. It intensifies soul activity and therefore the soul light. This intensifies the light flowing in and out of the etheric body, so that the chakras themselves are stimulated.

All of this together, especially in a group situation, creates a state of spiritual tension. Each individual has a greater or lesser degree of spiritual tension. Their worth in the world at any given time, their worth in this work, is measurable in relation to that state of tension. The greater the spiritual tension, the greater the creativity of the individual, the greater their spiritual worth to the world as a whole.

We have to create spiritual tension. Nothing happens without tension. It is as if you have inside yourself a spiritual spring, and everything you do of a spiritual nature (including, of course, Transmission Meditation) winds up the spring, like a clock. It winds to a point where it cannot any longer be wound without snapping. Then it unwinds, and you have a change, a shift in consciousness. Every human being undergoes this same process. Before every expansion of consciousness there has been a period of spiritual tension. The spiritual activity — the overshadowings, the blessings, the Transmission Meditations, the work in the world of a spiritual nature — is enhancing the spiritual endeavour, winding up the spring. Then comes a time when it cannot be wound any more, it lets go, and your consciousness expands. That is how you advance. That is the key to the whole process of expansion of consciousness, and therefore of evolution.

The more you transmit (if aligned) the more you act in a spiritual sense, the more you are an educator, the more you are spreading the light of knowledge, of the soul, of wisdom, of the intuition — these lights are all part of Light, and pertain to different aspects of your Being — all of that winds up the clock, increases the spiritual tension.

It is the same for every group. Every group is using a certain proportion of soul energy in its activity and a certain proportion of personality energy. These vary in different parts of the world. Most of the groups that I know and work with use a large proportion of soul energy and a small proportion of personality. This group (I mean the groups around the world, except for one or two) are functioning at a very high level of soul energy because they are inspired by the idea of the Christ being in the world. Their soul has responded to that great, magnetic idea, the return of the Christ and the Hierarchy of Masters. That has kindled the fire in them which we call the soul. It has brought about, throughout the world, this growing number of groups who are reaching, stage by stage, a point where the light gets so intense, the energy and tension build-up so intense, that it unleashes itself, it unwinds. This unwinding is not a loss of energy but actually a shift in awareness. That happens before every initiation. Each initiation is the result of that manifested spiritual tension. It is only that which makes it possible to stand the light from the Rod of Initiation. (Share International, January/February 1999)

This is awakened when the love petals in the crown chakra are opened. The soul is then strongly influential and it changes the nature of consciousness. By this time, a person has lost his sense of being a separate self.

Most people have the sense that they are separate, the personality, Mr or Mrs whoever. They recognize themselves by what they see in the mirror and take that to be the Self, which is not the case. They take this image to be a separate person, and they are very aware of themselves.

Everyone is very self-conscious. You only have to look around to see that this is the case. Everyone is at the centre of the universe. The universe is revolving around us, and we are in the centre, the important point in life.

Essentially, we feel, what matters is ourselves: are we getting enough to eat, enough sex, enough adulation, kindness, respect? Everyone wants respect. Everyone has to treat us with respect, love, affection, kindness. They have to show they love us, to recognize that we are at the centre of the universe, and as such are due all of this respect, kindness, and love.

Other people are here to satisfy our needs, as we see them. For the most part, they are not our needs but our wants. They are certainly our wants, and that is the trouble. This gives us the sense of being alone and separate and, as it were, in competition, at war with the world to get what we want out of it: what is wrong with other people is that they do not automatically see this, do not see that they are agents for our desires. We all know this; this is everyone’s experience.

As we evolve, as the soul knocks on the door for the millionth time, it says: it is not like that. You are not at the centre of the universe. You do not exist as a separate being. Only I, the soul, exist. I know that I am not separate. One day the message from the soul gets through, that this is not real. The sense of being at the centre of the universe gradually erodes, it fades. The underlying truth is that the soul exists, and the man or woman is simply a reflection, an agency. This personality with all its hopes, dreams, desires and needs is simply a dream, a fiction, a creation on the physical plane for a certain time. From one moment to the other it is never the same, is changing all the time. It is even getting old, which is seen as tragic, especially when it is actually happening. The thought about it is crippling enough for most people.

The reality is that as the soul informs its vehicle and the person loses something of this sense of separateness, the important things in life change. What was important becomes unimportant, ceases to have that intensity of need and begins to fade. Other things rise in importance, like service. Service is impersonal and rises up when the personal goes.

When the individual becomes so attuned to the soul, and the soul is beginning to manifest through the individual, the shift takes place from the personal to the impersonal, from the astral/emotional to the heart. The heart is always impersonal. It feels as if it is personal, and it is moved by personal experiences, but it is essentially impersonal. The emotions, on the other hand, are always totally personal, to do with desire. These desires might be high-minded, but they are still desires.

The change takes place through a growing awareness of the nature of the soul and therefore the nature of life. The soul is the means by which life demonstrates itself in the world. It is an agency, just as the physical body with its astral and mental makeup is an agency. The reality is the life. This life pours through all the different forms. One of these forms is the soul. Another of the forms, the reflection of the soul, is the man or woman in incarnation.

As Maitreya says: “The Self alone matters”. The Self is the life. The Self alone matters, you are that Self, an immortal being. Our problem is that we do not know it. We identify with that which is not the immortal being and so we suffer. All the suffering, all the pain, all the tyranny of the present is the result of this wrong identification. The path backwards is the creation of the linking bridge, the antahkarana. Maitreya would say, very simply: Practise three things: honesty of mind, sincerity of spirit, and detachment. As you create the antahkarana, these three are automatically being expressed. As you practise them you are automatically creating the antahkarana. The building of the racial antahkarana is the result of the gradual realization by humanity that it is the soul, that it is the Self, and that that is informing this experience we call life. But it is life itself playing through all the forms that gives it reality, dynamism, the need to express. (Share International, January/February 1994)

No. Consciousness is an aspect of energy. All is energy, and what we call consciousness is a particular quality of energy, that which is embodied by the soul. Everything you can see, or might see or imagine as being seen, is energy. The whole of creation is really energy vibrating at different rates. The rates determine the form which it takes.

Consciousness you cannot see, but you can see the results of its presence.

Consciousness comes to us from our soul, and the more we are ensouled, the more we are conscious. A Master has a tremendous level of consciousness compared to us because He is totally soul-infused. (Share International, May 1996)

We do not have continuity of consciousness. When we have continuity of consciousness we do remember, but we do not have continuity of consciousness even from the sleeping to the waking state. We might remember a few dreams, but that is really the activity of the astral-emotional body in shallow sleep. In deep sleep we do not dream at all; it is only as our sleep gets more shallow, as we are emerging out of deep sleep, that we begin to dream, and these dreams we may remember. For the most part we do not remember what happens during deep sleep. Likewise, we do not remember from life to death to life again. Eventually, we will enter the death state completely consciously, know who and what we are and why we are there and what we are doing, and then come back, equally consciously. As you become more advanced in the evolutionary process, this is what happens.

At the end of the evolutionary process, the initiates of the world, who are consciously undergoing the process of evolution, eventually develop continuity of consciousness. They come in because they know the Plan of evolution, they come in to carry out the Plan, and not only because of karmic necessity — although there will be some karmic necessity. Astral projection, of itself, will not bring about continuity of consciousness but may be a result of it, in which case the projection would be consciously initiated (with the purpose of service on the astral planes). Mental projection, as such, does not really exist. Conscious projection at that level is really soul activity and presupposes continuity of consciousness in the first place. Very much help is given on the astral planes in that way. Astral projection, without the help and guidance of a Master or experienced higher initiate, can be very dangerous.
